Even though I’m a Jamaican descendant and offspring of a line of Rastas I was never told or made to loc my hair without choice. Grew up experiencing the dirty looks and nasty comments said about my father because of is locs. I always saw locing your hair as a spiritual journey as much as it is a physical one. Im 24 now but as I get older I am yielding to the calling to loc and allowing my ancestors to guide me on my journey.(With me knowing family history...Adding extensions will forever be a no no but do you) I grew up hearing a lot of the gems said in these comments. There’s a huge misconception between young people wanting to loc their hair because of the “ugly phase” but just trust the ancient process and make your journey sweet. Blessings Kings and Queens.

I had an awkward loc stage for about 6 months til they started maturing and I absolutely love them now. I've learned to maintain them myself by interlocking the new growth every 2-3 months and went from taking 6 hours to do my whole head to a little over 2 hours just from practice. "Loc-ing" naturally straight hair is actually "matting" the hair strands. Hair locs (strands curl around other strands) when the hair is very curly or nappy. There is nothing to "loc/wind/curl around" when hair is naturally straight.

Locs are way to permanent for me but I’d choose sister or micro locs I love how the hair still can appear it’s out and flowing and versitiles, but my hair is very low density so I don’t think it would work. Or semi free form probably when I’m older

Nice video, very informative. I’ve had locs for 10 years. My locs were stated with a two strand twist. And then they were interlocked and palm rolled. They are currently about 20 inches long at the longest point. My question deals with thinning in the front of my head. I’m not losing locs but I am noticing thinning. It is in the front through out and hair line zones. Any suggestions as I go on the journey to restore the front zones

I want to strengthen and grow out my hair a little more before starting my traditional lock journey. That slide she showed was absolutely gorgeous. I had the traditional locs (actually just findin out theyre called this) for nearly 20 years. I LOVED them. However the narrator is correct. Until the hair actually locs, (which can take AWHILE) the wearer may feel their hair is unattractive as it goes thru the transition. Hair grows really fast once locked and id cut it after it got too long (waist length was too long for ME). Then id let it grow again, then cut again. Finally, i reluctantly cut them all the way off thinkin that the weight of my hair was responsible for balding on the top of my head. However, it turns out it was actually a health concern behind my hair loss. Im currently considering going through the process of growing them again from scratch and i appreciate this video. I guess ill do it the handrolling method i used the first time i locked as each loc was uniform in size and had pretty curls at the end. Thanks again for such a thorough , well produced video😘.

I second that. The sit for that many locks is terrible. In the end yes its worth it but 400 to 600 is a good amount. I was like that too but after day 3 I was like just do whatever you have to do to finish. Also you gain extra locs throughout your journey. Last I counted I had over 400 and I've gained 10-15 more. #sisterlocs
