3D printers are cheap in material cost, but are incredibly expensive when it comes to your time spent on the minis. The time spent on troubleshooting, cleaning machines, removing supports,... is something I really underestimated when getting started with 3D printing.

Yeah they used to be for sure when I used my Elegoo Saturn/Mars2Pro but in all earnest...I have not had a single misprint with my Uniformation GK2. But I agree with you! 👍😅

All of them are nice and honestly would work together well in a warband but the Northstar Ogres are definitely my favourite. They're like modern versions of old school Warhammer ogres from the 90's.

I didn't know anything about them until I randomly saw them for sale on a website and decided I couldn't live without them. Great video bud also one thing about 3d printing where alot of people go wrong with resin printing is over curing the mini it makes it even more brittle :-) for minis of that size I would do 30-60 seconds max on each side (front and back) besides that these look brilliant and a cool video :-) will keep an eye out for more

My favourite Ogre is the Ogre Pit Fighter GW released back in the day. The big club and spike-hand are awesome. Mine is totally not a recast bought for €10… *ahem*! If the creators got royalties or GW still sold the model then I would be against recasts, but they choose not to in both instances. Of your selection, the “Ogre thug” takes it for me. I love him and would buy him if I could justify getting a third ogre 😂. Not sure I would give GW such a high availability score though, as I don’t think it’s fair to give them the “price per mini” angle. You have to buy a $51 box to get hold of one model. Tbf eBay can be your friend for modern GW, as box splitters can sort you out with most individual Ogre models for under $15. Really enjoyed that video Laith, nice slice of variety 👍👍

Loved this little comparison, and though I don't own a 3D printer myself, I agree with the first place of the Vae Victis minis, I've been looking at other kinds of minis from them as well for Mordheim, love the vibe they have for this game. Most of the minis I managed to get my hands on so far were the GW minis, probably because for someone whoe doesn't own a printer, they are the most accessible and also I think they are really good.

One of my favourite Ogres for Mordheim is that original metal Ogre Mercenary, so I would try to emulate it as much as possible. I really like the plastic Ogres by GW, but also Mantic's Ogres for Kings of War, so I would try to kitbash the two and then give him additional details with green stuff.

For those looking for another option in hard plastic, I highly recommend Wargames Atlantic's kit of "Landsknecht Ogres". The Landsknecht being the Real Life Germanic mercenaries on which the Empire of Man's armies were based. Ogres with this aesthetic used to be supported by GW in earlier editions of Warhammer Fantasy. Wargames Atlantic recreated this type very well in a hard plastic kit, with tons of build options (including ones for Sci Fi "Ogryn"). At 9 models for $35 (with multi-box discounts and free shipping on orders over $50), the WA option is one of the most affordable I've found. They would work very well as mercenaries for an Empire warband in Mordheim. (Warmonger Miniatures, the fantasy counterpart to Foundry, also has an extensive selection of metal Ogre models in the Landsknecht style. As stated in the video, metal is not as convenient as plastic or even resin. But the Warmongers models are flavorful, and there's enough models in the range that you scarcely need to kitbash them. It wouldn't be difficult to find a model with the exact arrangement of weapons you want. I've considered making an Ogre Kingdoms/Ogor Mawtribes army using a mix of Wargames Atlantic plastics and a sprinkling of Warmongers metal, as unit leaders and heroes.)

Lovely surprise, this was a good miniatures vid. Hrm, I like the Northstar ogres for their visual appearance, very old world and characterful. I do like the GW ogres for their customization, value lies in their kitbashing, the helmeted head from the Ironblaster or the Ironguts with chainmail face covering, very menacing, and so many weapons across the range for use. I've seen Wargames Atlantic Ogres online but not in person so I can't say about those, they do look good though. And Warmonger Miniatures have some metal ogres too, with dapper hats, various weapons, poofy sleeves a plenty, and oozing old school charm. My #1 would be GW but its very close, its crowded around that top spot.

The accessibility of 3d printing can fluctuate quite a bit depending on your living situation. If you can't fit one in your home due to hazardous materials, the score should drop significantly. But yeah, the advantages are great, and so are the sculpts.

For a better bond using super glue on prints, give a very light dusting of baking soda. Be ready for it to bond almost immediately though.

@@DevsDiceI don't know if it's a chemical thing or if it just gives more tooth, but that's what I've found. Also in my last apartment that had walls seemingly made of sand I would use baking soda and superglue to fill in holes and leave a surface strong enough to drill screws into so my curtains would stop falling down. Reaper Miniatures has some great looking ogres too, and their new material (Bones USA), should be pretty good (not like their normal, soft, white crap). As others mentioned too, Wargames Atlantic has a plastic kit and the aesthetics fits Mordheim pretty well. And Black Scorpions ogres are one of the best looking ones! (Yes, is searched a lot for ogres at the time I needed them...)

I'm a fan of Vae Victis minis, but in this case I prefer the ogres to appear a bit more heavy and lumbering. Aesthetically I feel the others had more weight.

Nice to see my personal spirit animals getting some attention. Have you tried printing one of the vae victis ones with maybe 110%size for the torso and legs and maybe 80-90% size for the head? The proportions seem a bit off (for a fantasy eight foot cannibal). Maybe have a look at the GW maneaters? Some of them would be perfect for Mordheim. My personal favourite is Brutogg from the cursed, cursed city box. He even has a john Blanche looking shoulder plate.

Rangers of Shadow Deep Ogres are lovely. Bought them as soon as I saw them. Is Wargames Atlantics modular Landsknecht Ogres something you will look into?

For me, the Northstar Ogres are the best match for Mordheim. They fit in perfectly with the original Mordheim Ogre in my collection.

hey I really like the skin you did what's your recipe? and if you did something more sickly like a zombie or vampire how would you adjust it?

Thank you so much! I basically used GW paints for it (Bugmans, Cadian and Kieslev) with some 50/50 mixes! For undead I would try to find three paints but in a sickly greenish/bluish hue. Or paint them normally and use a purple wash afterwards! 👍😊

Wargames Atlantic have a pretty good looking ogre miniature kit that might suit your needs, but they look a little too civilized for my liking.

I think Reaper Miniatures' resin and plastic cast ogres should have been included. The plastic one is especially cheap and not as well detailed, but the plastic is easy to cut, making it easy to customize. And their prices are hard to beat! They won't compare to GW, but if you're on a budget they're a solid contender. Also: There's only a few configurations for Ogre Bodyguard, but my favorite is the sword and axe combo. Use the sword off hand as a parry, since you only get light armor for protection, and the axe to more easily bring a person down. You could do sword and mace, but with helmets the bludgeon weapons become less effective.

I actually really dig the metal one but I have the same complaints about customising it. Metal is hard to convert. I do want to convert an ogre to have his sword resting on the shoulder because of it now though. The multipart resin ogres was kind of meh imo but not bad.

Yeah I honestly think the metal one was good if you want one with a sword. The only thing I would worry about on my table would be if it dropped down on an XPS foam board. That would leave a dent in the terrain! 😊 👍
