What’s up guys! Here’s a quick reaction to the original depth jump video. Dr Verkhoshansky is a pioneer for plyometrics and his book “supertraining” changed my perspective on training when I first read it in college.
The mid 1900’s Russian research is a gold mine of information, but because of the language gap many trainers never came across the research.
As always, remember that plyometrics can be some of the highest forces on the body so you may not be able to start with these intense variations.
My favorite program for gradually building up towards intense plyometrics is The Durability Code
www.pjfperform...
As for athletes who are experienced and ready for intense plyo’s I advise getting on The Vert Code Programs and/or The Mac McClung Jump Program.

We would probably still be 30 years behind in sports science without Soviet research and applications.

I learned all these techniques and training about 20 years ago. I would say, from experience. These exercises are immensely effective. Your bounce will Increase significantly. If done properly and consistent.

oh, you didnt know about the ballet 180 over the locker-room bench plyo jumps? you should definitely add it to your routine. (seriously, we should all add this to our workouts. maybe adjust it to make it more practical in a gym lol)

The great Michael Yessis - in that video - I went to his house in north county San Diego 10 years ago. Was a great experience - kind of lost touch with him

You are totally right about some of these not being plyometrics which is thrown around a lot these days, ground contact time has to be about .2 of a second or quicker to be considered true plyometrics. Dr Michael yessis also talks about this.

@@fredator76 I edited my comment. He says that some of theses exercises aren’t true plyometrics and that would be accurate, some the exercises in the video are true plyometrics, where the ground contact time is less than .2 of a second otherwise it’s just really considered jump training

Are empty bar squat jumps really that dangerous? I do understand the force multiplies the risk of injury with the weight being used; like any power move with weights
@hamzanabulsi4662
@hamzanabulsi4662 2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, the only danger is that the bar may fall on the neck or hit it the wrong way. So the safer option is either with a trap bar or dumbbell in both hands, its basically the same thing as the empty bar squat jump.
@fredator76
@fredator76 2 жыл бұрын
No weighted jumps are dangerous. It's all relative to the individual's strength. I've done jumps with 400lbs, no problem.

Its an old training excercise that long jumpers use that gets used to this day. I cant remember who but one day a track and field athlete started using it and got really impressive results. Then at some point a basketball coach started to incorporate in their training to allow the players to improve their explosive sprints and to their shock this also improved their hops. There are a few classic ballers that followed this training and MJ happened to be one of them

Focus on driving knee forward and ankle dorsiflexion. It seems easy but actually quite difficult to do it right. I suggest you to be better at doing single leg depth jump before learn to bound.
