They made a lot of supras. It’s just that they had multiple different engines and transmission options at the time. And the manual twin turbo supras are the ones that happened to be made the less amount and clean condition of those cars are worth upper 100k. Although the Supra market is weird in that it actually favors mods and modded supras bring a premium. So you could have had an automatic NA car and with proper mods those cars are still worth 70-80k. Stock NA automatic Supras are like 20-30k today. It’s really only the twin turbo stick cars that are favored to be stock.

Try again. Late 60's, those cars were badass!! Easy to work on and power houses. It's all preference but imo nothing is cooler than the late 60's cars. 90's made some sweet rides but with what you can do today as far as suspension and handling those old V8's are just too cool man.

Toyota didn’t even use the 2j in the Castro Supra off the 90s. Car was getting spanked until they used the beams motor. Far from the best platform out there, neither car or engine. They’re great but far from the top.

The chassis itself isn’t really a competition chassis it’s more of a sport touring car. 2jz holds 0 records in anything and have and the a80 Supra holds 0 records and minuscule amount of championships. Most of which the car didn’t even have a 2j. 7m beams 1uz holds most of the a80 Supra wins.

The V160/V161 is an awesome gearbox. Just crazy the price they've gone and parts supply isn't there. I've had my JZX100 about 12 years and would never sell it. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it

Fun fact the manual transmission in the supra is also what dodge called the ax15. In toyota language it's known as the r151, the actual toyota trans in the supra is the r153. Same family line up. Only difference was 1 extra gear and a different output shaft spline count.

That’s crazy to think about the whining of the supercharger is causing regular harmonic vibration which degrades the metal. We used to machine parts for rock crushers in this old shop in Milwaukee the owner made me toss a $80 piece of steel because I ran a tool too hard or fed the bar too fast and it picked up a ringing noise and he hears it from the office and comes out cuts the lathe off and goes ‘it’s junk buddy you wrecked it’

Also keep in mind that these legendary JDMs, the Supra, GTR, RX7, Evo, were all rated from the factory at 276 hp because of a gentleman's agreement between the companies. In reality, almost all of them were pushing 300 hp or above depending on the model. The factory Mark 4 Supra was dynoed at 336 hp. Nearly 60 hp more than advertised. These cars were the best bang for your buck HP deals of that time.

@LilFoxAK its the Chevrolet 250 engine, the 4.1l I6, with little money put into it you could easily get 750BHP out of it, with still little money and little to no internal work you could get it to push over 2k BHP in a car that based on the Opel's from Germany was significantly lighter in weight, pushing the Power to weight ratio even higher

People talk about it because the design is beyond its capabilities. If you said it's average because of the low power out of the factory, then you're right. But the design is capable of putting double the power, just on the stock engine alone is why it got praise to this day. Plus the car can do track, unlike any old american car that focuses on drag racing. So it's not comparable.

Bubble era Japanese cars. Unfortunately when the Supra first came out, Japan is already in recession. Even for the average Japanese, this car is still expensive in the 1990's. 86mm bore and 86mm stroke, even in NA form, the 2JZ still gives decent output.

The original turbo charged ones were meant to be released at around 650bhp but they were de tuned to around 300… that’s why they can easily withstand 1000hp with stock internals… they were built to be 650 from factory please know your shit
