Ive always been a home theater in a box person but i feel like my speakers should be hidden to better conceal my sound while gettin the full effect but i feel sound bars are just to replace the standard factory tv speakers whereas HTIAB was designed to better increase and enhance your sound quality and performance thats why dolby has the Atmos capable sss (surround sound system)

Hey Caleb, I’ve been into surround sound and home theater since before there was even a such thing as surround sound receivers. Back then we bought out board surround processors and hooked them up to stereo amps. I remember back in the late 80s there were high end boutique audio shops all over the place where I live in NY. Since then all of them have closed and we have a few Best Buy stores that have magnolia showrooms but even that stuff isn’t as esoteric as the older stores. I have kept my system from basic old surround in the 80s to 5.1.4 atmos now. I do not know anybody in my life that has a home theater system. I’ve met other enthusiasts online but I don’t know anybody who has a home theater. Most people I know could care a less about sound. That being said I don’t think home theaters are going anywhere soon. I was 17 when I started this hobby and I’m 50 now. I’ve had laserdisc, supervhs, vhs, dvd, Blu-ray, and ultra 4K Blu-ray and I hope to see a couple more formats before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

The Adjust 3D Audio Profile has nothing to do with intensity. Each option is a HRTF profile that the user should select based on which one sounds best to them. It essentially adjusts the level of how high or low 3D audio sounds relative to ear level

I just picked up a new QN90B with a Bose 600 soundbar. Your tutorials are the best. You explain so many details of why things work they way they work. This is so helpful when applying settings to our specific rooms. Everyone views and plays in different settings with so many mixes of equipment. Yup, this all day. I run a full 7.2.4 atmos setup with ceiling speakers. Once you have a setup like this, you can’t go back. I also have a set of pulse explore earbuds that I use just for party chats. I just have one earbud in for chats. 👍🏼

Bad info on choosing DD5.1 or DTS. LPCM is the correct choice as DD and DTS cause audio delay and are lossy. Blu-ray audio playback is handled separately, so you get the best of both worlds.

Interesting, I've actually found that DTS gives no idea delay for me and pcm gives me a little bit. DD gives me alot of delay though. But I actually prefer using DTS now.

Yes. LPCM should be selected. For E-ARC connection to AVR, have to select "Passthrough" instead of "Auto" for it to output 7.1 PCM, at least for my PS4 Pro and LG C9.

Can agree, its been like that when I got my ps5 in December and it's still the same now. I upgraded to a new dolby atmos soundbar for the ps5 specifically and neither dolby nor dts provides synchronized audio. It's not a game thing either, the menu button presses already have this delay

For me after a lot of test and errors, finally the perfect sound was to enable the AV enhancement and changing the sound type to DTS, I was playing FF16 and was having a hard time hearing stuff, and now everything sounds crystal clear with a sound bar and without one. Give it a try if you experience some lost audios in-game.

I'm very happy with the sound on the Ps5, got it hooked to a Samsung Q950T Atmos soundbar and it sounds pretty awesome. During gaming i cannot tell if there's a difference to how it sounds to my Series X, however the 4k bluray player on the Ps5 destroys the one on the Series X, it's quicker, smoother, sharper and reveals more detail and last but not least it sounds fuller. Well done on this one Sony.

So I have a Vizio Elevate soundbar, but that's a full 5.1 surround sound system. The only way to get the speaker channel options on the PS5 is to select AV Amplifier as the speaker set up. Would you recommend using that option or the Soundbar option for soundbars that have surround speakers and a sub?

Thanks for the video. I have a Samsung qn95a tv with a q800a soundbar and tv supports pass through and Dolby atmos toward the soundbar. Now that they’ve enabled 3d audio also for tv/soundbar but only with linear pcm, would you still suggest me to use Dolby (even if it is not Dolby atmos)? And between Dolby and DTS which is the best? Btw, when I’m playing alone without friends I usually use a pair of Steelseries Arctis 7p headphones which sounds great and I think it is the most immersive way of playing on Ps5.

Hi Caleb, and thanks for the good video. I have a TCL R635, PS5, Vizio M 5.1, and Arctis Steel series wireless. All good, however sometimes when I play the sound will stop in my headphones and go to the controller or TV soundbar, then after a minute or so, comes back to the headphones. Its maddening! LOL. I will double check all my settings again and cable routing. I believe its all the same as how you did it. If you or a fellow user have any insights they would be greatly appreciated. If you’re using the usb 3.0 ports on the back for your steelseries usb transmitter, try moving it to the front usb 2.0 port instead. There are know issues with the steelseries headsets and 3.0 ports transmitting too much heat to them. I’ve move the receiver to the front 2.0 port and haven’t had the issue re-occur ever since.

For audio format, you want to leave it to Linear PCM no matter the type of soundbar or speaker setup you have when it comes to video games. However, when watching a blu ray there’s a separate settings menu in which you’d want to switch the format to bitstream. HDTVTest made a video explaining this.

This is true in theory, but it only really applies if you have an Atmos setup. If you just have a 2.1 or 5.1 (or even a standard 7.1) setup, the best you'd get from bitstream is Dolby TrueHD or the DTS equivalent and those are, theoretically, audibly identical to a PCM stream. On the other hand, sometimes TrueHD has dialog normalization applied, so some might find that better and others might find it worse (though it is objectively different from the studio master). Perhaps more importantly, TVs like the LG C9 (and probably C8 and CX) have an audible lag when using bitstream from an HDMI source, so your audio will be about a second behind your video when using Dolby in particular. In that sense, it's arguably worse to use bitstream if a) you have an LG OLED TV and b) you're not using Atmos or DTS:X anyway.

