Certainly one of the ultimate songs of The Beatles. I never heard RM11 until I heard the box set. Oh my, was I blown away- love the tape loops on this version. Let’s put it this way... my neighbors also got to experience it, once I discovered how amazing it is. Thanks for putting specific focus on this recording game changer.

1-2-3-4, one two three four! Bob can cue his cameo Alfred Hitchcock walk-on into the room on time with the vid start. He timed his entrance that way last week for Beatles Love Songs. Tomorrow Never Knows, but Bob often does. 11:15 The copy I've had since '79 is that one, UK Stereo mid-70s pressing, not from any discerning choice but that's what was standard in the shop when I was 20, and that's all I knew until the SD box set. Having all 5 SD box sets now, I still haven't heard any Giles remixes, always a redundant feature to me. If I could make my ten cents count for a dollar I'd have whoever passes for Klein at Apple these days sack Giles and divert the expense to an extra outtakes disc. 7:45 "Right on the edge of chaos." Great way of putting the ideal mix. (Keep finding these phrases and you could cut up a full song lyric by pure happenstance from these vids: "Jumps right out of the groove/ Right on the edge of chaos.") The lyrics too are poised on the edge of an abyss with JL urging one more step out of yr mind. That's what the tape loops are for: scrambling the alphabet and the scales that box in our thinking, limit our worldview. Chaos is the undoing of all that, in trust that if you let go and take one more step there's a greater cosmic understanding in the void. Well, okay, but you go first while I feed the cat.

My favourite Beatles track. I would love to have heard it for the first time in 66 and think “WTF was that?” as nothing else in pop sounded like it. A game changer.

My favorite is the original UK Mono. You get more backward solos and different tape loops. Finally completed my Mono collection last year when i got the US MMT.

In my case, the original 66 mono has a Wilder noises behind the guitar solo, i LOVE that

All of them, every single one. For it is not the sound but the message, the meaning of within, that makes this the best song ever made. And many many many have redone this track in their own way, and I like them all but a very few, Tangerine Dream did a version, but the vocals are mostly gone or muted beyond recognition sadly. Keep finding more, and thanks for you review of the two by two, stereo and mono versions. Also which you favor. Guess I would pick the same as you the original stereo version perhaps. TY

Original stereo is top for me too, haven't spent enough time yet with RM11 version. I am still getting used to the remix, it does really bring out that strange (flat?) note John sings at the very end which I hadn't noticed before!

One of the Beatles masterpieces. Sounds as fresh today as it did then. I prefer the original mono mixes, especially the RM11, and then the stereo mix from 66. Not a big fan of the remixes. Great discussion, Brian.

Is there a difference in the us revolver tomorrow never knows and the British stereo mix
@BrianBringelson

The US Revolver has the same stereo and mono mixes as the standard UK pressings. (obviously the RM11 from the early UK mono pressings isn't on the US mono pressings)

Mono is the purist's choice but stereo does make that song sound some immersive and mind blowing. I think one should own both. If a person walks into a record store and wants to buy Revolver (single disc one) there only choice will most likely be the Giles Martin remix. I believe the 2012 digital remaster version will get phased out like Pepper, The White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be.

Yes they are. RM11 is on The Sessions LP and the standard mono mix is on the excellent Mono LP.

Actually, it was JOHN LENNON that had the original mono version pulled because he didn't like the vocals.
