I've been running the Presidio Command BC for years (and now with the Ahwahnee pets) and love it. Very similar in layout and function to these you recommended.

The 2 ships that i mainly use right now are the Legendary Akira and the Legendary Odyssey class with the last hope for the Empire trait equiped with 2 science, 2 tactical and 1 engineering. I play on the advanced difficulty and other when i did the Iconian arc i never had my hull health drop below 50% due to the traits bonus when using beam overload etc. They arent the best for damage (i utilise Antiproton that my most powerful beam array tops out at around 1000-1200 damage

First thing i found with tanking compared to other games is how important damage is from the perspective of aggro. I built myself a very survivable ship, dropped FAW on it only to find not only did I never die, I mainly never died because the DPS got aggro and died instead. I was invincible but had little to no damage output to hold aggro. The 'tank stance' abilities in this game (attract fire) are very poor without decent damage to back it up! As for ships I run the lego verity, fun ship.

Yeah, it's not easy nor cheap to build a survivable tank with enough damage output to pull sufficient aggro on Elite. But Ba'ul Antiproton weapons with the Lobi Ba'ul 3 pice set can help a lot in that regard. Also the ion storm console from the Buran is pretty much a must to boost up your aggro output to sufficient levels. What can be key here is teammates buffing up the tank's DPS like with the Ahwanee console and the Flagship tactical computer. Having +150% - 200% firing cycle haste greatly helps. Also utilizing the DR debuff capabilities of the Ahwanee's type 7 shuttles if your ship has a hangar bay or someone else is flying them. That said, i've built me the Legendary Command Dreadnought Cruiser Odyssey into a serviceable Elite tank with all the above and i have little problems drawing enough aggro while being nigh unkillable with a Ba'ul Antiproton FAW build. Just fly right into the middle of the enemies and start blasting, keeping that Ion Storm up to really piss them off. If you have a high end DPSer with you, he should be able to kill them quickly enough to not die while i support him with Suppression Barrage 3.

Well we know in really good builds the BOFF seating is very key if the ship becomes really good or not long term.

Another reson for the Kiwavi apart from the speed aspect was it synergy with Starship trait Cold Hearted from Breen Plesh Tral Heavy Raider which is another source of debuffing, which activating Auxiliary Power to Emergency Battery or any Pilot Bridge Officer Ability will cause your energy weapons to afflict foes with a debuff which Slows, Drains Power, and reduces Damage Resistance Rating. Nic on your Kiwavi build are you using Redirecting Arrays cause with no torps you can't use ETM.

Yeah it was setup originally for torpedo runs so didn’t want to still the cfp procs and running redirecting is just easier then having to manually fire as a tank

I run the Voth Rampart as my tank. Until the 14th annni, i ran the elite support frigates because they have SB3 at elitte level. Now that i can have the type 7 shuttles, it runs so much better. AB3 combined with my SB3 and SAD is insane.

i hope you can review a special tank to me ! the Original command battlecruisers ! KDF science version ( has more hull ratio) !! it has the +15%crtD mastery package of battlecruiser + attract fire ( no other battlecruiser has attract fire)! and gets 1 hangar pet slot ( old bonus of command full spec that got removed from newer command ships). a really unique kind of ship

Im using the command Concorde , I can tank just about everything in Advanced, and do a good deal of damage as well (ba,ul) the only time I got blown up is soloing the Gre,Thor boss on Advance . Edit I did make to get suppression barrage which helps.

Personally I'd leave the GW to a dedicated science ship with massive control. 500+ ctrl. If you let the tank do it, it'll always be a compromise. Unless it's a science tank.

Say, what do you think of the Ahwanee as a tank? It has a high hull mod, full command/SCI seating and can run 2 pet hangars for both the Type 7 shuttle debuffs and support frigates for SupBarrage3. Only thing limiting is the 3/3 weapons layout meaning it won't do that much DPS for drawing aggro and it's rather slow and drifty to move being a carrier. Also no attract fire.

You basically mention every reason that I would, but if you say run a team defensive console like sif linkage and then turn the tide in more dangerous situations you could make it work

Hey, I have been looking at the justiciar ship for a while as it looks awesome and your build video was great. If I get this ship from the c-store, I assume I am able to upgrade to the fleet version or is it a completely different ship from the c store version that you get some where else in game?

Kelvin Command cruiser was my first tank and I've had it for years, and ya because of the cost, still running it on a Kelvin themed toon despite now having the Styx, Buran, or Sirius for other tank toons. It may not be the best but if there is any role the Kelvinprise should be taking in STO, tanking is the one. Getting shot up is what it did best in the films 😄, so it's lore-accurate.

Cool list. Still struggling with the thought of changing out the styx pets but I guess more debuff = more team damage which > more suppression barrage. . I'd like it if you cropped your browser window a bit in the edit so the tabs disappear, then each new item shown would be a surprise!

Love these vids. Gives a lot of great info for folk looking to get into different areas of build types. Tanking isn’t something I’ve done yet but this vid has given me more information on what to look for in a potential ship. I've found lots of these "Best tank ships" and not once has anyone agreed on 1 singular ship. 1 says the Styx,1 says the Justicar,1 says this ship, etc lol.

I wouldn’t say there’s a 100% best overall ship, people have different needs and wants that affect the decision
