After painting my kitchen cabinets last month, I decided to see how much I can live without in the kitchen. It’s a lot less. Granted I’m not cooking much due to depression but it’s a worthwhile experiment even just to put the rest in a few tubs for a few months. Sure there’s been a few things I had to pull out of storage but it’s my way of calming the kitchen down which is what I need right now. ❤

I was very overwhelmed when I started decluttering, so thankful for Dawn!! She has helped me and motivates me to continue going further!! I started A shelf in my bathroom and A drawer in my kitchen. And feeling how nice it was to get things in and out felt SO good!! And with those muscles, I started sections of rooms. Over a year in and my house feels so different in such a great way! Start small, build those muscles (as Dawn says) and keep watching to stay motivated!! You got this 💪🏼

May I suggest. Get 5# of onions. Chop them up. Using your chopper. Put 1 cup of chopped onions in snack bags. Freeze flat. Then put those bags in a freezer bag and keep frozen. When you cook grab a frozen bag and add to pot. Bam. Done!
@HannahRainbow88Сағат бұрын
For me - intolerant, not fully allergic - it's worth it to pay a bit more for pre-chopped frozen onions instead. The savings are not worth the streaming/flu-like symptoms to me, but I see why you do it 😊 I do bulk buy, chop and freeze carrots, peppers and zucchini, and tend to use frozen veggies instead of fresh (that would rot in the fridge🤭). This way I can grab these prepped bags and just dump them into the crockpot for ragu etc. as needed, without waste 💗

I think I've been following you over 2 years, maybe 3? I'm not sure! But I stumbled across your video on KZbin somehow, and you have literally transformed my home and life. We were living in around 1,000 sq ft with our family of 6 when I first started decluttering. The kitchen was first, and toys next. I felt like I was drowning, suffocating in stuff and when we moved into our new house about 2 years ago, it felt so empty ( It's 3,400 sq ft). I was determined not to fill it up and continued to declutter. My sister even told me, "Your house is barren. You've gotten rid of 75% of your stuff." I took that as a compliment 😆 This lifestyle isn't for everyone, but for me it brings peace and much less anxiety. Thank you!

When I get stuck I pretend I’m in someone else’s house (like my Mum’s who had a lot of clutter) and think, “Why are you keeping this?” I imagine their protest or excuse and the looks on their face and mine. I also look over it more to see if it’s broken to further strengthen the argument to not keep it. I didn’t really do this before, the emotion got me or the what if I need it filled my mind. This removes me from the guilt and makes the decision objective over an item. 😊

My husband and I had friends stay with us 11/15/24-11/20/24. We had our family stay with us 11/23/24-11/30/24. Because we have simplified our home so much- getting our home tidied up did not take long at all. I cannot thank you enough for all of your help. We were able to do this and get our house back in shape easily. I continue to declutter on an ongoing basis. IT REALLY WORKS!!!!! Thank you❤️

I started decluttering when I was getting overwhelmed by everything. It brought peace of mind, it felt easier to breathe afterwards and it brought a sense of accomplishment. Your videos motivated me keeping up the work little by little. I started in the kitchen and that was a good choice for me as there are no sentimental stuff there, so it was easy to ask myself if I really need and use this. I took a year off from decluttering as my dad passed away and there was a lot to manage there. But getting started on a second round now. We brought some bags of stuff from my dad's place and they haven't found a place yet. And the sense of stuff creeping up again has started to weigh me down. So high time to start peeling the second skin on the onion. Thanks Dawn for your encouragement and walking alongside (even if you don't know me but know that you are).

It's so funny that you mention the chopper as a bust. Someone got it for me for my wedding, I didn't use it for years, then decided to try it. And LOVE it! I use it so much that I wear it out and buy a new one probably once a year now. I wish they lasted longer, so if a quality one shows up, I'm in! But I got rid of kitchen stuff I don't use like my cheese grater, hand mixer, and multiples of all my measuring items. On the other hand I have 4 dutch ovens that I use weekly for sourdough bread and general cooking. Love you, Dawn!

I would start in the place that bugs you the most. Dawn giving us 'permission' to get rid of things even if they were a gift or we spent money on was really helpful. I was most embarrassed by what people would see when they were in my front door, but most inconvenienced by the extra stuff crammed in my kitchen. My fastest 'wins' were getting rid of the ridiculous number of mugs in my kitchen cupboard so I had a place within easy reach for bowls and plates too, and getting rid of old bedspreads, mattress covers, and pillows I had replaced but not gotren rid of the old ones. My house had much more storage space than I thought once I started getting rid of all the stuff that was duplicates, had been replaced, or was not likely to be used.

