@@riseandalpine Yo man, love the vids. There's another mountain called mt. Baldy located just 1 hour away from Los Angeles. If you're ever in town I highly recommend it. It's got a really similar vibe to this place. Real laid back, excellent tree skiing and if you time it just right after a good dump of snow, endless powder.

Man, as someone who normally shreds in the (often overcrowded) powder paradise that is Northern Utah's Wasatch Range, I really need to make it to BC. Love how many backwoods mountains you folks have and having grown up riding in the Upper Midwest (Wisconsin/UP of Michigan), kind of gives me similar backwoods vibes but on actual mountains. Here's my BC bucketlist as a powder hound who loves both glades and bigger mountain stuff. Let me know if I'm off-base here. Obviously would never get to all these spots, unless I become independently wealthy/employed and can just travel freely: 1.) Red Mountain (esp. on a big pow day), for the local vibe and awesome terrain and trees. 2.) Revelstoke for the insane vertical + terrain. Kill the Banker looks awesome right under the lift. 3.) Kicking Horse for the otherworldly big-mountain terrain that'll make me contemplate death, lol. 4.) Whitewater for those insanely snowy glades and proximity to Nelson. 5.) Terrace/Smithers - for a bit more remote experience with awesome early-season snow. 6.) Big White - wanna ride in those sweet snow ghost forests. 7.) Fernie - looks like a legit destination resort. 8.) Mt. Washington + other local spot on Vancouver Island (seems like their time is limited with climate change making it too warm). 9.) Cypress + Grouse - just to ride above Vancouver and see the ocean/sound. 10.) Whistler - last on the list because it's owned by Vail and I absolutely loathe big crowds. Everything else looks spectacular though.

It's a long drive but a sweet option. Big White and Sun Peaks are also awesome. Busier than baldy but much larger in terms of terrain. They also have little villages and restaurant options post ski day. Big White has more steep terrain than Sun Peaks, but Sun Peaks gets more sunshine. Silverstar is cool too!

Red in Rossland is another secret. Big mountain with lots of POW. Locals especially on the Hill are very Narcissistic but ignore them avoud the bars etc and enjoy

Red is such a blast. Lined up a big pow day there last year and it was awesome! There's always amazing locals at all mountains, but, negative people exist everywhere. You get used to ignoring them at Whistler especially LOL

how was the road driving up to the mountain? a regular FWD sedan with winter tires is good enough? would you recommend carrying chains?
@riseandalpine8 ай бұрын
Unless there is a mega storm you should have no problem but i'd always recommend carrying chains especially with just FWD.

Yo, way to show off the smaller resorts, can be great terrain and less traffic. Less lines and no skied out terrain makes up for slower chairs and the drive.

James would you consider doing ski technique videos?
@riseandalpine9 ай бұрын
I totally could! Would need to get someone filming me for a day which can be tricky sometimes. What kind of techniques would you be keen to learn?

Baldy seems like the absolute dream!!! How long would it take to drive there from Vancouver?
@danielhoran19109 ай бұрын
As a local who used to live in Vancouver it's about a 5 hour drive but in prime season it would be sooo worth it you should define check it out!
@riseandalpine9 ай бұрын
Ya 5 hours is about right. Not bad at all considering it takes me 4 hours to get home from Whistler in traffic most days hahahaa
