Jackie Wilson "Mr. Excitement"...what a great voice. Wilson collapsed on stage in 1975 and spent remainder of his life in a coma. He died in New Jersey in 1984, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. 1. Lonely Teardrops #7 in December 1958. 2. (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher #6 in September 1967. 3. That's Why (I Love You So) #13 in April 1959. 4. I'll Be Satisfied #20 in July 1959. 5. To Be Loved #22 in April 1958 in Eric Records stereo mix. 6. Whispers (Gettin' Louder) #11 in November 1966. 7. Night #4 in April 1960. 8. Talk That Talk peaked at #34 in January 1960 but was released in 1959. 9. Doggin' Around #15 in April 1960. 10. Reet Petite (The Finest Girl You Ever Want To Meet) #62 in September 1957 in Eric Records stereo mix. All songs on the Brunswick label. Great list. Many of his biggest hits were his cover versions of opera melodies with words written specifically for him. Night was the biggest of these, but "Alone at Last" and "My Empty Arms" were also top 10 pop hits.

Wilson was always a hazy mystery to me; never heard him on the radio, and rarely featured on oldies shows. Turns out he was very successful, well into the 60s. Didn’t hear him growing up because of rural Canadian radio programmers; too r&b, I guess - Nat King Cole, yes, Jackie Wilson, no. Great energetic style.
