Gotta be honest, I wish I had the guts to try something like this! I think this may very well be the ticket my 545 and 562XP needs. Makes a lot of sense. I do not want to try a mod and then find such a pricey muffler to replace it! Thanks for making this video sir
@jimssawsnstuff8903 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my video. If you want to try it, buy a muffler for it from Amazon and keep the original muffler stock. You’ll likely find them for $25-$30. That way you’ll still have the expensive one if you ever want to go back…😉👍

I did a video for you of the one I bought off Amazon, probably $20 for you. Here’s the link. I still have it sitting in the shop, thought I was going to be doing few more and mailing them off, but haven’t lately. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3SoqXtsmNapgKssi=PZBCJq78vdD4enc1

@jimssawsnstuff8903 i hear you, and no sir, thank you for this video, it gave me a clear understanding of what's inside of the muffler and what I'd need to do to get it out, I posted photos on my page on a community post it's the only thing on there if you want to check it out and see how I did mine. I cut a square in the back, hollowed it out and then welded it back on. worked out nicely.

Love the idea and thats probably the best for some one with a welder and such but would be pretty difficult for someone with no welder nor welding experience but none the less its a good muffler mod you can put a screen on mine but i dont cut anywhere that it matters

Well, I figure if they can weld good enough to mount a pipe/tube on one, they can probably get it done, or take it to somebody. 😉👍

Cool, I just picked up a 565 today, I'll be doing this mod for sure. I was wondering what you had to do to a 5XX after doing any mods, answered that question too!
@jimssawsnstuff89039 ай бұрын
Cool, I’ve got a 565 in the shop right now. Doing a custom muffler on it as the owner wants to keep his OEM muffler stock, but wants to run something that lets the heat out and lets the saw perform. I’ll do a vid on it once I get it finished. Saw needed a piston and rings.
@bushleague34729 ай бұрын
@@jimssawsnstuff8903 Cool, I'm curious to see what you use. Surprized to hear about the rings/piston, I got mine over the other models cause I've heard of a lot less problems with 5's than the XP's, and cause I've gotten such reliable service out of my 365 Xt. Might finally do the 72 mod on that one now.
@jimssawsnstuff89039 ай бұрын
@bushleague3472 someone told you the 5 series were reliable? 🫣🤔 😂🤣😂 There were so many issues with them, they are getting the auto-tune figured out, but the best Husky iohp was the 372XP, not the xt. The XP was non-strato intake/piston and a real workhorse. Considerably lighter than the XT. I believe I made a vid of the 565 teardown…565 and 572 are very similar except for the transfer caps and ignition mapping, plus the airfilter.
@bushleague34729 ай бұрын
@@jimssawsnstuff8903 I remember the AT problems quite well, what I meant is that the detuned versions (numbers ending in "5") seemed better, the 562 was famously problematic while I never heard anyone complain about the 555 etc. So to me, for a little extra weight, the 565 seemed like a better long term plan than the 562. You can correct me if I'm wrong on that. And yes, the XT is lazyer that my brother's 372xp, but being able to fill a long box on one tank of fuel is pretty handy too.
@jimssawsnstuff89039 ай бұрын
@@bushleague3472 ah, that makes sense now. For the 565 vs 572 I believe it’s better as the 565 (70cc) doesn’t run stuffers around the crankshaft, so the bearings are way more exposed to the oil when it comes thru the crankcase, so that alone is a huge benefit. I have worked on a few of the 555’s vs 562’s and the 555 (60cc) seem to be nearly as chronic for bearings and seals as the 562’s, but there is a lot to do with oil, mix ratios, dull vs sharp chains (heat) and chain tension as well as how hard they were works and hours etc.

Hi Jim! Great idea, I have 560xp (european market version of 562) and I'm going to make a muffer mod the same way as you did, please advise on few details like muffer wall thickness, welding method (tig, electrode, silver soldering), what have you used for back plate after removal of original part? Thank you in advance!
@jimssawsnstuff8903 Жыл бұрын
I was using a mig / wire feed welder. But it depends on what you have access to and skill level. Once you cut the back off, then you can gut the remainder of the baffle infront of the exit hole and remove material from around the exit port of the muffler from the inside with a die grinder or rotary tool. You can open that hole up significantly. Ensure you don’t remove too much, or your spark arrestor screen won’t fit properly. De-burr everything with an abrasive bit and also smooth out your cut line where you’ll be welding the back on, so you get a good fit. Cut and shape the metal for the new back…I’m not too fussy what I use here, a bit heavier than the stock muffler is good as it handles the heat from the welder better that the stock gauge…make sure you don’t over heat and warp it too badly. You may find it best to do a series of tack welds, say the corners first, then fill a bit in each direction and move along, switch to the next tack etc. Clean it up when your done, blow it out. You can pressure test or test with water to check for leaks and touch up where you need to…repeat. Blow it out good, hit it with a heat gun, or set it in the heater so it dries out good if you used water…then hit it inside and out with a good high temperature spray paint…I use Krylon. Hope that helps.
