They don’t listen I play archeage and even with the publisher change , they don’t listen trust me the community that plays archage has voiced their opinion and concerns multiple time, the publishers being Korean based don’t listen to a word the west has to say. The CMs don’t know anything, and still when they pass on the message the company doesn’t listen. Lots of CMs quit in the first 2 months kakao took over. Shit publishers that just don’t care.

@@sir_irk That's what Archeage has always been. They use it to make some quick cash and then let the game die and then repeat. Saddest part is Archeage is genuinely the best MMO i've ever played. It's always been managed extremely poorly but they'd make so much more money if they actually cared and tried to make the game survive in the long run.

To me the problem is obvious. Investors and CEOs don't play videogames, lol. So we end up with games that no one really wants to play, with investors having no clue why their "perfect" plan to earn massive profits isn't working.

As a professional game developer and a knowledgeable blockchain engineer, I'm put off by the way I'm seeing 99% of people using NFTs. They're probably the most widely misunderstood and abused blockchain technology around. They have legitimate uses and potential uses, but almost no one is exploring those at all ... everyone is trying to ride the collectible or over-monetization hype waves. And a lot of them pick shitcoins as their basis, which doesn't even make sense. There's like 7 cryptos in the entire world, out of hundreds of thousands, which I think actually have a shot at surviving and doing well. It's kind of sad, because it's slowing down progress with the viable and potentially legitimate blockchain technologies. It's all very unfortunate. My strategy is to ignore those guys, don't buy anything they're selling and eventually they will go away and their crap will cease to exist ...
@benjaminmeusburger4254
@benjaminmeusburger4254 2 жыл бұрын
@@GameDevNerd Sorry but I don't understand your comment. All the crypto usage is essentially to create a write-only database. In what circumstances is that useful - except to prevent manipulating entries? Just remove the 'update' and 'delete' options from a database + use auto-icrement unique IDs as token and you have the same thing.
@GameDevNerd
@GameDevNerd 2 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminmeusburger4254 well, your assumptions or ideas here are technically incorrect. Blockchains are not creating a "write-only database" at all. It's technically not a database at all, it's a very different thing called a distributed ledger, and it's also not write-only, it's both read & write. Removing options from some database software doesn't solve the problem, offers no protection against Byzantine fault or malicious manipulation. As a database is a centralized storage system, there's a single point of failure. The entire thing can be brought down in one fell swoop, not to mention the database is highly susceptible to manipulation by the person or group that holds and controls it. When you consume information from a database, you have to put your full trust in the person or group serving it to you. Blockchains and distributed ledger systems, which work in tandem with decentralized p2p node-based networks, do not have those same flaws. They have some flaws, don't get me wrong, such as being significantly slower. But the hash algorithms we're using such as the SHA variants provide proof of the integrity of the data you're consuming. It's mathematically impossible to retroactively change any of the data in a block without breaking the entire chain, as changing a single bit of one byte will radically change the hash of that block then the next block (all the way to the end) so that clients are instantly able to recognize your data is corrupted. Even the length of the chain serves as proof of integrity of the data, because of the immense resources that would be required produce a fake chain of a similar length to the real one (thus it's basically impossible). The implications of these features are huge ... we never really had a "trustless" system of this nature before, and never had a viable, open-source solution to the Byzantine General's Problem. This made it possible, for the first time ever, to _have_ a cryptocurrency, which economists and computer/data scientists had been trying to figure out for decades. It finally made it possible to have a system to transfer value that you could count on _not_ being corrupted or hacked/cheated, and you didn't have to trust anyone involved, only cryptographic science. And this has big implications outside of finance. If we can rely on this technology to verify the integrity of financial transactions and value, we can also use the same principles to verify the integrity of _any_ type of record or data. We can even use it for executable code, and we do. Quite a few major companies have made investments into their own internal blockchains which are for non-financial purposes. So, the fact is, there's a nearly endless number of ways to use the technology, and we're far from discovering all of them. Just like we were very far away from discovering all of the potential uses for the internet in 1995, and we still are in 2022.

