Fun fact, this type of washer has been around for more than 70 years. I had a slightly larger one once from the sixties. I now have one of the newer ones. They are all basically the same, just different sizes and prices to suit any situation.

I've had mine for a couple of years, now & it does ALL my laundry EXCEPT for comforters & floor rugs. Those are best left for the laundromat gigantic machine. Here are a couple of tips. I'm 5' 10" so never ever wash more than 1 pair of pants at a time, or else you'll have 3700 knots that only a sailor can undo. I have invested in some mesh garment bags & those are a game changer! My "full" load consists of 1 pair of pants (or a skirt), 1 pair of shorts & 4 shirts OR two pillow cases with flat & fitted queen sized sheets. My machine sits snugly on 4 cinder blocks right next to my shower for easy drainage & I use my hand held shower head to fill. A full wash with two rinses & two spin cycles takes me 35 minutes. Start to finish.
@JoannaRoxanne3 жыл бұрын
This is SO helpful!!! Thank you!! Yess! Bigger loads like comforters are definitely not good with these.. because of the size. I'm also happy to hear that yours has lasted for yrs. I hope that if I take care of mine, it'll last as well. By the way, do yours have any problems/ issues with pilling?
@monie15273 жыл бұрын
@@JoannaRoxanne If you have clothes bunching up, lighten the load & put two new tennis balls, in the tub. These jump around as the tub agitates & they keep the clothes un bunched. I clean the machine (inside & out) with clorox wipes once a week. Complete game changer!

@@JoannaRoxanne Duh, sorry...I also invested in a lint roller & "pill" shaver, available at Walmart. It looks like a small electric razor. I have not needed to use it when using a quality & properly sized mesh bag.

I only run a wash cycle, first wash are my wifes clothes, or my weekend/after work clothes (i work construction). An awesome tip since this machine hates softener is to put in a capful of apple cider vingegar in the wash. I do my rinse in the tub in a rubbermaid. Its less water and an excellent workout. When i hang my clothes ill put a fan blowing on them to dry by morning. Happy laundry😂

I own both a regular washer/dryer machines and a compact portable washer/spin dry machine. I end up using the portable machine because the way my home is set up, I can do all my laundry (wash and air dry) without having to lug all the laundry up and down the stairs. Using the portable washer and air dry uses less water and electricity than the regular washer/dryer. And there's something kind of cathartic about doing my laundry with the portable machine. It seems more relaxed, and I feel like I'm in my own thoughts. If that makes any sense.

At the price people pay in New York for rent, it should come with not only a washer/dryer, but a maid to do the laundry! 😳 I can't believe the cost of rent that people have to pay in places like New York and California. Here in eastern ky my neighbor has a nice 2 BR apartment with garage and pays $595 per month, and when she learned that the new owners were raising the rent by $50 she went nuts. 😂 Also, can you just pour water into it by bucket if you don't have a sink to connect to?

Hi Joanna, great video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am not sure if you'll see this comment, but I do have a question I want your opinion based on your experience. I am also a New Yorker living in an apartment. I am very interested in purchasing a similar machine. However, before doing so, I am curious if my landlord would allow this machine. Do you have any thoughts or opinions you can share? Did your landlord have any issues with it? Much appreciated!
@JoannaRoxanne2 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick! My landlord had no problem with this! I actually found out other units in my building also have portable washers and it was completely fine by him! Something that I don't think I mentioned in the video is that if you, for whatever reason forget that you are filling it up with water, it will never overflow!! Happened to me twice. It automatically slowly pumps it out to wherever you put the hose in. So you never have to worry about any type of flooding in your apartment or your neighbor's downstairs! And sure it makes noise- but I just never use it at like 2am. I always use it anytime between 7am-11pm and I've never had a complaint 😊 hope that helps! Lmk if you have any more questions!
@patrickcheung852 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanna! Thank you so much for your quick response! I think this is the first time I've actually received a response to a comment/question that I've left! ^_^ Kudos to you! I really appreciate your sharing of experience as well as the tips & tricks! Sadly, I'm located in New York and landlords are quite strict with many things and laundry machines are a big no-no to them. With that said, I do know a lot of fellow New Yorkers had sneaked these machines in their apartment, but I just don't want to risk it and give them a reason for eviction. Maybe one day I'll be able to get one and try it. Thank you once again and keep up the awesome work with the videos!!

The best way to drain it, is in your tub 🛀 or kitchen sink, but use a fine mesh strainer that you can buy at any bodega. The fine mesh will catch the mini plastic particles that shouldn’t be going down any drain, because they’ll add on to fatbergs in the NYC drainage system, plus do a decent job of keeping those little particles out of the environment.

Then you may have problems with water leaks...

If the clothes came out dry why do you need a drying rack? And are they wrinkled?
@JoannaRoxanne2 жыл бұрын
Hii!! It's a spin dryer. So they come ALMOST completely dried. And sadly most of clothes do come out wrinkled like shirts. Hope this helps!!

Hi Alicia! I got it on Amazon. Here's the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B00H7P1GPO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_QZMSY6VSZ51DV0N4NPW7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

So does it fully dry your clothes?
@JoannaRoxanne2 жыл бұрын
Hi! It has a spin dryer. So it dries it like 90%, so you still have to lay your clothes to fully dry for at least half an hour!

My local laundromat just went up to 4$ to wash a medium load. Definitely going to have to invest in this! Great review
@JoannaRoxanne2 жыл бұрын
It's worth it. When I moved into this apartment, I used the laundromat for a whole year because I was doubtful about these. I hated having to take cash out, and wait around for my clothes, and being around so many people. So I finally bought it. I can wash from the comfort of my home and as often as I want and it doesnt do anything to my electricity bill. I think it went up like 1 dollar- if that.
@byhisgrace2brown1092 жыл бұрын
I just purchased mine. Currently, I’m in a wheelchair and can now do my own laundry! Please note, when on drain cycle, the lower the hose, the water will drain properly. So, I had to sit my washer combo on a bench, lower the hose & drain. If you really, really want to save, make your own detergent and it’ll cost you pennies to wash your clothes. 😄

Any cheaper and smaller options on amazong with the same quality under 30 dollars?

@NedekcirCheers3 жыл бұрын
my very first time seeing how they work. I've seen them around and my sister in law back home have one. so the dryer part is another spin cycle that will ring the clothes for you. I thought it would actually dry the clothes hehehe. anyway nice review my friend. I am using full size washer and dryer but it can be stack-up if we ran out of room which will not happen anytime soon hahaha. I got a huge huge in the country.
@JoannaRoxanne3 жыл бұрын
Yesss! It's a spin cycle. I was so confused by it at first too! and awww so lucky!! I always imagined what it would be like to live in the country, so spacious and green!! :)

HOW has this machine held up over time ? N how is the electric bill ?
@JoannaRoxanne3 жыл бұрын
I've had it now for over a year and it works just the same! I use it twice weekly. The electric bill BARELY changes with the use of the portable washer. I think like $2 more (IF that). I don't ever see a difference. I have a portable Air Conditioner and THAT costs me so $$ in the summer. It's crazy. But this washing machine does nothing to my bill.
