Depends on what you want from the military. I tell everybody who’s thinking about joining that they need to think long and hard about one what is important to them and two what do they want from the military? Because the military no matter what branch is going to get everything that they need from you by default. I was in the Navy, but ask yourself would you rather go on a cool camping trip with guns or would you rather go to a floating prison in the middle of the ocean?

As Ive said in so many comments, the craziest thing about your barracks aka dorms is that they basically kick you out and make you get your own place when you reach e4 or even e3 rank, which one exception Ive heard of being some rare small overseas location like Guam. As opposed to an army soldier or marine who has to stay in the barracks until they get to the rank of e6 with some exceptions in the army being e5. If more people knew this, that the air force and coast guard give you the shortest barracks times in the military if you don't get married, while the army and marines have the longest barracks times in addition to worse quality of life, then more people would take the blue branches more seriously than the green branches

@golfery5119
@golfery5119 5 ай бұрын
It's not the military as a whole but each branch has their own budgets, which goes along with their cultures, which goes along with their quality of life. The Air Force, being that they are more technology and all, would put some of their money into their people (which means things like paying them more if they have to be in substandard, as in Army/Marine, conditions), whereas the Army, being more about "training" is not going to improve living conditions for soldiers (especially unmarried lower enlisted, because they matter less).

Most truthful answer, if you need want discipline, physical fitness and leadership skills, Go to the Marines. If you want a lighter version of that on a more relaxed vibe, go Army. If you don’t mind being on a ship for long periods of times, go Navy. If you want all the military perks (Quality of life, pay, retirement) without the rough lifestyle of being an actual military member, go Air Force.

It's not vague. It's accurate as a mother fucker. I chose the Marines. I talked to the Navy, Army and Air Force recruiters in the span of 3 days because they came to me. It wasn't until I was leaving the recruiting center ready to sign for the Army that I walked by the Marine Corps office. I went in and talked to them. I knew nothing about them. I asked how they were different and they told me to ask the other branches. I didn't but I did ask what they do. They said "we kick the ass of anyone fucking with America's interest in the shittiest conditions with a dog shit budget". That's all it took and I signed a day later. The other 3 branches just tried to sell me a quality of life fantasy. I loved all 9 years.

I’m in the U.S. Coast Guard’s aviation side of jobs and It’s hands down the best decision I’ve made in my life. In Coast Guard aviation, enlisted aircrew fly and do Coast Guard missions such as search and rescue and law enforcement flights to name a few. We are also maintainers on the ground. We get a lot of other service branch members transfer to the Coast Guard but almost never one of us leaves to join another branch. It feels unique to do the stuff that we do compared to other individuals in other branches. Feel free to ask me any questions!
@golfery5119
@golfery5119 8 ай бұрын
Legit sounds so awesome. I've said elsewhere in the comments section that I get the impression the coast guard has no "peacetime" All the army and Marines do when not doing cleaning details and connex layouts on a typical day, is "training" by sitting in the woods without bathing for weeks, because theres pretty much nothing else to do since we obviously have no wars. So commanders have even more "training" (going to the field) to make more bullet points for their records. With coast guard, obviously there has to always be what you said with security, stopping drug smuggling, rescue, criminals trying to get into the country, etc. so it sounds like you' dont just "train" in the Coast Guard, but you actually get to DO shit and that shit you do is actually important instead of the Army and Marines acting like they're in the jungle and pretending to do stuff you wouldnt do in an actual modern day war anyway other than the jungle of Vietnam. And add this to the fact that apparently, the quality of life in Coast Guard is on par with, if not better than the Air Force and Space Force. Just like Air force and space force, y'all apparently also get out the barracks at e4 or maybe even e3, instead of e6 or e5 like in army.

@@golfery5119 You hit it spot on with the explanation! Most coasties get BAH as an E-2 and E-3 because their stations don’t have government housing or barracks even if they’re not married. Coast Guard aviation is the best out of all branches in my opinion because two out of the three enlisted aviation jobs we have, fix our aircraft that we fly in. We fly and qualify as Basic Aircrew (Fixed Wing and Rotary) and can get “flight mechanic” on rotary aircraft that let’s enlisted aviators go on SAR cases, deploy swimmers, conn pilots, do Law Enforcement missions, Environmental Safety and Security and other missions. We also can respectfully talk to higher ranking officers/ enlisted like a regular person without being restricted to do so. It’s an awesome community and the majority of us have immense pride with what we do to our country.

