The Best Patriots Fans’ Reaction to Super Bowl 51 Overtime Drive

This is our true reaction to the final drive for five in Super Bowl 51, where the Patriots pulled off an unbelievable comeback over the Falcons in their 34 - 28 win and winning their 5th Super Bowl in 16 years. Other than myself, no one knew I was recording.
No one was allowed to leave their seats from their halftime feasting. We were all afraid to jinx the comeback.... needless to say, it WORKED!

#2 for me. #1 was Super Bowl XLII. Eli Vs. Tom. The first one. David vs. Goliath Bowl. I descibed SUPER BOWL XLII as Balto vs. Steele or Hubie vs. Drake or Ponyta/Rapidash vs. Dodrio. #1 overall seed/undefeated Vs. #6 lowest rated seed/the "Cinderella" Team. The Helmet Catch still to this day wss the best play in Super Bowl History and I'm not even a Giants fan.

Can definitely tell that the dude in red is a real fan...he knows James White almost NEVER breaks a tackle...and the stress on his face is palpable...as someone who was a fan since 91 when I was 6 years old...seeing 2 - 14, 5 - 11 and a 6 - 10 seasons...from the Pete Carroll years...to Bill's first year in 2000 when they chose to keep 4 qb's on the roster(which has to be unprecedented) just to make sure they didn't lose Brady on waivers when trying to get him to the practice squad...seeing this game was a remarkable culmination of everything that came beforehand...my favorite win ever...a game that made me go from devastation to hope to stress and finally to ecstasy...the next SuperBowl was just whipped cream on an incredible cake

Freaking brilliant. I worked at the NFL Experience in Houston for that Super Bowl. The NFL rented out a bar for us to go to to watch the game and it was literally 99% Falcons fans. It was me and one other guy who had on a Brady jersey rooting for the Pats. I'll never forget this game. It was the greatest game I've ever seen.

I was Smallman. I was watching it, but I saw none of the Pats possessions in the second half live. Every time the Pats touched the ball in the second half, I turned away from the television because clearly I was the one jinxing them from winning by actively viewing the game. Clearly. I could listen. Replays were okay. There are rules to this stuff, you know? My wife, already convinced of my madness after 26 years, observed this without comment. I tell you that when the Falcons scored again early in the third to make it 28-3, I thought it was over. I had no doubt that the Pats would come back enough to make it respectable, but I had no expectation of victory. The wife's faith was never shaken. I feel a little shame every time I think about that. By the end of it all, I was pacing little circles in the kitchen, with my hands running through my hair. I would be curious to know what my vital signs were during the second half... Even I knew (as did McCourty with his cat-ate-canary look after the coin-toss), that the Pats would win in O/T, but not watching had brought the Pats back from the abyss, so why would I screw with the machinery? You know the one time I peeked? When Martysaurus was nearly intercepted in the end zone! Sheesh! When I watch Super Bowl LI now, (and I watch it more than I will admit), I only watch the second half. Sue me. I often intro it with Lady Gaga's half time performance, which was arguably the best one ever..it's certainly in the mix...Go Pats!

I know this comment is a year old, but I relate to this experience on a whole other level. My mom and I are Saints fans (although our AFC team is the Patriots, we've always wanted to live in NE. call me a bandwagon if you want, I was born into the dynasty era) so we really enjoyed LI. Ever since then, though, I've been jinxed. I watched the first half of the game, then went upstairs to my room. The Patriots won, but I was "jinxed" so I couldn't come see it. I nearly broke my leg running down the stairs when my mom was yelling about the Edelman catch. But then later that year, the Saints played the Redskins. The Saints were down 16 pts with about 3(?) minutes left on the clock. I went upstairs, and the Saints won in overtime. Later on, in the NFC divisional round, the Saints of course played the Vikings. They were down 17-0 at the half, then when I went upstairs and gave up on them, all of a sudden it was 24-23. I ran down to make sure the score on my browser was real. My mom shooed me back upstairs. A moment later, we all know how that game ended. Literally every time I go into my room, the Saints(Patriots sometimes too) have a comeback. Checking the score on MSN somewhat jinxes it, but I can't go down and watch it. Literally every time I checked it, my team lost.

It’s awesome to love football so much. I totally get it. I was raised an Alabama fan and always will be. I was a Bama fan when we had the embarrassment of Mike Price for like a month. I was a Bama fan when we lost to Auburn like 6 years in a row. And I’m lucky enough to be an Alabama fan during the Saban era where we play for the Natty almost every season. RTR!! Some people can’t understand why you love a team so much. And for me it’s because I grew up watching the members of my family that I love so much get so excited about Alabama football. The memories of your family as a child and growing up become attached to that team that your family loves. And that you love. I also played football for 12 years. And have always loved the game.

How the two people are on the couch during this video, is how I felt during this super bowl, this is a perfect video to show you how much stress a true fan goes through during a game of this caliber. This same stress can be applied to the OT AFC championship game in 2018, and super bowl 53, and the 2014-15 super bowl against the Seahawks.
