Gonna be applying to ICU after almost 2 years of Medsurg! Man the ratio I started with was 1:10/9 with no charge nurse (they get 9 patients as well). Still getting 8 patients up to this day. I do not know how I lasted this long. I feel like I aged 20 years and I am only 23.

Isn’t that crazy! You feel like you lived lifetimes on the unit. Just the patient interactions give you some much knowledge and perspective. Med surg nursing is definitely draining. You doing Medical ICU?

Did ER for over year and just quit. It’s been overwhelming juggling all types of patients from the needy ones to the most critical ones that I have to ship to ICU or cath lab. Hopefully ICU will be better for me.

You won’t know until you try! It’ll give you more time to think about what’s going on from a systems stand point. In the ED you do a lot of things and in the ICU you do a lot of specific things. If that makes sense. But regardless you’ll figure it out.

Hey bro we were all scared in the beginning. You’ll get through it. The anxiety doesn’t fully go away but the feelings of competency do build. You’ll get through it and you got it!

@@CUPOFNURSES yeah 2 weeks in and its fun af, extremely tiring though got assigned to my first patient 5 days ago and i worked an hour and a half passed my shift lol theres just so much to do its overwhelming. Its 2 pm which was the end of my shift but i still havent even started my report lol. But fortunately the other nurses understand since they've gone through the exact same phase when starting out. But now i finally got the hang of it and is able to managed my time properly thankfully

Congrats! Im currently going through the same situation. I got accepted into the ICU as a new grad as well. I’m really excited but scared at the same time. I’d appreciate any advice.

medsurg units where I have worked ratios are 6-8 to 1. I worked on a step down with 6 patients. I cant do it anymore. I want to transition to ICU.

That’s a lot of patients. I’d be struggling with that lord for sure. I encourage you to try the ICU or a hospital with better step down ratios.

What is better rad tech or nursing?
@CUPOFNURSES
@CUPOFNURSES 8 ай бұрын
It depends what you want to do. Rad techs go around taking portables or work the machines like CT or MRI. It depends what you want to do. If you want something more versatile nursing is the way to go but if you want something more calm and repetative rad tech is for you.
