My favorite sound I heard on Mythbusters was in the Spy episode where they were testing whether you could use supermagnets to crawl through an air duct surreptitiously. Jamie climbed into the air duct and proceeded to unleash the loudest clanging racket I ever heard on the show. Adam (and I) were laughing sooooo hard during that myth.

My issue with the canon ball incident was that the police put the bomb range in back when no one lived out there and then the city was ok with permitting builders to build houses next to a bomb range and then people moved next to a bomb range and then everyone acts all surprised when a canon ball ends up in a minivan. Can we stop doing this?

The airline reporting system SHOULD be active in ANY industry. If you make a mistake you should not be PUNISHED for making that mistake! You should be applauded for having the COURAGE to self report and help others BEFORE they make the same mistake. Unfortunately this is not the system that we have in place.
@soulreapermagnum
@soulreapermagnum 11 сағат бұрын
if i were to hazard a guess as to why it's not more prevalent, it's because there's too many people out there that if they're not going to get punished for something they don't care about making dangerous mistakes.
@NewtoRah
@NewtoRah 11 сағат бұрын
When I worked at a Nuclear facility, we'd get regular "OPEX" (operating experience) reports. Usually it was minor things from our own site, like an instrument found out of calibration and it would detail the reason it was missed so that we'd be able to see if anything in our facility may have been missed for the same reason. But the more serious the event, the wider it was spread. So we'd get reports from other sites across the country and even international reports when a very serious incident was found
@backonlazer791
@backonlazer791 5 сағат бұрын
@@soulreapermagnum I'm assuming OP would still expect them to be liable for any damages but not any additional "punishment". Fixing a mistake properly and making sure it never happens again (or reducing the chance as much as is feasible) can already be costly by itself.

Right along with the FAA mistake reporting system is that the US Navy did something similar. I think i heard it from Ryan Symanski in one of the Battleship New Jersey videos. IT used to be that if one of the crew members lost a tool they would want to cover it up to not get in trouble, but the consequences are astronomical if that tool is in a bad spot. Having the reduction gears eat a wrench would probably outright scrap the ship. Once they switched to a system where you wouldnt get in trouble for reporting your mistakes they had less problems because it would get figured out before more damage was done.

When I was in industrial repair, I'd tell the guys "I don't give a fuck who's fault it is, that's [insert boss's name here]'s job. I just want to know that something's fucked up so I can fix it." At first they were hesitant, but I never sold anyone out and after a little while I was told whenever something was broken and was able to prevent so many things from getting worse by fixing them as soon as they were broken.

I’m quite fortunate that I work for a company that has that culture in our local office. I’ve seen a new ~$5k motor destroyed when power was cut on-then we called the boss and told him. First question is always if anyone was hurt, then knock-on damage to facility, then, ‘do you know why?’ If ‘no, no, yes’, he’ll tell us to order a new one-and get it right next time. It makes a huge difference! We all make mistakes. They want us to learn from them and move on.

I once worked on a job site that went a step further than the post injury confab. Each day at the end of the lunch break, before getting back to it, we had a meeting where people volunteered stories of "near misses" since the last meeting, which then got discussed the same as if there actually had been an injury. Nothing happened, everything was fine, but it easily could have gone the other way - why didn't it and how could it have been avoided altogether.
@Scot-p1v
@Scot-p1v 2 сағат бұрын
Our company actually introduced an app for near misses (even before we lost someone to an old concealed skylight). I’ve reported several as they make it clear (actions: not just words) that nobody will be sanctioned. We have instituted procedures to deal with some reports from that app, so it’s an obvious benefit to all. Our current safety guy worked in the field for decades: that means a lot. Last one was pure white-collar middle management and neither deserved nor got any respect.

First off, the cement truck blowing up is my all time fave sound from the show! _(as is it for others I see)_ Followed closely by the cackling of the cast after a result surprised them.... Individually, their laughs all tie for second, as it's hard to not love such elation! *_HOWEVER..._* the question that has lived in my head ever since that episode aired, is: Is the sound that was recorded and _WE_ heard, accurate to what *THEY* heard in person? My gut feeling is that the sound is slightly different. Specifically that low tone, high-frequency oscillating "BBBvvfvfvfvfv" like noise. I feel as though, despite their equipment being high end stuff (particularly at that stage in the show), there likely was SOMETHING that could've caused it to sound different recorded. Not clipping of the mic, but perhaps the mic housing vibrated, or a result of the opening size/shape, or that the fuzzy wind sleeve _(if used)_ might've cause buffeting as the sound got slowed down by all the 'hairs'. 🤷‍♂️😊 So yea, I've always questioned whether what we heard was an accurate representation of what they had... If any of the knowledgeable viewer community may knows, or even one of the Tested crew that reads the comments by chance does, it'd be appreciated! 😊

Only after typing this all did I notice that the title said _"that WASN'T an explosion"..._ I'm glad my subconscious picked up on that and included their boisterous, surprise-triggered laughter as a second. Comically though, I've heard similar sound to that balloon mortar, so knew exactly what Adam meant as he described it and could hear it in my head! lol

there was one explosion after the second cement truck, that had an even better sound. and I agree that it was probably made better by the technology used to record it. hearing it live was probably cruder, just because it would overload their hearing

One of my favorite sounds, but I forget if it was Mythbusters or Tested, was the screaming rubber duck "bomb".

My favorite sound is the woosh from Creamer Cannon. I don’t think Myth Buster’s could have existed without animal lube.

The best/weirdest sound on Mythbusters was the weird noise coming from the steam machine gun.

"Rules are written in blood" So true i more think of it in the idea of the "no diving" sign above a toilet... Obviously me and you aren't gonna head dive into a 7 eleven toilet but someone has.

Mine was always the first moment when Adam squeezed a dozen or so rubber ducks at once. That or Adam's chicken catching attempts.

Adam a number of times i have found the widget i am looking for online only to be disappointed because it is only available in a print file for 3d printing. For those of us that dont have 3d printers my guess is there is or will be (market demanding) people we pay to print them for us. What are those people called (printer hosts) and how do i find them in my area? East Texas. Thanks.

Super smart of the FAA. I wonder if other agencies or unions should enact the same protocol.. I think they should.
