The stylus using a AAAA battery keeps the price down since it doesn’t need a charging circuit & rechargeable battery. Amazon says battery lasts about 6 months. The Apple Pencil that charges wirelessly (2nd gen) costs $129. For a tablet at this price, I understand the trade off. The $329 iPads only support the non-wireless charging Pencil (extra $99), and keyboard is extra. Microsoft 365 support & Echo Show mode are bonuses. The main issue is that the FireOS app store is smaller.

Unlike Windows, FireOS doesn’t chew up a lot of RAM. iPad Pro models didn’t have more than 4GB until recently. It works with Microsoft (Office) 365, has keyboard & stylus for under $400, & a microSD slot. It’s a Chromebook, iPad competitor for those in the Amazon ecosystem, it’s not a $1K PC replacement.

I feel like if they leaned heavily into the productivity side this could be a decent tablet solution for a lot of on the go jobs or even in education. The thing that blew me away was the quality of the camera you demonstrated. Studio lighting or not I've seen some pretty potato quality footage come from higher priced tablets... so that was impressive. Glad to see they haven't given up the fight and are still innovating and improving and at a killer price point.

Its part of the compromise, they used to make it impossible to install play store but then they just one day stopped blocking it and it was as simple as installing like 3 apks. Them forking android allows them to not have to deal with google or follow some of the stupid rules. I will happily pay less and need to install play store manually haha

Yeah, for Android it hogs RAM like a mofo so bare minimum should be 6GB or 8GB on budget/mid-range Android devices. Most $200-300 Android phones have 8GB of RAM nowadays (unless you live in the US where budget phones suck ass compared to other countries).

I mean you literally can't watch KZbin on a dedicated KZbin app or go on discord or do like anything you would really want to do on any of Amazon's tablets. Seeing how terrible these budget tablets are and how limited Amazon makes them while badgering you with ads constantly on your lock screen and a home screen and everywhere else made me really want to just save up for a legitimate tablet which I did. It doesn't really matter how good the hardware is if the software and operating system are absolute dog crap. Period. Serious waste of money.

I got the samsung tab and it has been my go to comic and manga reader. it can even handle a few of the games i like, though personally i prefer gaming on pc and don't like playing on the go so i don't use my tablet for that. but i would say the tab has been great for me and its a fairly open bootlauncher so its not too hard to put a custom android rom on it if you don't like samsung's default os and interface, or like me want a more private android experience;

The problem: Amazon's flavor or android, is horrible, I side loaded the play store in the 8inch fire tablet that I got from a pot-head a few years ago for $20 and still was a nigthmare, spent a bit more and got a Lenovo Tab 4 8 inch and was lovely, 5 years later my girlfriend still uses it for media and my mom threw the Fire 8 into a cabinet and never heard of it again, I'm ashamed to ask her for it since is so bad and would be of no use, the only good thing is the case, woa, what an amazing case, that is the only thing amazon did right with those tablets

I am really interested in getting one of these. I have been wanting a portable drawing device combo tablet and always find they are WAY overpriced. At sub $400 for the complete package at 128g storage, you cannot beat it. They really did take it to the Max!

For drawing, I’d look into what the OS & apps compatible with the stylus can do. You may be better off with a $329 iPad & $99 Apple Pencil. Which device you should get depends a lot on the software & ecosystem. This tablet works with Microsoft 365, and works as an Echo show, but the FireOS app store is smaller.

The worst electronic I've ever purchased was Kindle fires for our kids. WORST ever! Santa brought them junk, so I ended up having to trade Santa for iPads. Thanks Santa!
