After watching the whole series for the third time, I am absolutely convinced they never knew what to do with Anya after she became engaged with Xander. What a waste of an amazing character: most likely the funniest character I´ve ever seen on a TV show, a sexy-as-hell overwhelming beauty, an over 1000-year-old ex-demon with immense knowledge of demonic culture and customs, a woman who speaks her mind no matter what or who´s around, a more than proficient swordswoman who even gave Buffy a run for her money when they fought, the unique perspective on life of someone who finds all human deeds foreign and strange... All these amazing traits were magnificently portrayed by Emma Caulfield and they still managed to reduce her to comic relief and Xander´s love interest; without even giving her the chance to marry him and fully enjoy the short time she got left. What a terrible and stupid waste.
