Also I am glad you have it setup correctly. Remember this setting is for streaming and games. Blu-ray setting is different and can be accessed by selecting the 3 dots during Blu-ray playback

Thank you for replying much appreciated. I have just installed 2 atmos speakers so just getting used to it. I just tried some atmos Disney content but my Arcam is not switching to Atmos? In AV amplifier channels settings it is 5.1 can not see anything for 5.1.2 ? If I set Audio Priority to Atmos it still does not show Atmos when trying Disney, when I play a game it shows Atmos. Any idea what I’m doing wrong 🙂

Hey, what's up?I wonder if you could help me.I have APS 5 slim.The audio keeps cutting on and off.I was wondering if it was a setting?I needed to adjust on the p s five or Or just playing a setting on my TV I got APS 5 slim and a Sony XL93.

The Dolby Atmos setting in the PS5 is for 3D Tempest audio games (and actual Atmos games in the future). Try it with some 3D audio gamrs with the Atmos games and you'll hear it. I was playing Baldurs Gate 3 the other day and Shar's voice came through the heights clear as day. When watching the streaming services, the Dolby Atmos setting SHOULD work with Atmos movies IF, and only if, the streaming service has updated their app to make use of it. When using the PS5 Atmos setting, it will output whatever sound is in the source. If the source is in Stereo, it will only send stereo. If its in 5.1, it will play back as 5.1. If its in Atmos, it should play back as Atmos. But the streaming services on PS5 mostly do NOT send Atmos to the PS5. It sends DD+ 5.1 with no Atmos metadata. Keep in mind, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with blu ray and 4k blu ray and its ability to do Atmos. Blu ray bitstreams Atmos JUST FINE, needing no processing from the PS5 itself. It bitstreams to your receiver which does the decoding to Atmos. The Dolby Atmos in the PS5 setting is the actual PS5 itself doing the decoding and sending Atmos MAT to your receiver/processor in a form it can read and send out to your speakers as 3D audio. This is why the Atmos cannot be upmixed....its a special tag. But yes, Mo is correct. If you like to upmix content, keep it as bitstreaming (DD or DTS) or as PCM. Only switch it to Dolby Atmos if you are playing a game you know has 3D audio. I believe the Atmos with Vudu worked in bitstream mode because it is designed to Bitstream the exact same way a blu ray does. It sends the Atmos metadata through the bitstream as normal. Streaming services require the streaming device do the decoding, which is why Atmos with Playstation and Xbox has been so contentious. I use a Roku Ultra for my streaming services so I dont even mess with those on my PS5. I set the Audio based on my needs for gaming. I default to PCM and switch to Atmos when the game has 3D audio.

interesting. But I believe that setting up dolby atmos for your ps5 is on a case by case basis. ALWAYS check your systems manual when setting up your home theater equipment For example. My M Series Vizio AVR has Dolby Atmos/DTSX/And DTS Virtual X. My soundbar will ONLY decode and play Atmos coded content when I have the audio format priority on my PS5 set to Dolby Atmos. My AVS also will audibly tell me outloud what content and audio format I am using. if i put my audio format on just Dolby audio setting on my ps5, it will tell me outloud i am only running Dolby Audio/Dolby Digital Plus. Also my upfiring speakers do not engage if I do not have my setting on my PS5 to Dolby Atmos. I have always learned that not everyone's AVR systems are the same and you should always take a look at what your manufacturer says .

Great video. Using the Atmos setting on my PS5 has the placement all wrong particularly voices within games eg Bioshock Remastered had speech coming from the rear channels. By changing to Dolby Audio, speech is now perfect and my ceiling Atmoss speakers are now producing sound (amp is set to Dolby Surround)

Thanks a lot bro! It's so counterintuitive that when you select Atmos on the PS5 and my receiver doesn't recognize my 4 height speakers. I have 7.1.2 and I'm not sure why it doesn't recognize the extra 4 speakers. I selected Linear and same result but I think I could hear sound out of the heights but it was so quiet you could barely hear it.. But just Dolby audio and now all 9 speakers are definitely involved. Awesome

@@magnoliamo When I select Auto Surround it defaults to Dolby 5.1. I have to use Neural DTS for all 9 speakers to work or one of the virtual 7.1.2 sound fields. Sounds pretty good but I don’t know if I’m truly getting 7.1.2 I deserve. When I use my PC, it defaults to Atmos on my receiver. I’ve got a Pioneer Elite VSX-LX 303.

