The price on this bike is "reasonable". The bike industry has created an atmosphere were they have duped customers in thnking they are getting good "value" in overpriced options. These bloated weights are intentional so they can justify the $12k for other bikes in the collection that weight a few pounds less.

In terms of the way they price bikes across their range... it's more like they release limited High-End 'Marquee' models at super high prices (10-20K) to make the 4-5K models (that were 2-3K not that long ago) seem better value. Read up on 'Premium Decoy Pricing'. Too much marketing led bullshit in this world 😐😫

@@charliedillon1400 Exactly, and I can ride ANY bike I want and in the past I would ante up top dollar for frames like the Litespeed Vortex back in day which cost as much as high end frames now. BUT it was handmade in Chattanooga TN in a sterile chamber and not in some Chinese factory. The profit margins on frames has gone up exponentially and instead of dropping prices now that they are made in China, they are taking business model of increasing prices to manipulate consumer perception. My Focus Cayo Evo was made in Germany and I got it new on closeout in 2015 for $2190 shipped with Ultegra Di2, Fulcrum wheels, Prologo saddle 3T cockpit etc. Similar spec now is $8-10k. Agree! 3-5 years ago, any Ultrgra bike was 15-16 pounds. Now they are 18-20 and they call it “good deal”. Also discs are a pain! In all my group rides, I always encounter someone with disc rubbing, noises, you name it.

@@thedronescene7474 I am not averse to disc brakes other than the weight penalty and the outrageous increase in price of complete bikes that weigh 17lbs and under. I was thinking the same. I had a 2013 SuperSix (58 cm) with mechanical Ultegra and (obviously) rim brakes. It weighed 15 pounds and wasn't even the high mod frame. It cost less than half the cost of this bike. (I do have a newer SuperSix high mod with Red Etap Hydro and similar weight wheels that weighs the same as my old one did for a frame of reference. Yes, way more expensive groupset and frame for the same weight.) I can't help but agree with you. Especially given that the cost of bikes seems to be increasing very disproportionately to inflation.

Just want to put this out there, my titanium disc brake bike weighs less than that bike. The majority of the weight on that thing must be from the SRAM group. Kudos to TREK for actually putting a badge of their logo on the headtube. IMO a bike brand ain't S**T if all they do is paint the logo or use a decal, "Colnago!" on the headtube. I recently bought this bike for 3,800 euros (tax free exemption). I sold my 2021 sl6 with mechanical ultegra before moving to Europe, thinking that i'd find a better deal overseas. Nope not the case at all, especially compared to the pinarellos bianchis and colnagos. I love the new sl6 with rival drivetrain, yes its slightly heavier but the carbon wheels and and electronic drive train outweigh the 1/2 pound difference in weight. Over time I'll swap out the heavy components for lighter more expensive components. Again not the lightest "climbing" bike but I view the Emonda as the best overall road bike perfect for someone with a "puncheur" riding style.

Rim brake frames are lighter than disc frames, as well as the brakes themselves being lighter. They've had to engineer beefy forks to handle the torque at the hub so they can shove disc brakes down our throats.

Question: would you trade in a 2021 black matte black cervelo caledonia mechanical ultegra with "black inc" carbon bars and seat post for this bike (trek emonda sl6 in red w etap).????????? Just curious...my shop has them in size 58/60..I love the cervelo caledonia, it's a sleeper and it's fast for an "endurance/aero road bike"...lol

Way to expensive anyway for such a bike. 4000-4300 with carbon handlebar would be appropriate. And the wheelset is pretty much "crap". Rather have quality lightweight alloy wheelset with good hubs.

I’m enjoying the bike so far kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
