Your history is a bit wrong. You confused GiLvaSunner and GiIvaSunner. GiLva actually uploaded video game music, and was inspired by the original SiLvaGunner channel. GiLva inspired a couple of SoundCloud shitposters to create the channel GiivaSunner, who actually uploaded edited video game music, and those guys would go on to make the channel SiivaGunner. GiLva was terminated around 2 years ago due to copyright infringement.

@@la_kja all three channels were terminated at some point, SiLva was terminated shortly before GiLva was created for copyright infringement. Giiva was terminated in early 2016 iirc for impersonation. I hope there is a KFAD3 someday. I can see Mariya getting a "parting gift" as DJPK becomes the new host. That being access to the Yakuza/Like A Dragon soundtracks, as Kiryu & Majima become her backup dancers.

I was an active participant in KFAD and currently a member of the larger tourney scene. It feels like over the past few years I really felt that the scene was overall so detached from KFAD even though it was the genesis of the community I’d say, it felt impossible to look at it not through a modern lens. This really did remind me how special it was though, excellent production, I’ve been waiting for something of this quality on this topic. Amazing job, leaving a like, sub and comment to help further this content to more people. Huge props.

As a Law & Disorder fan, this tournament was both amazing and heartbreaking. I went in kinda expecting all of my mains to lose. Mariya, Missingno, and Law and Disorder were just such cool concepts to me, but I realized that each was going to have niche appeal. And when Mariya and Missingno immediately fell in the first round, I figured I was right. But somehow, despite how out-there the mystery pair were, they managed to win the first round, and by a lot. And there was this hope that I had: I hoped Law and Disorder would be the most popular in the tournament. And I genuinely do believe I got my wish... On a monkey's paw. They were (judging by the votes) easily the most red-hot challenger. DJ Professor K was definitely a big contender, but even his win ratios were nothing compared to how much Law and Disorder would *eviscerate* everyone in their way. The thing with popularity... Is that you get a big target on your back. With each victory, Law and Disorder would attain more enemies, and suddenly they became the villain to be beat. People began to vote *against* them instead of *for* their opponent, with constant unfounded rumors about rigged voting appearing left and right. There were even false rumors that *if* Law and Disorder won, they would cut their day short, and that even the Siivagunner people hated working on their rips. Their popularity had turned into something else. They had become the defacto heel of the tournament, with the Mojo even further playing up this dynamic. I knew the result of the K Vs. L&D round without seeing it. It was inevitable. At the end of the day, I had chosen 3 of the 4 contestants that would be the top picks, and yet still didn't have a single one win. The tournament was truly phenomenal. I got to hear so much great music, and spend a couple weeks just enjoying the highs and lows of the tournament. But I can't deny that the final round felt somewhat bitter. Even if one of my mains was in the final round, but I knew she was going to lose. And I remember reading the final Mojo post, a kinda last stomping down of 1/2 of my main duo as everyone celebrated. It was bitter, and rough. But I felt like it was eerily fitting considering my main. Ace Attorney games often end on a bitter case. And as far as Monokuma goes... Well his whole goal from the beginning of the series was to give people despair... So what better fit would there be from a Law and Disorder main.

Yeah, it's bitter for me too. And the L&D sourcelist were absolutely ignored. Off the top of my head, they didn't use Zero Escape, AITSF, Umineko, or Zero Escape (again). And there are so many sources for duel rips that went ignored too: The entire Professor Layton series is such good material for Papyrus it's obvious. Some edutainment games could work with Jack & Elmo (Carmen Sandiago). The Glitz Pit segment of TTYD could lead to a cool rip with Geno. Haven't played much Persona yet, but I think it qualifies as a mystery _related_ series. Solid Snake is easy, choose any MGS game. Johnny Bravo - Scooby-Doo rip, where are you? Shinji Hosoe (Zero Escape composer) worked on rhythm games, so that'd be perfect for a Rhythm Masters crossover. And it's true that the _music_ team didn't work on their rips much - the art team chose the character, and it shows. The Mojo making Monokuma out to be the villain of the tournament didn't make people Vote Responsibly(tm).

