Just bought a used 2018 M3 LR AWD with only 12k miles on it for $21k. It had the FSD computer installed and the acceleration boost on top of that. Premium white interior and premium audio system. Only financed $19.5 which is absolutely insane compared to the $43k that we spent on our first M3 that now had over 145k miles on it. Best purchase I've made in a long time.

I've had my model 3 for four years, in the last six months i've had to have wiring harnesses replaced 3 times due to 'rodent damage' despite no other vehicles on my property are impacted. if Tesla can't solve, this is a dealbreaker. i'm trading mine in for an ICE vehicle.

Just bought a 2019 M3 w/77k miles. It needs some reconditioning (oil pump, new tires, removal of a ton of fake carbon fiber) but it's still a fraction of buying or leasing new Tesla and cheaper 3 year TCO compared to similarly appointed used gas powered Toyotas.
@williamgrunzweig57115 күн бұрын
That's not half bad honesty. The oil pumps that helps to keep the electric motor cool is very inexpensive. At 77k miles and that's the extent of maintenance, that's a drop in the buck compared to an ICE. By 77k, you would need spark plugs, several engine oil changes, possible valve cover gaskets, transmission service, new brakes, maybe O2 sensors...lord what else? Oh, serpentine belt replacement maybe. Possible other belts needing replacing. That is thousands of dollars vs the approximate 200-dollar part you appear to need. Talk about a steal.

But your battery will be out of warranty in the next 30k miles
@cedartreeworkshop15 күн бұрын
@@LaSirene23 That's a risk of owning any car. Gas/Diesel powered engines can (and do) grenade after 50k miles not covered under most car warranties - it costs about the same amount to replace a new engine in a gas car as a new battery for a Tesla. Not too concerned about it. Considering I have any warranty at all up to 120k is peace of mind enough for me.
@cedartreeworkshop15 күн бұрын
@@williamgrunzweig571 Exactly! I did all of that many times over on my old Camry. Paid for the car three times over with all the repairs it needed over the years.

I have a M3 and the FSD Supervised is useless. Its good enough to just start feeling comfortable with it and then it does something completely stupid. To any future buyers, continue to skip FSD. As for the M3 as a car, spectacular. I will be moving into a Y shortly as an update to my 2022 model. But will still skip the FSD.
@inediblenut16 күн бұрын
I try out the FSD every time it is offered as a demo to current owners (like this month) and I have to agree with you. It gets better every time, but still doesn't justify the high price. Maybe if I wasn't retired and drove more often it would make sense.

Unfortunately my 2019 Model 3 (Mid-Range) battery is sitting now at about 20% degredation. 77k miles total and only about 204 miles at a 100% charge. I have always used good charging practices, so this is pretty upsetting, but silver lining is maybe I'll get a warranty battery replacement soon.

I looked for a gas SUV for my step son and couldn't find anything new the performance of the Model Y in that same price. Even the Equinox has no engine upgrade now and only makes 175hp. If you can deal with an EV the Model Y is the way to go.

The main reason for the rapid depreciation of EVs in the US is that the governments $7,500 rebate comes right off the value the moment you take delivery, because you pocket that money. I think if you deduct that from the initial value before you do the depreciation calculation, Teslas are comparable to other cars. My Model Y with 15k miles is worth about 20% less than what I paid for it, after the rebate. That doesn't seem too bad to me.

I think the biggest concern of a used tesla is getting a failed battery out of warranty with it's exceptionally his cost to replace - especially compared to the likely lower depreciated cost of the used car itself. It becomes a major gamble. I'm looking for a used tesla myself currently and that is my biggest fear. High insurance costs are my 2nd biggest concern. Early Model S also had chronically bad rear performance engines (fluid leaking into the engine) which are also expensive to replace and it just seems near impossible to know what is going to be a concern or not.

You have to consider oil changes and other maintenance they talk you into while you are there. My Tesla Model 3 hasn't required any maintenance in almost 4 years and over 30k miles of usage. Even the tires lasted 1/3 longer than the same tire did on my old Cadillac ATS. For many drivers maintenance on ICE cars is unexpected and they don't budget for it so it really puts them in a bind when it's needed.

Sorry, but Tesla sales are going to crash totally, especially here in Europe after Elon going to bed with Trump. No democrat or European will buy these cars going forward. And if Trump goes ahead with the tariffs on Chinese EVs, I guess China will respond in a similar fashion with huge tariffs on U.S. affiliated car brands, and might forbid the sale of Tesla cars completely in China. Looking forward to seeing the numbers on Tesla sales here in Europe.
