@@dewdew34 Buy Japan made, but only one owner, pristine record of maintenance, garaged and loved by previous owner. My daughter bought a 2015 Prius C in 2018, with trade in. She loved its 53 mpg with her job as a vendor. The best gas mileage hybrid, no recalls, super reliable. It got totaled by an F-350 commercial truck in snow storm (he crushed her car into the car in front of her). Well, the commercial insurance company had an illegal no response problem, so she went through her insurance, which still used CCC low evaluation of value & Copart. All pure crap 3rd party vendor crap took 6 months to get them up, and they were still $1,500 short on real value. We hunted for 2 months to find a Prius C in perfect used condition, for sale by owner, local, one owner, perfect maintenance, always garaged (owner bought new Camry). She paid for the Carfax & an inspection. She paid $6,500. Doing the job perfectly, less hp than 2015, so it’s getting 58 miles per gallon. My son bought a regular used Prius, still working hard. The key is local one owner, perfect service by Toyota dealer, no out of state auction crap.

When you are picking your daily driver, the car you drive to work or just to get from Point A to Point B you want to pick a boring car. More often than not that boring car is going to be more reliable and less costly to own. They had some particular engine problems and getting parts for them now can be a nightmare plus they can be very expensive.

My 2020 non-hybrid Highlander (all wheel drive) has the 8 speed transmission. I find it be quirky in these respects: it often downshifts on downhills when I don’t want it too to cause engine breaking. Also, when accelerating uphill, say on an onramp to a highway, it stays too long in lower gear before shifting, with the RPM staying higher longer than it needs to be. @jimtownsend7899Ай бұрын
That's because you're paying the hourly labor rate. Depending on the car and the number of cylinders, on some vehicles it involves removing the top of the engine (valve covers, anything that is in the way of doing that, intake manifold, etc.) just to get to the plugs. Stealership labor rates are insane, not to mention the price you pay for the parts. But that's how they make their money. Selling the cars isn't the main profit generator.

Is synthetic oil better than regular oil for old or new Toyotas?
@alibabaschultz352Ай бұрын
Synthetic is better in every way for all vehicles.
@Corkfish1Ай бұрын
Pretty sure you can only use synthetic in the newer ones.

Watch that Toyota 8-speed tranny. Problems began with the ‘17 model and was put into other models as well. Still lots of law suits against it. That older six-speed is good stuff.

Starting in model year 2025 the Camry is only available in hybrid. Uses Toyotas eCVT which is not like other CVT transmissions. Much more durable, responsive and doesn't drone like other CVTs.