When Archeage was at rock bottom, zero players on Steam, before the briefly failed reboot, it was the first MMO I ever played. Saw it was free, so I hopped in. I made a character from every starter region, quested and explored. Absolutely loved the elven area and how you could raise a little elk into a mount. But the game was dead, like a ship riddled with holes, and I only really put about 60 hours into it before quitting because everything was dead and broken. Even after experiencing Archeage in one of its worst states I was able to catch a glimpse of how the game could’ve been. Seeing “Archeworld” just feels like someone is digging up a grave and defiling a long dead corpse.

i had an actual guild, and we saved up for the castle patch I was honestly stoked cause this was gonna be the first time I did something with a guild that would affect the world. After massive pvp and lag we click on the stone to start the foundation only to have the game crash, no one could get back in. And the thing that annoyed me is that they didn't reserve the patch and start over so months of work was lost. Needless to say the game died even more and I went back to wow

Oh boy the game at launch was a blast, even in the unchained version. This game was one of the best world pvp mmos because you were encouraged to do so. Im not gonna explain every detail but transporting goods while defending it from enemy faction and your own faction was so exciting. You had to plan ahead and be in touch with your guild or be a sneaky ninja and do it at ungodly hours to not get caught. I loved collecting everything in this game like the different mounts and vehicles like the warship or the fishing boat, which speaking of it, they made fishing exciting for once because those fishes became goods and like every good in this game, it could be stolen. So it had a lot of player interaction and drama. The community and the game was alive. Too bad the grindfest and the 29h dailies to gear up made most players burn out. Oh well , at least i have my sweet memories of it.

I loved Archeage. I thought the way you combine 3 classes into one final one was great, and the way you had the carts to transfer goods, and the open PvP element of it really encouraged networking. I enjoyed seeing what effects synergized with each other - like putting an enemy in a Bubble created by witchcraft, and then hitting it with a Fire spell from Sorcerer to make it rise into the sky. Then they'd fall and take fall damage they couldn't just ignore the damage of. Or rooting something, and then hitting it with the knockback attack from Witchcraft causing it to deal extra damage by tearing them out of the root status effect. It was so interesting and novel. And the housing system was really cool! Unfortunately it was incredibly pay to win in that regard. But the idea of it was awesome all the same. I liked it very much. What I played was incredibly fun. I just couldn't afford to keep up with it, because at the time I was in University and really didn't have the money to spare, nor the time to commit to it like I wanted. Still. I'm thankful that when I look back at that game, what time I did have with it was positive.

Yep Archeage had so much good going for it, sadly the gearing system which made gearing up only tolerable for small amount of people and the p2w ontop of it just completely kill the playerbase after a month or 2 when everyone hit the ''gear wall'' or so to speak. Then ofcourse the 4.0 and 4.5+ changes which just ruined the game altogether. A lot of people will blame the p2w for Archeage demise but in reality it's a lot deeper than that, it's more so the systems in the game that worked well with p2w rather than p2w itself.

The game is running on current patch, but they've stripped 2 of the 6 races, the 4 post-launch skilltrees, taken away professions, illegal tree farming/fighting is no more, all major one-a-night pvpve world bosses, freedich and the northern continent which was about 90% of the endgame. They have added in a reskinned crimson rift to every conflict zone which I guess is supposed to be the new endgame to PvPvE over, but Its yet to be seen how fun that will end up being once one guild starts to zerg and dominate the server.

that does not make sense from a programmer point of view You need multiple games AND people actually playing both games AND all assets of those swapable items would need to be dublicated Even if this all applies - you don't need blockchain for that; just a simple unique-id as it was used in e.g. Diablo 3 where every item has unique stats and is generated when dropped - linked to the player with the inventory

the thing that had me trying it was the class system - you could just build your own class out of 3 subclasses, instead of being locked to a single type. for example a mage that has occultism, sorcery & songcraft would be called "Requiem", and there was a ton of combinations that could make your character unique. (obviously some combinations are worse than others but for the sake of customization, it looked cool)

Ok I didn't play either the Alpha or Beta but it was one of my favorite games before it got destroyed by monetization. It had no instanced housing an awesome crafting&farming system that was actually useful through most of the other game modes. It catered to different audiences with balanced openworld PvP (not skill wise but reward and punishment wise), interesting enough PvE, but I think the most important was the player driven economy that gave it such an amazing flare. Basically, no matter how you liked to play you were important and rewarded. I was mostly an explorer and lore hunter with a side of crafting and trading and I had a ton of stuff to do always. I would spend some time breeding and selling mounts, then find exploration points that gave me some unique coin rewards, then hunt for books and side-quests with interesting lore. I would get my boat and sail with my guild to trade with the enemy side on the risk of having pirate players get you killed and have everything stolen but you could rush back and those pirates that died would end up in prison for real time sentences picked by a court of players. I'm sure it had far more than that but I unfortunately joined on the time when monetization started to peak so I only got to experience a year of gameplay before it became unbearable. To this day I wish someone would pick the game up, clean up ALL monetization and new patches and just give us the gem that was at the beginning. Truly a sad story...

