My method that has worked well. Hope it helps: - I put 90% into 1 & 10oz bars for long term investment/storage. Mostly 10s. - 10% into 1 & 2oz rounds, mostly desirable/collectable patterns, might get some appreciation and they sell a bit higher. Mostly 2s. - I keep two bars and a couple coins separate, designated for handling or showing or just when I get that urge to check them out. Everything else stays hermetically sealed and locked away. - I buy two or three times a year, try to time the market lows as best I can, and always purchase enough to get free shipping. - Rarely sell, but if it jumps over $30-35 like it did a few years back, I'll let a good bit go out of the 10z bar stack.

@alanpecherer57052 жыл бұрын
@@gossman75 What you say makes perfect sense, but we both know that doesn't mean it is "true". The problem, if you can call it that, is that (traditionally) it has been really hard to make much money dealing generic silver. I worked at a dealership selling silver and gold for a while (10 years ago) and it just became kind of silly, you'd sell $27,000 worth of silver and there was maybe $200 profit in it. Since it's so hard to make money selling generic silver, it stands to reason that some dealers will ask more for special designs. If silver is $22 and any old generic round is $26 and an eagle is $30, this is not the way it was say 5 or more years ago. It used to be common for dealers to sell 1 oz rounds for a buck or a buck and change over spot. And that wasn't a "special, it was everyday pricing. Then, maybe it was 2 years ago, this big smelly shortage allegedly occurred and all of a sudden, gen rounds and 5/10 and even 100 oz bars had a $4 or even $5 premium. It hasn't gone back to "a buck over spot", as I am sure you've noticed. Along the same lines, it has always been common for Englehard or J-M bars to sell at "noticeable" premium over generics. And this was true even when both of those refiners offered product, which neither do right now. Why should that be the case? It's because dealers can get away with it, and I am not disparaging dealers...it's not an easy business. Heck, if someone loves Barry Manilow and will pay $35 for a generic round with his image on it, why shouldn't some dealer or mint have a batch made and try to sell them? People pay $300 for Michael Jordan Nike sneakers, maybe they think those sneakers will allow them to jump a foot higher or maybe they think they are honoring MJ's record by buying them. I couldn't tell you. Tell you what, if there was a rapper known for gold chains and you could sell gold chains for 140% of what the chain would cost elsewhere, I say go for it. That said, do I prefer J-M bars to Sunshine Mint bars? You bet I do. Would I pay 120% for it? Probably not. Would I pay 105% for it? I might.

I think this really shows the two different schools of thought for stacking. The 1oz people are probably the ones stacking for the eventual need to barter. The 10oz people are the ones planning on investing and being able to trade back into dollars at some point.

Even though this is mainly about investing, another thing to take into account is if things go bad and you move from investor to survivor and need to use it for commerce you're going to want a good mix of lower sizes because if you show up and try to buy a chicken with a 10 oz bar you may not get change. Lastly, government reporting is required on transactions over a certain amount so if you buy a bunch of 100 oz bars below the required reporting number and then sell it your sale will be reported whereas if you have small bars you could break up your sales over days or dealers and be under that number and not be reported.

For somebody who seems to be hung up on premiums it’s interesting how you reference SD bullion as they are not the most reasonably priced.

10 oz is the best for me just because the price is right for incremental investments

I bought a 10 oz Mint ID Buffalo silver bar encrypted . When scanned it tells the details about it. There’s a smartphone app NFC that even shows a pic of it. It’s amazing. $178.93

I prefer 10 oz. Large enough to see a discount, but easy to move and store.

Back in 2015, I bought a bunch of 1 gram bars for far below spot. Keep looking. There are deals out there if you try.

Nice video! An easy way evaluate pricing on kilo bars, is to get the spot price in grams and multiply by 1,000.

I like the 7.3 oz bar because when they cut your bar in half to see if it's real they gotta buy it.

5 oz bars fit in my melt crucible and don’t cost extra premium. 100 oz also have low premiums and is useful for self defense.

Not a big bar fan...never have been. Not sure why! Mostly rounds and coins for me. I do have a few bars...a few 10 oz "P loaf" Engelhards and some Geiger. Of course, Geiger only comes in bars, or more accurately squares (mostly), so I have a few more of those. I have recently picked up some more bars however when I saw that during the pandemic, bars were sold out almost immediately. I thought it would be good to get some more in the stack (nothing over 10 oz) because of that, but not my preferred items to buy. Nice comparisons and great video SD.

Kilo is really an even number if you used to the metric system. I like 1oz, 5 oz and 10 oz bars. Also here in Europe 100 gram bars are popular !

