Kinda unrelated but I like how the addition of the Preserve indirectly buffs weak natural wonders by making their tiles actually worth working

Honestly the preserve was such an interesting addition because of the ways it influences all your other planning decisions. Just wish it gave some kind of base yeild without the Grove because its hard to justify a lot of production for very slow returns

ALSO I MISSPOKE DEAD SEA IS ONLY ON THE TILES OF THE WONDER NOT AROUND IT~ These rankings I feel are pretty LOOSE when it comes to comparing them to my previous tier lists - wonders spawn in random places and can make your tiles amazing or just OK depending on the spawn. With that there's a lot of arguments on bringing some Wonders up/down the list which is absolutely fair and probably true LMAO. Anyways I hope you enjoy the video love u all~

A huge factor imo is holy site adjacency. The one tile wonders are way weaker than the 2-3 tile boys. The yields on Chocolate hills are meh, buy you can place some nice holy sites and preserves around it.

This. Eye of the Sahara is far better than Delicate Arch in a Desert Folklore/Work Ethic game. Obviously specific examples isn't enough to justify saying it is better but I would say the single tile desert wonders and Eye of the Sahara are probably on par with each other.

Dude, Sahara el Beyda with desert folklore = 3-4 holy-sites with +10 adjacency 😑 potentially +20 production with work ethics and theology, it can get crazier with hermetic order, since ley line appear in desert much more often. Same for eye of Sahara. Same reasoning for Ubsunur hollow with dance of aurora. Otherwise, fair classification 👌👍

I wouldn't underestimate Crater Lake if found early. It can give you a Pantheon in 5 turns. If you start with it you actually have a chance at Religious Settlements, or one that goes into a potential build like Holy Site Adjacency or Reeds and Marches. Also, the FoY is +4 Science and Faith, which means that one pop has the yield equivalent of 3 Specialists

Yup I had a crater lake game as teddy (bull moose) - that was the only time I ever got religious settlements on deity - completely worth no growth for those first turns. What’s also good is (unless this was changed) - it counts as a land tile, like an oasis- which means it can be buffed by preserves. The tiles around it are usually breathtaking too so more often than not it can become really good in the mid game once you put done investment into it.

29:30 I'm pretty sure Pamukkale's standard ajacency for holy sites stack with the inherent bonus of natural wonders, so +3 per tile.
@MoireFly
@MoireFly 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think Pamukkale is one of the best wonders in the game actually. Unlike most other wonders, it's almost always useful, and it stays useful the entire game. The fact that you get two +6 holy sites even with zero other adjacencies alone is pretty sick, but it's also just a great place to dump all kinds of districts that can otherwise be hard to collect adjacencies for. And the amenity boost isn't huge, it but it can still affect 2-3 cities (it's permanent, even if the city trades away the tile!) - and an amenity is ~3% extra yields. Basically: pamukkale just gives a bunch of pretty decent things, it's rarely hugely in the way, and it gives all those benefits without requiring _any_ population to work those tiles. It's mostly free. And sometimes, it's exceptional - e.g. if it spawns in the desert, and you manage to snag a religion... I've had multiple +10 and higher holy sites around it early game (hermetic order helping in the desert, too), with work ethic and the holy-site adjacency bonus doubler making pop 1-4 cities with +20 to +26 faith and production. You do need to somehow chop out the holy site, but it's weird to see a starved city rocket to production like that pretty much immediately ;-).