@@bane2201 I agree fully. It was a tad bit frustrating that we *only* got mainly Ace Attorney and Danganronpa rips. I expected there to be a few obviously, and some of them were bangers to be fair, but outside of a couple oddballs and a Mystery Skulls rip (oh and Who Let the Dogs Out which was really funny), it was exclusively AA or Danganronpa music. I personally would've definitely loved a lot of the stuff you mentioned, Professor Layton especially. (I don't have as much experience with Umineko, but some Higurashi rips would've been pretty rad.) On the whole "Voting Responsibly" thing, it was pretty obvious that wasn't going to happen from the start, as a lot of the better sourcelists kinda struggled out the gate. Mariya was the perfect example, but I recall Missingno almost getting booted right away because he was "kinda boring" to a lot of people. (It was lucky he got put against Hobart, the joke entry, because it meant people had time to realize the mistake.) And there are a lot of contestants who were a lot less lucky, or ones (like Mr. Krabs) who lasted *way* longer than you'd expect purely based on meme-status, popularity, or just one really good arrangement. But Law and Disorder wasn't an issue of popularity, they just became the villains because of Monokuma's portrayal on the Mojo and because they were really popular. And even then, L&D barely got anything on the Mojo at all. I recall being baffled by how almost every other character had more posts than L&D, and the ones they did have failed to play off of the inherently whacky chemistry the two should've had. It felt like the Siivagunner team kinda wanted them to lose. Don't get me wrong, DJ Prof K's takeover was cool, but I think L&D would've made for a *much* better one, and one that would've given us rips of a lot of the more underrepresented games on the channel.
@bane2201

@@DuoStuff Yeah, I agree that voting responsibly wasn't really going to happen. Personally, one thing that bugged me is that (IIRC) Monokuma appeared a couple times to antagonize contestants, whereas Phoenix very rarely showed up. I agree that the SiIvaGunner team didn't want them to win (at the very least, the music team didn't, and the Mojo team didn't help). Honestly, that list was just some examples off the top of my head. The sourcelists for Rhythm Masters and Johnny Bravo even mention Shinji Hosoe and Scooby-Doo respectively - those weren't the most subtle. I could come up with duel rip ideas for half of the roster (*), and that doesn't even mention all of the L&D solo rip ideas I could come up with easily. I forgot to mention Steins;Gate or The House in Fata Morgana. It was insulting enough that I have a slightly sour view of the tournament now. I'd be fine if they were given a fair shake - losing is normal. But they were ignored by the music team and portrayed as the antagonists. Really puts a bitter taste in my mouth. The music is still good, though. (*) - Actually, I did, but a couple are a bit of a reach. Also, many of these could be solo rips by extension. Adam Levine - Makes Me Wonder Donkey Kong - The Monkey Island series, or Who Framed Roger Rabbit (Rareware) Eminem - The Real Slim Shady Geno - Glitz Pit from TTYD Jack & Elmo - Carmen Sandiago, Math Blaster Mystery, probably other edutainment games Jack Bros - [many Persona or Atlus games] Johnny Bravo - Scooby-Doo Missingno - a bunch of gaming creepypastas would work here, e.g. Petscop Nintendo Power - Forest of Mystery from LoZ Papyrus - the Layton series, Myst, What Reminds of Edith Finch, Return of the Obra Dinn, Hotel Dusk Quote - Braid (2008 platformer) Rhythm Masters - Zero Escape (due to Shinji Hosoe) Solid Snake - [many MGS or Silent Hill games] Thanos - Marvel vs. Capcom (Phoenix Wright appears in it) Weird Al - I'll Sue 'Ya, or Why Does This Always Happen to Me? ZUN - U.N. Owen Was Her?

Unfortunately, with how frequently SiIvagunner posts, me being late by a few days already had me confused on where to start and where to look to even follow the tournament. But even after the tournament ended, I still came back to listen to every single track and find out which of those tracks were my favorite, create my own playlist, and rank the characters based on their music. I remember reading the lore on the website with my sister because we found it funny and very interesting to see so many characters interact in ways that fans of said characters would understand. There was so much effort put into this project and I’m glad someone would acknowledge KFAD as something worthy of a retrospective.

oh you dont know how long ive waited for someone to make this kind of video. kfad is still to this day one of my favourite things ive ever had the privilege of experiencing on the internet, seeing track after track of amazing content release and seeing the story unveil in real time is a feeling i will cherish for a long, long time. i mean i didnt even bother making this account until voting started and i wanted so badly to participate lol this tournament has seriously changed my life, i still regularly go back to many of its tracks and reread through the lore just to appreciate it all again. i don't think there'll ever be anything just like it on the internet again, but that's alright given how much it already gave us now as part of the smaller tournament community born from kfad, still going to this day, i've made a lot of friends and memories that mean the world to me, and its all because siivagunner decided to make a voting poll. its kind of stupid to say out loud, but thats how i like it. this video served as a really nice retrospective on just one facet of this project, mariya's surprise success story is still a wonder to me, even if she was never my pick to win. i can't complain at how things went, she deserved every bit of success she got, and this video is a great reminder as to why. (plus the other F4 members were favourites of mine but thats not the point-). you have my thanks for putting this all together, it brightened my day to see also hey!! thanks for using one of my playlists at 4:11! it probably shouldnt hit me as hard as it does but i didnt think theyd really mean that much so it was kind of a jumpscare seeing my name come up lol

