Before Michael Jackson, there was Jackie Wilson, one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Michael Jackson called Jackie his biggest influence and a leader in the business. Jackie Wilson set the bar of what a complete entertainer should be and many of the black entertainers who came after him, emulated Jackie's style from James Brown, The Temptations, to The Jackson Five, Michael Jackson, and to Usher.
Jackie had a gifted, versatile voice, he could sing soul, pop, blues, jazz, and even opera. A gifted dancer as well, who popularized spins, knee drops, and a host of creative dances, that people do to this day.
Jackie Wilson was the complete entertainer...talent, good looks, charm, sex appeal.

Hey Robert from three years ago. I'm not gonna get into a discussion of who's better than who. But when God gave us Jackie Wilson, he dropped a little bit of magic onto the earth. Could you imagine opening your mouth and hearing those sounds come out? And then looking down, and see your feet your feet moving like that? I will say this-- there has never been anyone, ever, better than Jackie Wilson.

How many singer today could just go out there, like Jackie, with just a microphone and just tear it up. He sang a ballad, a pop song, and an operatic aria. No back up dancers and no auto tune. Just a man with tremendous talent

People compare MJ and Jackie, as a compliment, and because they were two of the greatest of all time. They both were innovative, original, masters of the stage. Both had the power to amaze you. They both had energy, rawness, and passion. They could just mesmirize you. It's not fair to pit both against one another when it comes to who's the greatest. MJ adore Jackie, and Jackie would have loved MJ. They both were of different eras and every era has their greats. No one can doubt both were greats

Why doesn't anybody have talent like this anymore? Notice that Jackie didn't have to take anything off, didn't have to grab his genitals, and didn't have to "twerk" on anything or anyone. He just flat out kills it with that voice. He was a beautiful and talented gentleman. I miss him.

He and his peers like Sam Cooke and Lou Rawls started in the gospel circuit where it was often just you and your audience. No musicians, no mike. You had to articulate to be understood, you had to develop range to be interesting. Today everyone relies on studio gimmicks.

He had soul, he had rhythm, was a great singer & dancer and of course very charismatic! Sorry i never did get to see him perform, died way before his time. My idol, and I saw him many times on stage in Los Angeles as kid, how I was able to see him at 9 and 10 years old is a mystery to me, but I did. I was driven to see him, and I watched the women go mad. I realized my calling, and did become a singer. I met him as an adult in the late 70's at the airport in los angeles. i drove cabs while going to college. We picked up fares getting off the planes. I was not first up in line to be his driver however. I saw him dressed in all white, with his wife and son, them all in white, and like they stepped out of a cloud. I was speachless, but I said Jackie!, He reached and shook my hand, put is arm around my shoulder, while his wife and son walked to the cab that would take them. He talked me, and I a grown young man I was hipnotized. I felt like he gave me a gift from him at that moment, and a part of his talented soul. I had already been singing since I was 14 professionally already. I had recorded and did shows at 18 with producers at Motown and had records on the radio, plus I had worked with my own vocal group and band on the chiterlling circuit, but now I met my Idol, and I felt he was a part of my full circle and destiny. My autobiography will tell the rest of my journey, but in my mind, JACKIE WAS THE GREATEST EVER TO OPEN HIS MOUTH. I later studied classical voice in college and so much more, but he was a God!

@@ddlee202257 I gave up thinking about whether my fav entertainers were good people or not a while ago, because as you say, they are human, and being starts their mistakes can be bigger than the rest of us. Jackie really did not lead a good life, it was, perhaps partially through his own fault, and partially not, he led a tragic life. Probably the saddest of which is falling on stage (he was likely high) hitting his head, going into a coma for almost 10 years, becoming brain dead until he died around 39 or 40. ANd his record company totally screwed him. Still there has to be something in people so talented as Jackie that makes him such a complete artist. He is amazing, my favorite.

I’m from Dallas, TX., the first concert I attended in person was a Jackie Wilson concert. He was a hero to me as a performer. I saw him when he was at the top of his game, and years later when he was down. Living in LA in the late 60’s and early 70’s. I managed a drug store on the corner of Pico and Western. Jackie lived in the area and purchase his prescriptions from our pharmacy. One day the pharmacist asked me if Mr. Wilson, was someone famous? I replied yes, and he said he is a very sick man. It startled me. My response was how do you know? He said because of his medication. It was a few months later that he fell. Jackie’s, early work with Billy Ward and the Dominoes is often overlooked. He was truly Mr. Excitement on stage.

And to think at one time this quality of entertainment was norm of a prime time TV show. This was the standard and expectation. Today we as a society are lucky if get a performance half as good at the Grammys or any music awards. Even then, it wouldn't be this good. How did we stray so do far???!!!

Whenever i'm home in Michigan, I will visit Jackie Wilson's grave in Westlawn Cemetery in Wayne, Michigan probably have been to his grave about 10 times. The Cemetery was right across the street from the hospital that my Mom helped to run for 1962-1981 when she retired and we moved to Central Florida. God bless both Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson for helping to pay the family bills and his grave stone that his poor family couldn't afford after he suffered his major stroke there in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

I was born 2002 and have grown up listening to all modern day pop artists but I wish I was born in the 40s then I would have grown up listening to legends like Jackie Wilson and Bobby Darin and many others like the four tops and the everly brothers and the list goes on. 😢

This was such a beautiful performance! Bravo Jackie Wilson. He had smooth moves, catchy tunes, and such a lovely way of expressing his music. This is one of a few videos that I can watch from the beginning to the end without pausing it to do something else. He stands on his own throne.