I used to not like Zhangye Danxia as much until I realized it counted as a mountain ON TOP of being a natural wonder so it gave +3 adjacency to holy sites per tile

Same with Everest (duh). Had a Khmer game with Everest in my third ring of my capital. Perfect spot to share between cities. Plus two rivers had their headwaters on either side. It felt like I was cheating. Most broken early empire core I've ever experienced. Three cities with Holy sites at ~18, ~16, and ~12 adjacency iirc. Deity, true to form, left me work ethic. +16 faith, food, and production from the ancient age in your capital from the Holy site was absolutely bonkers. City #2 was even more ridiculous. My spread exploded. I *really* wish I had kept that game seed.
@TugaThings
@TugaThings 2 жыл бұрын
I still think Mount Roraima is S because of the cumulative yields: there's always one tile next to 3 Mount Roraima tiles that has 3 science and 3 faith and you can work which is amazing (and it usually has a resource on it) and I think it is the only wonder that affects a single tile three times. Mount Roraima gives a total of 16 faith and science across 11 tiles! It is easy S tier in my opinion
@Monkonmunky

The Icelandic natural wonder, Eyjafjallajokull is by far the best wonder in the game. Turn your game up to lv 4 disaster intensity, find a city near it, preferably your capital if you can and watch it explode. By turn 100 in a game I played the AI who had its capital there was insane. The tiles had no numbers because it had erupted so many times. I think if I recall correctly its surrounding tiles were up to 15+ food AND production with 3-5 culture or 3-5 science as well as gold. It's an amazing natural wonder. To put that in anywhere other than top tier only shows ignorance of the wonder. No natural wonder in this game can compete with it imo.

Every game I always want to spawn next to Zanghye, even if i'm not going for a domination game, being able to have Great Generals you otherwise wouldn't have at the start to help fight off barbs is amazing. Sun Tzu's Art of War, the one that allows you to convert barbarians. What's not to love about this mountain wonder? It also gives adjacency bonus to any district that gets a bonus from mountains (bonus if you somehow can secure Machu Picchu). Also, the Great Merchant points generally gives you free trade routes to build your cities faster (or get you more gold to buy your districts' buildings faster). I think D tier is a bit underwhelming. I'd argue maybe a B- to a C rating, but A+ for my playstyle.
@Luke-tt3dt
@Luke-tt3dt Жыл бұрын
This is a pretty niche scenario but I once got an absolutely disgusting holy site adjacency bonus by stacking desert folklore on top of Sahara El Beyda - because the wonder tiles themselves are also considered desert tiles, each one counted as +3 adjacency and I was able to build two holy sites next to it. In addition to having other desert tiles nearby, playing as Australia (+3 for breathtaking appeal), and surrounding the holy sites with other districts, I was able to get +14 adjacency bonus on both holy sites. Add Work Ethic on top of that, the scripture policy card, and putting Hildegard of Bingen (who I faith-purchased with the absurd amount of faith I was generating) into one of the holy sites I was able to get two holy sites putting out 28 faith, 28 production, and one of them putting out an additional 28 science on top of that. Ever since then, Sahara El Beyda has gone up hugely in my esteem; you have to work to make it work for you, but when it does, oh lord does it work well.

Personally I would bump Giant's Causeway and Zhangye Danxia up a bit. Granted I'm a bit biased because I always gravitate towards warring at some point in my games, but Zhangye in particular I just feel has no downsides. If you get it early on you're going to passively get Great Generals and Merchants without having to do anything or even work the tiles. Even if you aren't looking to conquer having a GG boost on defense is useful, and it prevents warring neighbors from potentially getting them, and at worst Merchants will likely get you some free gold. Not only that but you can get amazing holy site adjacency without having to destroy any nice tiles. For those reasons I would place it in B tier. Otherwise a very fair list. I only got into Civ quite recently but I'm really enjoying your videos!
@Lankpants
@Lankpants 2 жыл бұрын
There's one godtier thing about Crater Lake, if you spawn right next to it you can work the tile for 5 turns and take Religious Settlements, which is really strong. It scales like shit though. Also, on Pamukkale, it gives an addition standard adjacency to holy sites, in addition to the major adjacency for being a wonder. This means that a holy site next to both tiles is at +6. I generally think it's pretty good. There's always some districts that can be placed near it and get value. Really nice if you can have a theatre square next to the two tiles and an entertainment district next to one and the theatre square.