insanely good video. i still think of KFAD2 often- i wasn't there for it until it ended (i was a headass who didn't get it) but by the time DJPK's prize came around, i was fully invested and found characters and tracks i adored. the community that spawned from this bracket format has changed my life for the better and i can hardly envision a time where i wasn't a massive fan of this project. personally i'm a huge fan of DJ Professor K and Mariya, but i've always felt Geno was severely underappreciated. Yoko Shimomura in the SiIva team's hands is such an insane prospect, and knowing he 0-3'd between all tournaments really stunk. maybe people just weren't ready for him, but i was *always* a Geno truther, even before i followed KFAD2. i can't be too mad, though- grands was my 1st VS my 3rd and my 1st came out on top, so... i ate good. :) (if you're curious, Daft Punk ft. Pharrell were my 2nd. i would've fucked hard with a city pop VS french touch collab.) my personal favorite aspect of how KFAD2 was constructed was that the source lists weren't, like, strict. a lot of people took it in a different direction, but it explains Mariya got a country/blues styled arrangement, or why Daft Punk pulled a Deltarune song remixed in a french touch style. i *love* how transformative the project was, and as much as i love the fan community that spawned from it, i feel like no one really understood that for a long time. i liked how out-there and bizarre some of the rips could be, because the lists were guidelines and suggestions, not inherently strict. it's why the takeover we got worked so well. things were allowed to be free and loose, and i really like that. overall, KFAD2 was never gonna be a huge event (nearly 10,000 people per match is nothing to scoff at, though), but it's ripple can still be felt to this day. a lot of people hold it in high regard and use it as inspiration for their writing, music, and art. i don't wanna say it's underrated, because it's certainly not, but it really did feel like *the* event to follow when it dropped. and for that, i think it's special. wonderful video!

Rhythm masters and Nico nico main here, thank you for bringing attention to this tournament! KFAD was a love letter to music, from so many genres, media and memes and it deserves to be more popular. There were so many arcs and inside jokes, its kind of impossible to fully experience it unless you were participating in the community at the time. I do wish you had touched a little more on the other finalists and even other entrants. Law and Disorder, especially, was a controversial contestant as alot of viewers thought their source list was too good. This, along with Monokuma being mean to everyone in the side stories led to L&D being labelled as the villain of the tournament. This made narrative sense, but that also meant L&D was destined to fail against DJPK in the votes. I loved both of them, and it was very difficult for me to vote. At least it led to the brilliant Discussion -Tournament Mix-, which is my personal favorite arrangement in the entire album. Fun fact: Mariya Takeuchi and Rhythm Masters both have the distinction of being sent to losers bracket by one Jack, and then eliminating the other's Jack.

Thank you for making this video. It was such a wonderful trip down memory lane. At a few points, I got chills. Having been someone who was there when both tournaments were under way and having voted in every single match-up, both tournaments are something that mean a lot to me and that I hold very near and dear to me. I might not have read any of the dojo interviews, being quite busy at the time and only having time to listen to the rips, but it was still an unforgettable experience that I doubt will ever happen again (at the time, the staff for the tournament did state that a KFAD3 would be unlikely to ever happen given how much time and planning went into the tournament. And it really shows when you see things like the video that shows what ALL the match-up quotes would have been for EVERY possible match up). Rooting for your favourites, discussing with others who you thought would advance (not afraid to say that I originally thought Mariya would be pushed out in Losers' round 1 because Off the Hook had been such a power house in the original tournament) and the tension every time a new results video came out, a truly memorable experience. Out of the 4 finalists, I'd been rooting for Law & Disorder and DJ Prof K throughout the tournament. To say that them coming head to head in the winners' finals was a tough decision would be an understatement. But I'm ultimately quite happy DJ Prof K won in the end. The only gripe I'll ever have about the tournament is what happened to poor HOBaRT. Poor fella didn't deserve to come in dead last, by as large of a margin as it did. Not only was it dismissed by the community, but even the event staff themselves. Its source list honestly had so much potential and I was dismayed when it lost in Losers' round 1. For anyone looking for a taste of what HOBaRT had to offer, look up "Since I'm Australian". It came out towards the end of the tournament, well after it had been eliminated, and showcased a lot of what it had to offer. But overall, I'd still give the tournament a 10/10. Especially the secret final boss and the Etika rip that came out after DJ Prof K has claimed the title of King for a day. It was a magical experience from start to end and it truly was a great Christmas present (the tournament reached its conclusion on Christmas Eve). A few other rips from the tournament I'd recommend to anyone checking it out are: -The aforementioned Etika rip of Lifelight -POLKA FOR ANOTHER DAY, an accordion version of every charcter's main themes -Mas Gasolina, what was an incredibly strong opener for Pitbull and the Aliens, characters who hadn't fared quite so well in the first tournament. -Teknopathetic for DJ Prof K, a rip that was performed and recorded LIVE in an actual studio with professional musicians playing actual instruments. -Back in Time, a staple from Sonic R, performed this time by Hatsune Miku. -AIN'T NOTHIN' LIKE A FLAT BEAT, Daft Punk ft. Pharell meets DJ Prof K. -the end [150][e2+valhalla mix] literally my favourite Missingno. rip I wouldn't liked to list more of my favourites or at least one rip from each contestant, but this comment is already long enough as it is, so I'll leave it there.

