Great to see you back! On my ‘20 Speed Twin I have Tec Bike Parts X-pipe, Motone Saturn V silencers and a DNK tune. I agree 100% with the results you noticed. I will say it really woke up the mid-range where peak torque comes in. What a beast! But it did sap some MPHs from the top end. Don’t care though, as I don’t (often) feel the need to go that fast.

Thanks! Interesting to hear that you lost a bit of top speed. I am running a smaller rear sprocket now, so maybe that evened things back out for me.

Very good! The Speed Twin sounds awesome with the X pipe with the Akra's. Now with the DNK tune, sweet! I got Arrow slip on's with DNK tune. I have TuneEcu so I did the mapping myself. Top speed on the Thruxton, 135mph. Congrats on the upgrade!

I really would like to get my hands on the V&H pipes. I prefer the look of those better. I'm working on stripping my Chain Reaction Moto cans that I kept from my 09 Speed Twin . Then to find a person to weld an adapter. They're already paid for and were hanging on my garage wall. Happy to hear you got that 'sound' you were after!!

I'm running Vance & Hines exhausts with Motone X Pipe and K&N air filter on my Thruxton R 1200, and it sounds so amazingly nice! I have left the tuning part out for now and the ECU adapts to the mods quite well for what I need. The pops and crackles are so addictive man. I have the Ducati spacers installed but dont feel much difference.

Great video highlighting the changes! Have a similar set of exhaust mods on my Scrambler 1200 XC. Free Spirits H Pipe to decat, high flow air filter, British Custom’s Shotgun Exhaust, and I love the sound it makes. I haven’t sprung for the DNK Tune yet, as I letting the bike’s ECU adjust itself on startup has met my needs so far. Also check out a Ducati throttle spacer mod which tightened up some throttle free play for me.
@VanBlamm11 ай бұрын
Thanks! I've got the Ducati spacers in and they made Sport mode usable, but Road mode is still the right balance of responsiveness and smoothness for me. I bet that Scrambler sounds wicked!

Congratulations on the sweet exhaust!! Thats a STEAL of a deal on the Akra, I have to say I had sticker shock when I saw the $1400 MSRP for SLIP-ONS! Its suprising to hear it runs hotter unless its just due to added fuel. Or did the tune set the Fan Temp to come on sooner? They usually do that in tunes for the FZ07. In the icy cold salty winter seasons of Illinois, its channels like yours and Moto Scout that help ease the itch to ride as I ride vicariously through your visor. Im so excited to see you posting again and can't wait for more. You put out genuinely entertaining, well shot, and edited videos that kindled my interest in the Speed Twin. Would you consider a "long term review" video now that you've got a substantial chunk of miles on it as a daily rider? Very curious overall cost and reliability outside of your premature battery. Have you done valves yet?
@VanBlamm11 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! If I hadn't come across that deal on the Akras, I likely would have gone with British Customs or V&H in the end. Maybe Zard. I've tried a few times to write a script for a long-term review, but it always fizzles out, because almost everything in it is stuff I've already said over the years. Maybe after I've had the 20K valve job I might have something new to report.

Was wondering if you still had the speed twin. Unlikely that I'll sell my 2019 speed twin. Did everything the first and second year: decat, british customs gp exhaust, direct air intact, british customs m bars, dnk tuneworks, corbin gunslinger seat, baak side plates, rizoma turn signals (rewired), custom leather goodies, adjustable foot pegs, bar end side mirrors, british front fender license plate (slicer), triumph fork brace, ceramic brake pads, ohlins rear adjustable shocks, andriani front adjustable shocks, blackout display on the speedometer/tachometer, and more that can't recall. It's been fun learning how to do myself, including all maintenance and installation. Enjoy. If I were to buy another bike, that yellow street triple looks sweet.

Did you try "retuning" by letting the bike idle for ~15 minutes/until the rad fan kicks on, then restarting it? I did that on my Scrambler after decatting and it made a very noticeable difference, making the bike run and idle much smoother. I'm guessing between the exhaust and air filter mods you made, the auto-retune might not have been enough though.
@VanBlamm11 ай бұрын
I did, and it helped a little bit at idle, but not when cruising with just a light load on the throttle, which is where it was running the roughest.
@joeyiacona10 ай бұрын
I was wondering same thing. VH slipons, BC xpipe, dna air filters on my 2018 speedmaster. Just did the 12 minute tune and 2500 miles later still really smooth. Been wondering if any real benefit in the dnk tune for the money… my exhaust gas is definitely more pungent in smell and visible then it was before…

Awesome video! Question about the euro 5 models. I have a 2023 t100 and heard about the cat being welded. So did you mean the header pipes would need to go too so basically an enttire new system if i do a decat? Thanks in advance!
@VanBlamm11 ай бұрын
Thanks! As far as I'm aware, nothing is welded to the headers, so you can keep those. You'd need an x-pipe, mid pipes, and slip-ons if you wanted to eliminate all three cats.

How about the law? What happens if you get stopped by the police? Also do motorcycles not get called in for inspection few years apart where you live? Just wondering.
@VanBlamm11 ай бұрын
I don't know of any regulations against this where I live. It's not as loud as the average Harley, so I don't expect to draw any unwanted attention. I probably couldn't register the bike in California though, due to emissions standards. My state does require an annual safety inspection, but they only check lights, signals, horn, tires, and brakes, not emissions.