One thing to note about Lysefjord is that the free promotion trigger resets whenever you upgrade the promoted naval unit. So your old quadrireme can get both anti-district promotions for free when it promotes to frigate and basically gets a free extra range when it is fully upgraded to missile cruiser. Admittedly you don't notice the later free promotions as much and the yields of the wonder still aren't good, but in the mid-game your navy is WAY better thanks to it. I had one spawn relatively close to me as the Dutch. Zeven provinciën with free double anti-district promotions were amazing at whittling down coastal cities.

32:30, the Nile, I stand by that. The Nile river could be a very unique wonder that literally takes the place of a river on a desert that gives 3 food to all of the desert floodplains tiles. Would be affected by stuff like lady of the reeds and marshes and etemananli but like any other natural wonder can’t have farms put on it

Someone already mentioned preserves and how they buff week natural wonders, to add to that great barrier reef and ha long bay also are also buffed by preserves, which adding yields from harbours make them amazing tiles. I've never played Civ VI without the Terra Mirabilis mod and was unaware how much it changed from the base game. The ownership effects are really nice, arguably overpowered, and change the way you play. Although I do enjoy pursuing those Deity speedruns myself, it's also fun to change strategy on the fly based on what natural wonders are around you, if any. Capital near Cerro de Potosi (gold and production from adjacent plots, more gold from trade routes), maybe I'll rush that commercial hub and built Great Zimbabwe. Bioluminescent Bay on the other side of the map? Maybe I'll send a settler that takes 15 turns to get there but receive +1 science to all my fishing boats. Highly recommend this mod to anyone reading the comments.

Even if you spawn next to these 'wonders', the +1 to +3 yields that most of them provide aren't outstanding, especially if they don't provide food. I understand that the yields can't be amazing, lest you get too easy an early game. As such, I think all wonders should provide a tertiary bonus to compensate for that. Take the Cliffs of Dover, for example. Give them something like +3 food and +2 culture, which is a respectable yield, but also have it provide +10 combat strength to adjacent tiles, or something to that effect. Have the Eye of the Sahara provide 2+ production and 2+ science but double the normal district adjacency bonuses to any city that owns a tile of the wonder... And so on.

Come on Boes, Eye of the Sahara is a great wonder to Preserve - 2 food, 2 production, 2 faith, 2 culture, 1 science is really solid if you can get it working with a Desert civ. For Nubia in particular who wants districts on her desert, it’s way up in S

kiliminjaro is A for me. The food boost is absurd for growing and especially early game, the faster youre growing, the faster youre doing everything. I agree with tsingy in B but I do want to mention that it will, rarely, spawn with grassland tiles around it. In those rare cases, even a non-tundra civ can take some use out of it in their tundra-border city. Side note: it is definitley a tier above ubsunr. Youre not bias, yosemite is S tier and and the wonder's art as well as the yields around it are so pretty. You can argue it's bottom of the S tier or very top of the A tier. Your list is almost exactly what my selection of wonders in games is. S/A/ surrounding tile yield B's. Ik-il was actually overlooked so i'll have to throw it into the selection pool and give it a shot. Good list!

Didn't check all comments, but I didn't see anyone mentioning how natural wonders that span multiple tiles and give adjacent tiles extra yields will have some tiles with double extra yields (or triple, like Mount Roraima). So, the Galapagos islands (two tile wonder) have two tiles with double extra yields (+4 science). The Eyjafjallajökull (won't even try to spell that one) wonder will have two tiles with +4 food and +2 culture. Now, about the Lysefjord, this one might just be S tier (if it still works). A free promotion to any naval unit, it should be limited to one per unit, but I remember that upgrading those units would "reset" them. Thus you can get 6 promotion fleets (galley -> caravel -> ironclad = 3 promotions, and make a fleet from two with different promotions). Not sure if the fleet unit counts as a "new" unit, thus able to get another promotion.