This is a great look at one of my favorite events on the internet. However, I believe the siivagunner origin story you describe is inaccurate. Iirc Gilvasunner and siivagunner were created around the same time. Gilvasunner was the original Silvagunner rebranded and behaved exactly the same, while siivagunner was a parody channel capitalizing on the originals takedown. Hi, first time seeing your channel, great video! Long comment incoming. I was honestly not expecting this video to focus on the lore side of the tourney. Some present fans might tell you it was too cheesy and bad, but I think those who were there can say it really enhanced the experience and helped many people feel invested. I was a Mariya voter as well, and I remember feeling really emotional the day of the grand finals, reading the conversation with Professor K and tearing up a little (and also really excited on the losers finals results reveal, watching it with my friends!) This sure was a trip down memory lane. Underdog stories are always satisfying to see, and this tourney sure delivered on that. I find music tourneys a topic hard to explain to someone not familiar with it, but your introduction segment does the job well. I enjoy the flow of the video and I feel it never gets complicated, so good job with that! Also, loved the comments captions and the dialogue dub/editing, they were really unique elements. It's been around 4 years since the tourney and I still come back to KFAD's repertory very often. I have met beautiful people and learnt about many tracks thanks to it. I can't measure how much happiness this tourney gave me and I thank every person who was involved; and it's still crazy to me how enormous it is (500 tracks is nothing to be shy about!). Overall, I'm glad there's users to share a video and talk about it! I'm a thankful man, and I say thank you.

When you say Mariya Takeuchi was a threat to the entire tournament, I got flash backed to when the tournament was brand new and yea this tournament was insanely good. The lore of Mariya vs DJ Professor K, Mariya coming from the bottom going all the way to the top final 2 against someone who had been winning that entire tournament, and lost first round of last tournament. I hope one day we can get another tournament similar to this.

It could be worse. Geno lost in Round 1 of KFAD1. In KFAD2, he was buffed to include all Yoko Shimomura music (which is a huge buff), and he _still_ lost 0-2.

SPOILER: Personally, I think that without Professor K winning KFAD 2, I would've never heard Jet Set Radio's funky rhythms and Hideki's compositions, let alone withness the creation of Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Fall Breaks was the best duel mix I've had the pleasure of listening to. It was truly one of the best internet events to occur.

I would love these epic stories for all sorts of contestants. I followed Weird Al for most of the tournament as an outsider. He was using only half his power and got all the way up to Professor K, and made that EPIC polka of everyone's styles in the tournament. But that's just one story out of dozens.

Awesome to see KFAD getting recognition! :) It's also great to see the "underground" music tourney scene blossom into something beautiful beneath the notice of most. I'm convinced that someday, someone will take the basic concept of KFAD and make something that becomes mind-bogglingly popular, introducing millions to the joy that is music tournies. Maybe it'll be one of the people involved in the smaller tournies?

DJ Professor K got me into playing Jet Set Radio and listening a lot of remixes related to Hideki Naganuma's tracks, and I still listen to KFAD2 tracks regularly, it's one of the few albums I have downloaded on my phone. It's safe to say it changed my life permanently, even if slightly. Also, Jack Bros. got robbed of Etrian Odyssey.

The storytelling in this video was amazing! I watched the entire tournament while it was happening, but I was still pumping my fist when Mariya came out on top. I remember back when the tournament was introduced, I had no idea who Mariya or what city pop was, but now that it's over, city pop is probably my favorite music genre because of her inclusion. So even if she didn't win she sure made an impression.