I tell you what tho. When I play the Atmos demonstrations on my PC thru the Dolby Access app thing, holy smokes that’s the best and most definitive audio I’ve ever heard. It’s absolutely glorious.

OK so I put in my HD Blu Ray of Dune, on the PS5, select Atmos from the Blu Ray menu, and the reciever says PCM but the receiver shows that I’m representing all 7.1.2. I guess because the PS5 is decoding the Atmos but the receiver thinks it’s getting it but does want to say we’re getting Atmos. I don’t know. I just checked and it’s not coming out of my height speakers. Change the receiver to Neural and now I’m getting all 9 speakers involved. The PS5 just doesn’t want to give me native Atmos unless I select Neural, which is not pure but pretty good. Any help?

I just picked The Batman (latest one) randomly. And this started as an argument with one of my buddies who was saying that the Netflix atmos on AppleTV is better than the Netflix atmos on PS5. And I said that’s because Netflix on PS5 doesn’t output Atmos. He had his PS5 set on the Dolby Atmos priority and didn’t know it was just a flag and not real Dolby Atmos lol. 😂

So when to turn on the dolby atmos option? By the way, I did switch to dolby audio as you suggested as I did notice an improvement from my sound bar. I know it is nothing compared with a true home audio system. Can you do this test with a 3D Studio Mini? That is my current set up. 😂

Dolby Atmos option is for games that have Dolby Atmos. For streaming apps leave the option at Dolby Audio. For the def tech studio 3D mini you would have to put your ear to the side firing speakers while playing Dolby Atmos content.

@@magnoliamo Thanks for the info buddy. Great content, keep up the good work. Thinking about upgrading my system to a Samsung soundbar Q990D. I am not ready for a full home theater yet. Do you have an opinion on that sound bar? Also, soundbars are limited when it comes to HDMI’s ports but it is my understanding that for better sound quality (when it comes to soundbars) is better to connect all ur devices (PS5, Switch, Xbox, etc) to your TV and the TV to the sound bar via eArc. Is that true? My current set up is LG TV C1 2021, XBOX Series X, Switch, PS5, Studio 3D Mini from Def Tech. Unfortunately, my LG tv does not support DTS but I rather play 4K@120Hz since the apps I use for streaming do not support DTS. Once again, tks and keep up the good work.

eARC is the way to go for the PS5. I connect my PS5 to my Sony A80J and utilize the eARC too. As for the Samsung Q990D according to rtings.com that’s a better soundbar than the Sonos ARC. It performed well in their testing on Atmos.

Yes. Bitstream and Dolby Digital as priority.

Thank you! Now, one more question: if I set Dolby digital it tags my sound bar as 7.1 channel in the movie info screen vs multi channel with dolby atmos-this normal? I guess one more, with these settings will it switch to atmos for games that are able to use it?

There is another audio setting for Blu-ray Discs. The 3 dots, make sure that is set to bitstream.

The Dolby Atmos setting under the sound output priority section on the PS5 is meant for games such as Spider-Man 2. For games I would set the audio priority to Dolby Atmos instead of Dolby digital. I have the Spider-Man 2 game and i needed to set audio priority to Dolby Atmos in order to get Dolby Atmos.

Every receiver/processor can upmix legacy 5.1 or 7.2 and place sound above in the height speakers to give you a pseudo 3D sound. Some receivers also have auro-3D upmixing that is supposedly better than Dolby upmixing or Neural X upmixing.

Hard truth: PS5 is terrible for streaming, especially for Plex or for any other high bit rate streaming. Look it up. Use any other hardware or just apps on your tv.

@magnoliamo sony think I might of sorted now. Watched another video and there is another settings menu when you play a disc. Three dots then change from pcm to bitstream. Will try tomorrow

@@2377shortie the basic audio settings do not apply to blu ray discs. Thats a completely seperate menu. They are independant of one another. You can change one without affecting the other.
