I have seen a similar tube lock set up. The difference was the puck luck was covered so it couldn’t be drilled. Even the stainless puck lock can be drilled through
@stgraves260
@stgraves260 2 жыл бұрын
The flaw is not the system, it’s the lock itself. There is a small dot on the puck lock that shows you where to drill in case you loose your key. Takes less than 30 seconds with a cordless drill.

(I'm Not concerned about this being a late entry) Nice physical deterrence. Well made & thought out. Not to criticize too harshly, I'd like to suggest few minor upgrades: ¹ weld a plate that not only covers the whole bottom... but, extends out the front to be flush with the outer edge of the puck. This will still allow the key to be used on the keyring, but should not leave the length of clearance for picking comfort. ² stop using tubular cylinders. (Use 6 pin pin tumbler cylinders) ³ paint the whole assembly blaze orange... people value their shins & knees. Thanks for sharing.

Here’s what I would do if I really really wanted to secure a trailer: 1) don’t use a locking hitch pin. They can all be defeated easily with a pipe. Instead use a bolt, and then cover the head with 2000lb epoxy. 2) use an amplock recover lock or one of the ones posted here. I think amo lock is superior. 3) get pewag 12mm chain. Run 1 through each trailer wheel and then around a portion of the frame or trailer arm. Leave some slack but not much. Harder to grind through with battery grinder. Will take a few wheel changes and several batteries. 4) use an abloy or abus high security lock with a good core in it. Those will not be picked in the field. 5) get some apple gps tacked dots ( forget the name - they are new and very small). Hid a couple in the trailer. Now all of that can be defeated with a torch or angle grinder. But it’s going to take a long time to get through all of that security. Plus if they do and drive off with it you can track them. Keep it in a well lit place and it’s very unlikely it will be stolen. They will go on to easier prey.

@@MortenDamm I just meant the amplock they posted here. But you need to add the pewag chain with abloy lock, and also some gps. And if you really wanted to be thorough throw a boot on it. With all that- they are definitely going on to the next trailer unless they have a lot of time and privacy to work through all that stuff with a grinder.

Almost got one but cancelled due to bulk weight and the fact that someone can still wrap their own chain and drag it away. Two tire locks and embedded gps locator is the best deterrent. And two alarms triggers by vibration and added blink front and back. GPS locator embedded in frame and motion triggers, alarm sticker x 6. Hitch and pin still have he cheap locks. So it’s 6 layers of defense to defeat and if there is movement I get an immediate text.

unfortunately thieves can steal a trailer with no access to the hitch at all. they have very crude receiver hooks that can just latch on to whatever and pull it far enough away that they can spend some time cutting or doing whatever they need to get better access....the lock is useless as long as the wheels can roll. the best way to secure a trailer is to make it so the wheels can not roll.

Biggest issue is no matter how badass a mousetrap you have, the lock has to be extremely difficult to pick or remove, IT is THE weak point. No heavy tools needed, just be really good at picking. The lock picking lawyer on TikTok/KZbin makes picking practically ANY lock look so easy and fast a key is irrelevant. I would question any seasoned thiefs ability to pick before a smash and grab.
@1moredayinmo
@1moredayinmo 10 ай бұрын
I agree the lock IS the weak point, but I would guess 99.9% of the trailer thieves out there are NOT lock pickers. And those that are, probably 90% aren't good pickers (ie they can pick Harbor Freight and Master Locks). All in all a trailer lock is about deterrence (that's a BIG lock!) and making them spend a LOT of time trying to defeat it and make a LOT of noise doing it.
@showcasecharlie11
@showcasecharlie11 10 ай бұрын
@@1moredayinmo not really. How big the mousetrap is is irrelevant. A lock is a lock. Picking it is extremely easy to learn..for anyone with a functioning brain and a little bit of determination.