I personally don't remember the first rip I listen in Siivagunner but what I know is that, this channel made me break free and find myself musically speaking. I still don't know what the name of the style of music DJ professor K makes but I truly feel in love with that. And discovered many other styles that I loved, Fight club Chinatown is my favorite rip of Mariya since I can clearly vision an old japanese arcade fighting game with an vaporware aesthetic listening to that

I didn't even know about the lore and interactions until this video, I first heard and listened to KFAD when trying to search Hediki Naganuma-style songs and remixes about a year after the whole thing ended and the DJ already had his day. Though I like relistening to the playlist once in a while and the most rips that I've heard are bangers. If I had been there when the whole thing was going on, my mains would've been DJ Professor K as previously mentioned, but also Law and Disorder (although I haven't heard or played any of their sources for the rips they did until about a couple years ago, except for the "Who let the Dogs Out" rip, the music was the best part of both of the featured franchises IMO), and Nintendo Power. I would've also mained Papyrus but I feel like he got screwed by only having songs featuring himself for stuff by Toby Fox instead of having anything by Toby Fox as a source (what he got is like having Despicable Me not as a source for Pharrell Williams ft Daft Punk, big loss). My favorite rip is Discussion - MIX - because it's a genre mash between 6 characters, with the later ones being ones that survived more rounds, and they even changed what song it was ripping halfway through (Discussion - Break - for the first half, Discussion - Hope vs Despair - for the second half). EDIT: Accidently found out how to do a crossthrough in YT comments.

Such a shame i never noticing or cared much about this Siivagunner King for Another Day tournament until much recently because its pretty sick (Which is a good thing). Despite i have to listen to one of its rips, like Mr Krabs Rave and FIGHTCLUB CHINATOWN, i didn't notice the significant of the KFAD2 when it was came out. I guess 15 year old me were clueless or too busy with other stuff at that time.

KFAD2 was so good that part of me just wanted it to go on forever, specially because right after the tournament ended it felt like every ip and irl artist released stuff that would've been wonderful to see represented in the tournament. Even more so now I'm wondering how things would've played out had Hobart had Pizza Tower in his sources, or Snake getting a boost from the modern metal gear memes. But alas it had to come to an end, and the siivagunner team knew people had grown attached to the event. The final story beat before the final match, looking back on it now, it most definitely was just there to reel in people back to reality. That the event had to end, and the channel would return to its silly and random nature. And with everything said and done, the fact that it had a proper ending is what made the event so enjoyable. Still, as a Mariya and MissingNo fan, I really wish their songs were a bit more varied. Plastic Love and Lavender Town can bd arranged only so many times before it feels repetitive

I found out about the KFAD II tournament too late to participate, but I remember watching the DJ Professor K takeover stream, which was a livestream of K hosting a selection of his favorite rips, including an "OST" for Jet Set Radio Evolution, which was a planned JSR game that sadly never got made. Near the end of the stream, K delivers a moving speech about Mariya and the friendship they had developed during the time of the tournament, followed by a string of Mariya rips the audience had been waiting all stream for.

Holy smokes, how am i 6 months late to this? Yeah. Kfad2 was an absolutely incredible tournament, and absolutely one of my favorite things on the internet. EVER. It was great, and so is this video! Good summary of this, i’ll say. And it even went onto inspire a whole scene, mashup tournaments! Such as mashup week, remix rumble, prizm, strange alternative leader tournament or another unnecessary tournament! Though, that’s just a few. That aside, this video’s great and kfad’s great, I highly recommend checking out kfad and mashup tournaments if you havent, whoever’s reading this, because this video only touches up on a very brief part, we’d be here for YEARS if we touched on everything.

Seeing a documentary like this on KFAD was something I did not expect to see today, and damnit you did it justice. Personally I was too late to finding out about it, I had heard on the channel itself to check it out back in around 2020 and I was floored. I had no idea about the lore though and just listened to characters I knew, not giving a second thought to anyone such as ZUN (whom I’ve become VERY familiar with) and Professor K, I’m so grateful and amazed that you could condense a character’s story like that and create the sort of feeling that one might have felt back when the tournament was ongoing, that’s a subscribe for sure. King for another another day when❗️

I was generally following the rips and voting when this was being released and while I though DJ Professor K's tracks where good, I didn't really understand why he won when he lost so early the previous time. Similarly, I was following the first tournament in the same way and was unaware of the Etika Vs. K lore, so now it makes sense... he probably got the underdog edge because of that since it was a more tight-knit niche community then. Ironically, I think it was probably a somewhat similar situation to when he lost to Etika this time propelling him to the win.