How was boot camp?
@eduardogracia4427
@eduardogracia4427 8 ай бұрын
@@wyattsznBoot camp is different for every single person. It all depends on how well you prepare yourself beforehand, how do you perform under pressure in various scenarios, and you have to learn anything they throw at you quick and accurate. You have to know how to talk to Company Commanders correctly depending on the situation, know required knowledge based on the week of training under pressure, and you have to be quick and accurate in everything you do. There is also jobs/ collaterals in each company like colors, drill team, yeoman etc that is split within your shipmates. It can be mentally strenuous for some people, but you HAVE to prepare yourself before you ship out. It is like the second hardest boot camp after the marine corps just because of the mental stress they compel onto the individual.

Pretty good video, very informative, I appreciate your time. I was in the Navy 5 years back in the nineties, and the Navy's kind of hard to nail down when you're doing a explanation in the video it really all depends on what your job is your MOS. You could be on the ground with a rifle you could be on the deck of a carrier with a plane you could be in a construction Battalion somewhere on an island you can be in the thick of it where it's going down I mean it just depends on what your job is it just depends on what your job is I was there when I was at Aviation hydraulic mechanic for F-18 and I say that the Naval Air Station until we deployed on to the air wing for 6 months attachments on the carrier and then as soon as it's over you come right back home I might have you attached to another branch, I know Navy guys that are attached to Marines I know marines that are attached to Navy I seen Navy medical attached who are attached to the Army. Its really a lot of possibilities. Whenever I got you detach to the air wing and I went on the carrier that was awesome, that was probably the most exciting thing I've ever done with my life it's such a fast pace and it's so structure it's like Controlled Chaos up there and you don't even think about the time it just moves when you're attached carrier battle group doing a deployment it's constant drills I mean you're constantly doing Mark long they're launching and recovering they're doing Battle Stations constantly ever ready as soon as one Carrier Group comes in another one already took its place. The Navy never stops 247365 carrier battle groups just doing circles out there just waiting for something to break loose so they can show up and put some presents in the water. Or you can join the Navy and work in the administrative department and stay in the office you know what I mean

You had those rare moments where you had to deal with the military B.S., silly things like room inspections (maybe once a month) and we never had mandatory PT. You were treated by Command & NCO with respect. @@AaronbTVprobably for the same things we've all heard a gazillion times now, not just from rumors about the air force but what air force people have said themselves: -Less pointless random formations, - Get treated more like an adult instead of a little kid, - More often than not, get to do your own pt instead of being out in the cold and rolling around on the ground, - Go to the field way less, if you go at all,. And yeah an airman may go away on a temporary duty assignment but best believe that more likely than not, they will be able to clean their ass, as well as have some mobile Internet access, unlike a soldier stuck ib the woods for weeks or months on end. - Get to do your job more than soldiers who get stuck laying out connexes in the motorpool. If you aren't a mechanic maintainer in the air force, you probably are not going to be at a flight line because it would be beyond insane to have a non mechanic doing maintenance on a plane whereas it's easier to have a non mechanic do maintenance on a lmtv truck in the Army - unmarried enlisted in the Continental United States are allowed to move out of the barracks (dorms) at the rank of e4 or even e3 as opposed to most unmarried enlisted army soldiers who can't move out the barracks until e6 or in some cases e5. -most people in air force don't get assigned ta50 infantry gear whereas just about everybody in army does, and you have to keep account of all that crap and it's a bitch to turn into cif when you PCs or ETS. There may be air force people who do get it, especially if they work with Army, but best believe they turn that shit right back in when they are done with it. They don't get so much bullshit from cif at the last minute the way so many soldiers do . Etc etc etc. Theres always a "on one hand, yeah this.....but on the other hand" On one hand, yeah air force is still the military, still has some nonsense and bullshit and toxicity.... But on the other hand, for the most part not near the same extent as Army, especially FORSCOM Army. It's the same things we've all heard countless times now Yeah most of us would have taken the air force (not mechanic maintainers or security forces) more seriously knowing what we know now .

@golfery5119 8 ай бұрын
It's been said so many times on top of so many times at this point that it should not be a surprise at all now for anyone joining Most civilians looking to join should know by now, unless you get a great job outside of FORSCOM, the Army is going to suck more. They should know by now that unless you get a job as a mechanic/maintainer, the Air force generally is going to suck less to a whole lot less than forscom Army. Other than a handful of circumstances like you want to be a warrant officer, I don't see any reason to go army over air force if you can go air force. People say "you get promoted faster in army" but that depends on so many things, a few that you have no control over such as how toxic your leadership is if they don't screw you out of promotion. Plus there are air force people who do get promoted not that slowly. I met an Air force e6 promotable who most likely is e7 now, who was in Air force for 10 years. Not every body who makes e7 makes e7 in the army in 7-10 years. So that "you promote faster in the army" is not always true and is no real pro about the army .