They basically added this system a week before release called "Labor" that timegates your farming and money grinding. But allowed you to buy potions in their shop to surpass the regeneration, and also added a premium monthly fee to expedite the regeneration, and expand the pool to a larger labor pool. On launch, people spent thousands to get gold faster the the others, and completely broke the game. People begged for them to remove labor, but they didn't listen. And since gear upgrading / crafting was gated behind gold, it was gg.

It had 120 possible classes almost none of which sucked. The variety of classes for PvP was also huge, it is not like two classes rock and 118 suck. The biggest thing for me though were ships and sea PvP. Not instanced, not downsized to a weird minigame. You just hop on a ship, you can walk around it, it has cannons and all that. On sea GvG was crazy. This thing alone made AA stand out for me forever. Flying was cool back then and Archeage had an elegant solution, that prevented the destruction of huge world feeling that happened with WoW. You couldn't actually fly in Archeage, you could only glide

Everyone looks at the steam number alone, which is a huge disservice to the game and that didn't help in it's "live or dead" state. I wish they would just deal with the issues it currently has and rerelease it, but as an NFT trash bin in it's current state? Not even worth touching IMO.

I remember playing the OG ArcheAge.... I quit after the beta. Lots of promise.... lots of nice things... instantly had a massive bot program where bots locked up all the player land with un-finished structures so the "decay" would never kick in, so they could sell the land for RL money. Dumb that they decided THAT was the best idea out of the flop of a launch.... SO now THEY will sell their land for RL money. What a joke...

Archeage was my game back then. For a solid 4 months I invested so much time and money into that game. It was amazing. I loved it. But it was just so broken...I remember my trade runs with the guild, building the first Black Pearl in EU and having so much fun an almost no sleep. I even got off work early when there was a kraken call. But the shop destroid everything so fast. I needed to quit for my own good and well being. In those 4 Months I played 1.3k h....

I still play Archeage daily, and completely enjoy it. Just do what you enjoy, and ignore the toxic idiots in public chat. There are a LOT of gorgeous houses and vehicles you can craft, farming you can do, animals you can raise, and about a million little quests. It's well worth checking out. There IS a flap with the new publisher, Kakao, and some issues with transfer and credits and such. But, they have also dropped the banhammer on thousands of botters and spammers, and hundreds of toxic idiots, too.

Great channel and videos (love the way you say monkees!). So many terrible projects you manage to find. However there are some good projects too. I try to play the best ones on my channel (although have played my fair share of crappy ones). I only play games that don't require any investment to play, so they have to get my attention by being fun. I recommend blankos block party (on pc) and crazy defense heroes on your phone. I have made actual money playing these game for free and although there not the mmorpg that your looking for, they are good at what they do.

My big question with NFT based games, especially since it mentioned a CHANCE at a rare fan card: Isn't this gambling, and subject to the laws/regulations of gambling? The lame excuse companies have used for years is you're gambling for pixels you don't own...paying for an experience, rather than goods you can readily convert to real money. However, NFTs are traded on the stock market and are recognized as worth money. This is directly spending money to gamble, in hopes of getting rich.

I've always said the real problem was XL much more than the publishers, and that the last iteration of joining KAKAO and Xl would show (because KAKAO as owner of XL has 100% control) if there really exists genuine good will on XL's side, which was then supposedly ruined by evil trion and gamigo. but now this ultimate betrayal with an NFT scam finally proves it was ALWAYS XL who was the driving force behind the predatory mechanics. regardless of publisher. which sadly means archeage NEVER had a chance since day one.

Former Archeage player here, I had the opportunity to speak to a former Archeage GM a few months after Trion went under. Among other things he mentioned they had a Saudi prince who played regularly. What needs to be understood about their business model is that no amount of free or even paying players complaining could ever matter when the game made probably 95% of its money from 1% of its players. Thousands of dollars was the *low* end of whales. The rest of us were just krill brought in for the whales to eat.