"Highly highly highly simplified", I had to laugh. Chopper: I hated the PRE chop to make veggies fit the small space. It is SO LOUD and awful for frequent migraine sufferers. Kit: Last summer I purged over 300 dishes that were given to us as wedding /birthday gifts. 3 sizes Plates, 2 kinds of cups, 3 kinds of bowls, 3 kinds of glasses, punch bowl and so much more-- ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS. Clothing: Love Courtney, hubby and I each have about 100 items for ALL seasons, NOT counting jewelry though. We have a moderate walk in closet and all our clothes do not even fill 2 walls of the 3. Almost at 225,000 items gone following Your/ Dawn's challenges & contests in the Minimal Mom Mentorship group.

I started in the kitchen, with my silverware drawer, kept only my favorites and only 6 of each and 2 sharp knifes, everything else went in a time will tell box (because it was a few month before my son moved in his own apartement, and I already knew that he soon would move out, so I kept the overflow and he is using it now in his home. I was so amazed by the result of only simplyfiing the one drawer, and how much I liked it. I would open it only to look into it, how nice it felt and has been since then. And that motivated me a lot. So I have been decluttering and systemizing since then. The kitchen is huge, so is the closet and the paperstuff, especially have your incoming paper sytemized makes such a difference. Thank you Dawn, you have inspired me and given me real solutions! I have ADHD and had burnout and was totally overwhelmed with my stuff, thanks to you I finally can deal with it, and my home starts coming together. You helped change my life bigtime!

INTERNATIONAL VIEWERS: I hve followed Dawn since the very beginning and I can say that her knowledge in this area and her ability to communicate is phenomenal!! Here is my struggle- I am someone who moved overseas from the USA. Where I live is good- we have options BUT not near what the USA has. Some of the items that I no longer use I struggle to get rid of- especially !!! the stuff that I shipped here. Some of it is honestly irreplaceable. Unless I spend 3000 to fly back to the USA to buy it or equal amounts to fly to Papua New Guinea to replace items. Also here they have a comparable item but… for example, I purchased a kitchen mixer- standard- and it was 500$. So replacing items is extremely expensive 😮💨😮💨😮💨 But with that said my husband and I did a massive declutter and did end up getting rid of some of those items and while it was difficult, now that it is gone, I am honestly very thankful to have my home reduced and simplified even further. You can’t change the fact that items are irreplaceable. You may need to be extra sure because replacing them is not really an option. But! 😊 every person who wants a simplified home has to learn to live with less and fewer options. I say all of those for those who are watching in a different country. It is a bit more difficult but the rewards are still worth it!

I can say the opposite is so true as well. After coming home from the holiday, and in the flurry of unpacking, trying to get back into routine, restock the empty fridge, get the pets readjusted to the time zone, etc etc. There’s just SO MUCH INVENTORY and I haven’t been able to get anything done bc all my energy and focus gets sucked into trying to calm the physical chaos surrounding me. So instead of working, I find myself doing all the laundry or reorganizing the tea or suddenly unable to resist the need to purging the medications.

I am in a different season of life, and an empty nester. I agree that the 3 most important areas to tackle are how you dress, how you feed yourself and host guests, and how you entertain yourself (and potential guests) within your home. This is universal, regardless of the life you live or the size of your home. Empty-nesters, or those who work from home have the additional complications of inherited nostalgia or work tools or reference materials that lost their purpose over time. These may be more challenging categories, and best kept in their own space until invited into your life.

Toys; when I was little I came home and my mum had gotten rid of my favourite dolls house and other toys. That affected me even to today with my kids. I can’t get rid of things because I don’t want them to have that same feeling

Our new Keuig was not even 6 months old, when it died. It might have been more like four months old. The one we had before that one lasted for many years. I already had a French press coffee maker. That's what we are using now. It's a fraction of the co$t compared to having to keep buying new Keuigs, within weeks of each other. Being able to enjoy a fabulous cup of coffee made in a way that you can really taste and enjoy all of the flavors that the coffee has to offer is definitely worth it. I'm exchanging what's more or less "instant coffee" - for taste and quailty. Yes, it takes longer to prepare but we have no regrets. We have an espresso maker too. I enjoy *making* coffee with it on my days off work.

What if my 2 year old dumps his toys out (simplified minimal 4 box cubes with occasional rotations) and maybe plays and usually leaves without picking up or helping if I ask, too many toys or I need to try harder for him to help or super normal for toddlers?

Hi, can you have your husband do a video on how he declutters his clothes for my husband? That would be great!

Good idea to start with the kitchen. However I wonder where you are suposed to put your fresh fruits that don't belong to the fridge? I would love to have clear surfaces it's just not very realistic.

I hated that chopper. It was a pain to clean and I always cut myself cleaning it and putting it away. I couldn’t even give it to a friend because what kind of friend would I be? Not sorry to see it go!

Omg I just bought that chopper! I'm a bit underwhelmed with the functionality of it. Not as great as the ads!