I served in the USAF and realized it was doing things in a smarter way than the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. Being in the USAF is not a demanding life style i must say Marine Corps personnel always seemed to be well qualified for their positions. One last thing. To all women : If you want to join the forces - take Air force or something medical. Yes you will suffer, but not like infantary. Infantary suffering , always in the field with up to 100 punds of gear - you dont want that. Do you need to be smart for Airforce ? A bit yes, but not too much. If you become anything related to support aircrafts ( besides digital obervation) everything will be fine. You will get schooling just write everything down and you yre good to go. If you want to become an officer in the airforce . then you have to be smart, really smart. We talk about air combat simulations , we talk about ground simulations. You need to learn everything about your countries weapons and aircrafts and what not. Just be smart and study even in basic when you have a long day.

Women have been a valuable part of the Army and Marines for generations now. But, at the risk of sounding sexist, I have no idea how a woman can sit in the woods for weeks or longer at a time (the field) without bathing herself. It's bad enough having to go weeks or months without cleaning your butt, and have your butthole caked in feces for all that time because you can't shower, but then women also have their feminine hygiene to deal with. However, there was one time where I went to the field with a combat support hospital for two weeks, and they did put field showers (something I've never heard of any of the other times I've gone to the field), partly because since it was a field HOSPITAL, they didn't want to be "hoah" as much as the more forscom types of units (who would say "fuck showers"), and also (while this wasn't outright said), they wanted the female soldiers to be able to clean themselves once in a while. I never actually saw the showers though,and wound up spending my whole two weeks without showering just like every other time I've been to the field (my longest field was three weeks without a shower). Yeah, I can see why you would recommend a woman joining the Air Force or Space Force or Coast Guard instead of the Army/Marines. That way a woman would not have to go to the field (if not never, then very rarely, and won't have to stay as long), where she wouldn't have to spend weeks or months without cleaning herself for all of that time.

First, consider the question you are asking. While it is often asked as "joining" the reality is you are "enlisting to serve". Key word: serve. Not be served but to serve the country. If your first thoughts are about the benefits you are joining, you are joining for the wrong reason and will likely have a miserable time. That's why people say "thank you for your SERVICE". It's not a job, a career, it's the military. War fighting organization whose entire existence is built around killing and defending from being killed. "Nobody promised you a rose garden". Also, I joined and graduated bootcamp 2 weeks before 9/11. Let that sink in. 18yrs old, joining the military to see the world, and not even 4 months in and we are at war. Two years down the road I'm running through Iraq with mortars and rockets coming at me. I didn't know what I was getting into and I love and simultaneously regret a lot of it.

I’m Navy and honestly active duty side of Navy is pretty cool if you like going underway and being at sea of course.. but I’ll rank the branches in terms of physicality and how much PT you have to do and how physically fit you have to be .. number one Marine Corps number two Army number three Navy, and number four Air Force. Now I will rank them, in terms of academic rigor and smarts number one Air Force number two Navy number three Marine Corps number four Army. In terms of programs and opportunities, I would say the navy and the army are almost tied. I would say the Army offers a little bit more opportunity. I know it’s pretty easy to rank up and advance in the Navy just from my experience, but I’ve heard from a lot of friends who are in the army that say it’s pretty easy to advance and in the army in terms of programs, schools, and things of that sort the Army and Navy are great , the Marine Corps offered some stuff but just not as much and it’s a little bit harder to make rank. Just depends on your unit your and MOS. In terms of the Air Force, they do have a lot of schools and programs but it’s generally a little bit more difficult to get into them just because of the competitive nature of the Air Force it’s also very difficult to make rank in the Air Force. Lastly, and final note, I could never forget my Coasties or fellow Coast Guard Man Coast Guard offer a really great career. The retention is actually pretty good and their Boot Camp and training is no joke. I’d say it’s pretty comparable to the Army and Navy sort of like a combo of both in terms of the physical aspect, schools and programs I really don’t know much about. I know a lot of them do train with us Navy sailors sometimes it is quite difficult to make rank in the Coast Guard. I’m actually thinking about switching over to the Coast Guard once my contract is over. Choosing a branch is really about what you wanna do. What are your goals if you wanna be HOORA all the time, shoot guns and jump out of airplanes join the Marine Corps Army if you want to have a very nice lifestyle and live a nice military life even though there’s no such thing join the Air Force or join the Navy but if you join the Navy, choose like a office type job , it really depends on your goals and aspirations Sidenote, if you do decide to only join, the reserves, do not go, Navy I repeat, do not go into the Navy reserves as someone who did join the Navy reserves it is a terrible experience just go active I know other branches are better in terms of the reserves, but the Navy is absolutely terrible.. active side, totally different for the navy I started out in the reserves and then immediately switched into active duty and have not regretted it since like I said, if you guys need any help, let me know

