In the video where Scott Hall crashes Iron Sheiks roast, there’s a clip of Sheik responding at a separate event spliced in the middle. Sheik starts cutting a promo on Hall (to the camera) but starts referring to Kevin Nash, until someone off camera corrects him. And Sheik correcting himself is fantastic “No, Scott Hall, not Kevin Nash! Kevin Nash, very good friend of mine! But you Scott Hall, you fucking piece of shit!”

What about Gunther? While the act is more subtle than foreign heels of the past, his Austrian nationality absolutely plays into character. Whether it be him barking insults at his opponents in his native tongue, Ludwig Kaiser announcing him in broken English, or the lyrics of his theme song, he’s more than just a heel who happens to be foreign… he’s a foreign heel. It also helps he’s one of the best in-ring talents of the millennium, the best Intercontinental Champion in history, and I believe he has more Meltzer 5-Star matches then anyone else in WWE history (it’s either him or, I dunno, Adam Cole or Cody Rhodes or something)
@Kaltagstar96

I mean, I don't know if a foreign heel has to be anti-American, but I don't know if in kayfabe Gunther thinks he's better than his foes BECAUSE he's Austrian, he just thinks he's better than them because he IS better than them.

I wish wrestling would go back to this gimmick. I've been pushing the idea of a Russian no-sell heel modeled after Kinnikuman's Warsman. Just someone who was ruthless and brutal in the ring and managed by a pompous charismatic Russian officer who was cruel to his talent, but the talent didn't mind because he's been trained to keep in line. I wrote that he'd come in, the manager would sell him as this unbeatable force in Russia prompting a match with a couple upstart talents ending in brutal submissions and it builds up steam from there and we see him taking on bigger talent and just seemingly unstoppable before a people's champ finally wins after a long brutal match.

WCW in 2000 sucked, but Lance Storm getting a big push upon his arrival as he won titles left and right and Canadianized them was one of the few highlights of an otherwise dire time for WCW.

Speaking as an English guy who grew up watching Bret Hart, I don’t view him as a foreign heel - not even a heel! The best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be! #pinkandblackattack

As you were counting down, I was thinking it had to be Bret. Good call. That last Hart Foundation run was pure magic.

I remember The Shiek from the 70s. He spoke English in promos, and was great at promos. He even played face once feuding with Superstar Billy Graham.

Since this video was made about the best foreign heels, I would like to see a video on the opposite side of the spectrum in the best foreign babyfaces in wrestling history. I know for me personally my favorite foreign babyface has to be Bret Hart who apart from his 1997 heel run & various heel runs in WCW was largely a babyface throughout his career. Also Mil Mascaras deserves to be mentioned in the best foreign babyfaces conversation mainly because he never turned heel in his career. Heck the man never even cheated in his matches & is largely beloved in Mexico for pioneering the lucha libre style.