Zhangye is definitely underestimated. It guarantees one free great general and one great merchant without any extra work. Basically, it’s worth of two policy cards. I'd have Lysefjord higher now it has been buffed and gives culture to adjacent tiles, was definitely F before when it only gave a promotion - way too situational. Also think Roraima, Milford sound, and Yosemite are S tier but other than that nothing triggers me. Sure that will make you sleep better

A couple of these I spawned on back to back in my first two games. I didn't really know what I was doing but I had a bit of hills by some culture wonders they were a bit broken. I had political philosophy really quick, and also my pantheon super early because I got the faith card super quick. I think they're high B tier for sure as long as it's adjacency.

I’m ok with most of it, but disagree with the last one. I played with it about twice and gives you a good edge . Having the first general and merchant , or even the second is just great. Imagine a mount Sinaï giving you the same for great prophet and great writers for instance. 😃

Looking for some help. Did I hear there is a mod that allows the ai to build improvements? The ai never builds feitorias, for example, due to a bug. Or was this a global bug fix? Cheers.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Dead Sea yields only apply to the Dead Sea itself? It doesn't say adjacent tiles in the description, and I don't recall seeing it ever do that, though I could be mistaken.

Kind of surprised you rated cliffs of Dover so low when you complained several times that you just can’t work the tiles of natural wonder and would prefer to work others. I mean gobustan and chocolate hills can’t be improved either. Meanwhile cliffs of Dover has 2 food, which means you can grow at a reasonable rate while working it. I mean it’s 3 monuments early game. You only need 3 or 4 pop and a couple mines and your city is totally growing with nice yields. Doesn’t make a lot of sense. Oh and on those others you listed above cliffs you need a preserve to do anything w them.

Can you do another tier list adding all the wonders from BBS? =) I would love to argue over some of your placements, but I can see the justification for most of them. The one that really, really bothers me is you placing Zhangye Danxia in D tier... Even if you do not have Monopolies and Coorporations enabled (I play it all the time just like Secret Societies or Barbarian Clans - they all just feel like they belong to the base game) you still get AT LEAST 1 Great General and 2 Great Merchants for free. Consider the +4 Holy Site or at least the +2 Campus. To say that this wonder is only really good for dom games is not necessarily true. Sure, it's harder to make it work than any of the S tier or A tier wonders. But I would still give it a solid B minus tier. How can you put this wonder next to Cliffs of Dover, Pamukkale and Sahara el Beida and not feel like something is wrong? :D

Nice pronunciation of Zhangye Danxia. Of course the tones are not there, but that's too much to ask if you haven't started learning the language. The rhythm is something that can be easily improved. The rule of thumb is for a noun, each syllable should spend you roughly the same amount of time to pronounce in normal occasions. Here we have 4 syllables: Zhang-ye-Dan-xia. You pronounced the 2nd one a bit too fast, which seems normal if it were an English word. But overall, good job, especially good when pronouncing the tricky "x".
@luisgutierrez8047
@luisgutierrez8047 2 жыл бұрын
Zanghye danxia need to be bumped up a tier. The name of the game is to secure ALL the great merchants. This wonder gives you A LOT of leeway in that regard. That way you can get cheaper harbors which are better than CHs. The only thing CHs have going for them over harbors is their great merchants. Securing all the classical and medieval great merchant as well as the great admiral that gives trader means +4 extra traderoutes. Free great general is also really nice in peaceful game for when someone tries to get fresh with your suzreins....

I'm 8 months late so doubt this gets seen, but wouldn't the extra adjacency bonuses bump up the 4 tile wonders? Recently I had a game with the Ubsunur Hollow. I picked Dance of the Aurora and work ethic, built cities so that they were at the edges of the wonder, then had multiple insanely high yield Holy Sites powering those cities. I assume this would be even stronger with the desert wonders and desert folklore since you could then build Petra in one of those cities.