10:20 keep in mind that tuition assistance is liem 4500 a year. Also keep in mind that youll probably only be able to do college courses online and never on campus. Probably. Youre not expected in the military to have a consistent enough schedule in order to do more than two or one courses a semester in order to justify haveing more than like 4500 a year. In the Army ,especially in FORSCOM, youre stuck in the woods for weeks or longer without any electricity or internet access. Eveb moreso if you get sent to some duty station like fort bliss or fort drum that has a very high optemp and commanders have soldiers going to the field even more....and then going to the field even more during peacetime BECAUSE its peacetime and theres not jack shit to do, and they want to make their records look good with bullet points because made sure their soldiers had more "training" Similar nonsense in the Marines plus they have to also be oh Navy ship and Navy themselves because obviously they are on ship. That leave the Air Force, as long as you do not have a mechanica mainternace job that has long crazy hours like a cook. So keep that in mind when joining, what branch you joing, as well as what kind of job you pick which can influence hunan resource department to send you to what type of unit in your branch, in what part of your branch (FORSCOM in the army for example) 10:26 "get your bachelors degree before you get out". Thats assuming what i just said about the type of job at the type of unit you are in, which also goes with the branch you join and what "part" of the branch you join that you end up in. If you haven't figured out by now, just join the goddamned chair force part of the air force. So you would be the most likely to have a schedule that allows you to do this. Also so youte not dealing with batracks fuckery at wild hours (ive had sergeants show up to do surprise inspections at 2000 for example). It also depends on how long you stay in. @@BPD1586 but hey at least in the Continental United States, the longest air force stays in the barracks is up till the rank of e4 (I have heard that in some places out of the United States, like Guam, air force has to be e5 to move out the barracks aka dorms), right? Army would have to deal with the barracks craziness for quite longer, in some cases several years longer, since you have to be in some cases e5 to move out the barracks but in most cases e6 and some soldiers might take like 8 years or longer to get to the e6 rank, which means staying in the barracks for all that time. So much of the air force gets out the barracks like at three years. So at least Air force won't have to deal with barracks fuckery for near that long a time, right? But yeah, there was one time in a barracks I was in where we had to stand out in the cold for seemingly about an hour and a half staring at 1230 at night while they had a surprise drug inspection with the dogs. I have had more dog drug inspections but I am so glad that was the only one done that late at night. Opportunity-wise, I’d say Army. You get to choose your job, your duty station. Usually have bonuses. Different routes to be an officer. A warrant path. Fitness test is legit, makes you work on both strength and endurance. Overall, I just think you have more control over your career in the Army. Now, if you just want to coast or don’t want to make it a career, and don’t want to actually be fit and work on yourself, don’t choose the Army.

I was in the Air Force a long freaking time ago. You could say I went into the military "under duress". You see they were throwing this little party in a place called Vietnam. Plus we had this little thing called The Draft. When I saw what my latter number was, (52), I began looking at my options. So I enlisted in the Air Force thinking I would be less likely to be handed a helmet and a M-16. (Fate would catch up with me later like something out o "Final Destination", but that is a different story.) But let me correct one misconception about the Air Force. It ain't all about flying. For every bird we put in the air there is 20 or more that work behind the scene to make it happen. I was in communications, the only time I saw the inside of aircraft was as "cargo". The Air Force also has some pretty crappy assignments, like Thule, Greenland, Johnston Island, and lots of sucky locations in Turkey. (I got a sweet "remote" assignment in Japan. I worked on a mountaintop one day out of three and had an apartment on the local economy.) Oh, about the SEALS. They won't give you a new rating if you flunk (phase) out of the selection process, you will go back to doing whatever it was you were doing. If you were a cook, you get to go back to being a cook. My son was a SEABEE and had a buddy who phased out of BUD/s. His buddy was right back at the same unit swinging a hammer building latrines for the Marines in Iraq.