@@Nunya.Bidness I can’t remember the exact link or article but I do remember reading directly from a game dev that linear PCM was the best setting to use for video games as their audio passthrough works different compared to what you’d be getting out of say a 4K UHD Blu Ray movie. I’d say just try out both and see which one sounds better to you with my experience being Linear PCM being much louder and more clear in games

I have a kick-ass BOSE soundbar with a separate wireless bass module. Sound is great for everything including gaming but the only way you can get 3D audio on the PS5 is with headsets which I don’t like to use. I’m hoping they come out with 3D support for other external audio devices soon.

But I do have another question for u…. I had everything set to dolby to at least get the 5.1 and I popped in bluray for Spider-Man into the spider verse which is DTS 5.1. But guess what? When the proper movie starts, there is ZERO sound unless fast forwarding at 1.5x. In order to get the audio to play I had to adjust the bluray option for audio from bitstream to linear pcm and then the DTS audio came out fine…. And that was with os5 audio format set to DTS…any clue why or if there’s a work around or something?

i have literally scoured the internet for hours upon hours and can not for the life of me get a solid answer. If you use virtual surround sound such as Dolby atoms, windows sonic, Astro mix amp exc. in the in game menu under audio settings what option should you use? stereo headphones or surround sound? Big fan of your channel. Just an error to correct. The only way to get 7.1 channel surround is to select Linear PCM. The DTS and Dolby formats in this scenario are only capable of up to 5.1 channels. So for the best surround sound if you have eARC or are connected directly to your soundbar/AVR, Linear PCM is the way to go.

Great video…u answered one of my questions which was should I set the hdmi device to soundbar (Vizio sb36514 5.14 Dolby Atmos soundbar system) or if I should set it to av receiver to do all the speaker set up. I have had in on soundbar and set to bitstream dolby and the 4k ultra he Blu-ray comes through great and the soundbar recognizes its dolby Atmos. But then last night I popped in a slightly older Blu-ray (Spider-Man into the spider verse) with DTS sound. And when I popped it in, the trailers played fine and the home music on the main menu of the Blu-ray played fine but then when I start the movie it self complete silence. UNTIL I changed via the BD eclipse menu FROM BITSTREAM TO LINEAR OVMc and THEN the sound worked and sounded great. But I don’t get why we would have to make that manual change based on the disc playing like what setting should it be on that will allow it to automatically recognize and put out whatever is playing at the time ??

I’m currently rocking a PS5 with my LG C9 and the Vizio 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos system. The sound system doesn’t support RGB HDR. Just Y422 and 420 formats. So I just disabled HDR and use RGB. Honestly, it’s perfectly fine. With the OLED picture the blacks are perfect and the color is fantastic. I switched back and forth from ARC pass through to TV just to see the difference in HDR and honestly HDR just crushes shadows for games on my C9. The picture is so dark. I actually prefer regular RGB. And with the pass through, the sound for games is AMAZING!! It completely changes the experience! But I’ll have to tinker with LPCM and Bitstream and see which I prefer... so good to know! 👍🏻

Me too if I enable HDR it doesn't go in rgb but in y420...I have an Oled too, so you say it's better to disable HDR but have RGB?

@@giorzatore if you’re using a system that’s only HDMI 2.0 capable, yes. RGB will give you full color vs Y422 or 420

Can you use such sound bar as an external speaker for running Spotify on my phone via WiFi without turning the TV on? I’m still hesitating between a good amp + 2 speakers or simply one sound bar for the TV, console and music listening (small room).

I think most decent soundbars will let you do that, although I would think that most use Bluetooth instead of WiFi.

I need help plz. Which settings do i need for samsung ms650 + rear speaker kit 5.1 capable. Do i set to soundbar or av reciever 5.1? Do i choose pcm or dolby ( no dts support via tv ). I plugged my ps5 into TV and soundbar via eArc into TV too.

In my setup I use and old but still awesome sony 5.1 home theater bdv_e2100 connected to a LG B9 (HDMI arc), and DTS bitstream output from the PS5, since the home theater doesn't support multichannel PCM, I only get stereo sound with that setting, that is why you need to use DTS (or dolby).

Thank you!!! I have a Dolby Atmos soundbar and I kept reading that Linear was better. When set to Dolby, it sounded much, much better. I had a very noticeable lag. I solved that by turning the “Pass through” ON, on my tv. My games sound great.

I tried that, it seems like it worked! I kept going back and forth between pcm and Dolby after setting the “ pass through “. Just to see if I noticed lag. I can’t even find the lag anymore and Dolby does sound better. 🤘🤘

Could it be that the soundbar treats passed through LPCM and Dolby with different presets (Standard, Music, Game, etc...) and that's where the difference that you hear is coming from?

how about Soundbars with rear speakers like the JBL Bar 9.1? if i select Soundbar it is only 2 channels. Can is select a AV for my 5.1 Setup with the soundbar?

I'm having issues with my headphones,the same ones I used on the ps4 now sound muffled on the ps5, and when I play games like COD I can't really hear the person until it's to late and when I do hear them they always sound like they are coming from the same direction. Any way to fix this??