Great Breakdown. Here's my thoughts: -You would have gotten a like if you played the Eric Johnson song in the background; and a sub if you wore the jacket: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3_HaHiQaNBmb9U -I absolutely hate Giant's Causeway because they made it so non-transparent: which of my friggin' units already have the promotion and which need to make the Causeway pilgrimage? I eventually found that you can find out by selecting the unit and hovering a potential enemy unit, so now it's just an annoyance of major time consumption. And you have to make a Causeway pilgrimage after every upgrade - I'd rather just have a couple extra GPT. -Your evaluations to the most part overlooked national park-ability. Mt. Roraima is great as you can use the three tile triangle part of it plus the other unimproved tile has a double-dose of the bonus. The E-Yi-E-Yi-YO wonder (sorry, that's what I call it, the Iceland volcano) has one across it's two tiles plus the tiles above and below which would have multiple eruption bonuses and would constantly clear out any improvements anyway. Paititi and Yosemite are also good for them. -I wish the video included some of the harder to answer questions about tile-self wonders (as opposed to tile adjacent wonders) being buffed by buildings and such. I know Great Barrier Reef tiles get buffed by lighthouse, seaport, and Auckland suze, and I'm pretty sure Lake Reytna tiles don't. Not entirely sure about Dead Sea or Crater Lake. And what about Huey Teocalli? Also, it's pretty well established that Eye of the Sahara gets buffed by Petra, not 100% sure about Ubsunur Hollow with Basil. Does Etemanaki affect any of them? -I also would have pointed out that the tile-adjacent wonders do apply the the city center's yield if settled adjacent to it - I misplaced cities for almost a year before I figured that out. I agree with most of your evaluations and am not going to nit-pick the slight disagreements I have about ranking, such as I'd put Chocolate Hills and Pantanal lower. The one that I am going to make a stand for, though, is Pamukkale. Kind of suffering from "current game bias" but in my current Elizabeth/Islands/Societies->Minerva game, I have a city/harbor/CH triangle with a river between the city and CH for a +5 CH and +3 harbor (+4 because there's a fish.) The CH is adjacent to 2 Pamukkale tiles upgrading it from +5 to +9. Reyna is in that city to double the adjacencies and Economic union card locked in to add another multiplier. The shipyard is adding production (though this isn't directly impacted by the wonder) and the Guilded Vault is adding tons of Culture, The tile south between the city center and CH has a HS adjacent to two (aforementioned) districts, one Pamukkale tile, and two planted woods/mills for +4 adjacency. Bought the other tile adjacent to two Pamukkale tiles to plant a +4 campus (actually +6 because there's a reef there) which is the milestone to hit for one half of the rationalism bonus, and for Victoria she has an extra +4 to the Lab that rationalism is doubling. And there's an entertainment district adjacent to a more "dead" part of Pamukkale to get ALL of these things an extra 20% from ecstatic (actually 28% because of Khaldun.) Here's the key - while this is one specific map, I've looked back at some previous saves and have found Pamukkale to be two tiles away from a river mouth not infrequently, which is the only real requirement for the basic city/CH/HB->HS/campus/entertainment setup, I just glossed over it because I didn't take the time to plan it out. When it is 2 tiles away from a river mouth, it's A+ tier or low S tier. Without, it's B- at worst.

I was finding the tiers really random until I realized you're basically only rating these on being adjacent to your capital. Something like Cliffs of Dover can be a great wonder to be now a city, but if you're trying to build tall on one city, it's taking up a lot of space. Still seems like a really arbitrary way to do a tier list.

I still think the game's selection of "natural wonders" was weird for missing some of the most famous/incredible natural wonders: The Grand Canyon, Victoria Falls, Niagara Falls, Iguazu Falls, Mount Fuji, Wulingyuan, the Serengeti all feel more iconic than some of the odd choices like Ubsunur Hollow (1/2 of the top page of google image results about it are actually directly from the game).

I feel like your ability to put excellent Holy Sites next to a Natural Wonder is important, and that factor doesn't appear to have affected your rankings. Paititi and Zhangye Danxia allow for multiple +4 Holy Sites while Delicate Arch allows maybe two +2 Holy Sites. I'd much rather either of the former in my borders then the latter.

@@samuelhakansson6680 I probably could have chosen better examples to better illustrate the point. Replace Paititi with the Patanal. 4 +4 Holy site spots is one of the draws to the Patanal wonder IMO
