If you don't run into people who have played this game for years and are just casuals, you'll likely have a ton of fun just mashing buttons until you can figure out what to start doing with your favorite characters. MVC is easy to get into but at higher levels it becomes a gauntlet of the craziest skill you've ever seen in a fighting game. But that can honestly be motivating because one day you can be that good if you just keep at it.

I remember back in 2001 when I moved to Vegas, I would sit in the arcades for hours and hours and hours on the MvC2 cabinet, that and Soul Cal conquest. Anyway, I discovered quickly what team comps annoyed the best players. In arcade there is no etiquette, the best players are looking to stomp you and establish dominance, they are picking Storm/Magneto/Cable first, then they pick random crap later, but I had these dudes staying picking the OP stuff lmao. I was playing Capcom vs Snk 2 when this was in arcades, so I wasn't used to the juggling. CvS 2 is way more technical and pokey and zoney.

I so want to play this game online again like I did back in 2010. It's great when I play against other low/mid-tier teams, but I am in no way shape or form prepared for the "I blinked and now I'm dead" god-tier bullshit. I know it takes skill and execution to pull off, but nothing is more frustrating than getting absolutely murdered for using a mid-tier team and being mocked and disrespected for even trying. Magneto is so fast it literally looks like the game is skipping frames to keep up with him. I still remember one god-tier player messaging me "You're ruining this game u fuckin noob. Go back to playing Oblivion" after absolutely wrecking me, and that was 14 years ago.

I did use Jill and Gambit but I was using them Son Son for her anti air and ability to DHC into both Jill (if in the corner) and Gambit (after her giant staff super) and FROM Gambit's Royal Flush into whatever the super is called that turns them into fruit. I started using Ken after seeing how his assist literally renders the opponent completely open for a huge window to do whatever the hell you like (watching Max). I basically switch between having Jill or Felicia as my point characters with Gambit and a good but non-top tier anti air because I can't feel good winning with Psylocke on my team.....

The two hypest moments I've had playing this game were both with Jill. 1) Playing in the arcades, I stopped a Juggernaught Head Crush by kicking a zombie onto the ground and as soon as Jugs slid his way into it, he got his ankles munched. Head Crush stopped dead in its tracks. 2) Playing at my friend's house on their Dreamcast. They were Jin and just pulled out the Blodia Punch Super. I accidentally did Jill's counter (because that's a move you never want to do on pupropse). Jin's fist hit me first, so Jill yelled "HOLD IT!" and the giant, red and black Blodia Fist that has just come on screen said "Okay" and went back where it came from while Jill filled Satome full of 6 bits of lead. Man, I used to love playing this game. Now my slow, old-man reflexes won't allow me to play it. Or, at least I refuse to embarass myself while playing it

did they redo the palettes? maybe its modern color settings, but I REALLY like how much more it seem like the colors are popping, as well as it looks like the palettes use close to true black on the lower end of the characters swatch . I also remember people picking lamer colors. this all looks great

I don't think they redid the palettes. On the original arcade it looks just as vibrant. It doesn't look as good on the home ports especially not on home quality TVs back in the early 2000s

At higher levels you have to be strategic about tagging. You don’t want to just raw tag because it can get you completely blown up, especially if the opponent is anticipating it. DHC’s (if you don’t mind spending meter) and “Alpha counters” are good ways to get them out of harms way more safely.