Today was the first day I went to my local coin shop to buy and start stacking silver. I got a couple dollars in face value of constitutional silver, 2 1oz bars and 10 1g bars. After seeing this video now, I feel lucky that I got the 1g bars for $1 each.

I think the Kilo bar is the best. Assuming we go back to gold to silver ratio of 1:8, 4oz gold to 32oz silver (1kilo)
@coreytaylor201710 ай бұрын
I would say you want a variety. Just like we have pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters, you would want a variety of sizes in the event you would like or need to purchase items that vary in price. The only thing that stinks is the smaller you go, the higher premium you pay. So if you can buy bulk, I think it would be fun and cheaper to cast the small bullion yourself.

We in 2024 and a 10oz bar of silver is now about $375-$400. Yes I have to get on my silver game asap. I don’t want to miss the next big boat. Peace and Love Brooklyn NYC…

1 oz bars or rounds. I’ve sold some 10 oz. But it was easier to sell the 1 oz. I sell them on either eBay or marketplace or to coworkers or acquaintances. I would like to add that I prefer to stack 10oz. My dealer a dear old fella offered to sell me 100 oz. But I stayed away it was just too much. Also buying in bulk buying 100 rounds or bars 1oz gets you cheaper deals. Little more affordable.

PLEASE HELP!!!! I live in Canada and want to buy some silver. I appreciate your videos to help ppl like me understand a little bit more on how to stack. Currently today spot is $24 CAD for 1 oz. The site I was gonna buy from has 1oz generic coins for $31 or $7 over spot. I can get britanias for $33 or $9 over spot and maples for $34 or $10 over spot. That seems to be very high for a premium so was just asking your opinion if you think that's a reasonable price over spot. Thanks and see you next video

Id like to invest in silver, but the premiums are so damn high, my intention is to never sell my PM and pass it on, but I still keep into consideration DP+T=TP. Dealer premium+taxes= total premium. And if I'm taking all that in, I'm paying twice over for what I'm getting. Just can't justify it. Only way I can justify it is by the kilo, thanks for the video. Very Informative 👍👍

Thats about the only increment I haven't purchased. I don't have a kilo, or 100oz bar. My biggest is a 25oz 20mm bullet replica, otherwise, 10oz, rounds and generics, and junk.

The huge 1,000 Oz. industrial size bars are rarely seen outside of heavy industrial users. But there are a few "Investors" that used to stockpile the 100 oz. bars, way back when silver was less then abour ten bucks an ounce. Today? I see folks buying the 1 oz. coins, the 5 or 10 oz. bars, and rarely the 100 oz. INGOTS. But almost never anything bigger.

so glad i bought 100's already getting killed with silver but it hurts less than paying 60% premiums like some people

1oz as you’d only need to give or take a few in losses and bartering but 10 ounce is also ideal those two are a good investment I’d say cause if things get low and you need to sell a few you can sell the 1 oz

Looking on SD Bullion today and the 100g silver bars are going for 104. Wow! That seems like the better deal than stacking 1 oz

I like 10oz, they seem to be the weight I find a reasonable bulk rate start to actually appear...of course that savings gets higher with the weight, but 10oz is affordable to the average person to be able to get on a reasonable schedule

What are your thoughts on 2oz coins for stacking? I see on the TD site that the 2oz coins are cheaper (per oz of silver) than 1oz coins or 10oz bars. Also, I overheard someone selling a 100oz bar at the local bullion shop last week, and when I researched their site 10-10oz generic bars were worth more than the 100oz bar when selling to them, and about equal buying from them.
@samuelcatoe19273 жыл бұрын
I buy for investment purposes. Whichever is cheapest per the ounce and in my budget gets my money. I also keep reselling in mind though so if it doesn't sell well in my area, I'm not a buyer. That means the kilo and 100 oz bars are out since they're difficult to move.
@patrickmurphy82223 жыл бұрын
I like and stack 2 oz coins and old pours (I have only one of those so far). Two oz coins seem to be more rare and, to me, more interesting. They are bigger without being too big. I have never seen a 2 oz coin at a coin shop ever so I think they would move really well if they did happen to carry them.

I still would like to get a 1000oz comex bar for savings. They can be leveraged, so no need to sell it. Thats the only advantage I can think of over other bars. I think 100oz is my favorite, but 10oz is a close second. Ddi I understand you correctly when you eluded that the premium is about the same for the 5oz as the 10oz? I would think that aspect would GREATLY enhance the utility of the 5oz bars. I may need to keep my eye out for 5 oz deals. I only have 1-5oz bar right now. Love the vid SD! Well done! :-)

5 & 10 oz. for trade. 100 oz. for buying homes and larger investments. But only after you’ve acquired 1000’s of 1 oz. coins.
