I bought a Quest 2 after Christmas this year. Just bought Smash Drums today (my second VR game purchase). My daughter plays Beat Saber but I wanted something similar to the Rock Band experience I had when she was just a baby. It was quite therapeutic than and the VR experience today is amazing. I was sweating after hitting a few songs this afternoon. Great game. Highly recommenced.

Know this is a year old, but yea you are spot on. Was a fun enough game before for sure and was a favourite - but adding the Rock Band highway and the kit elevates this to god tier and its absolutely one of the top 10 VR games now. Just wish they could pump out more licensed tracks!

Great video Ben. As always. I just love this game. I'm always playing this, especially after a couple of whiskies. I feel like a rock god. Anyway, I did reach out to the developers a while back after Taylor Hawkins from the Foo fighters died to see if they could maybe release a song pack, but obviously it was too soon. Maybe this could be a thing in the near future. Let's hope and many more licence packs which I would be more than happy to pay for.

I love this game. It became the only game I really play. The new update is so humbling. Went from Extreme and 20% faster to playing normal tempo on easy. It is so much more of a challenge but I love it!

I understand your excitement, Ben! It looks so amazing, very responsive and with enough balanced difficulty to be fun. More like a simulation of Rock Band drum set truly. I usually dismiss regularly rhytmical games about drumming, I find them particulary difficult, even tho Im someone with deep connection with musical world. But seeing you having so much fun immidiately makes me wanting for this game :D I will keep my eye on it, might be next in line to be bought. I understand that there might be better options that include custom songs, but this game just looks outright fun and simple, good point to start with it seems. I cant wait for a game that is like Rock Band, but in VR and through internet, like making multiplayer mix of Smash Drums, Unplugged and some kind of karaoke singing would be great and I picture this as a vehicle for bands with people all around the world joining together to play music, be it designed "levels" or their own music and improvisation, "creative mode". I think it is possible by now, but maybe not actually enjoyable, since the delay must be close to 0 to make it work. Im almost sure that someone is trying something like that right now, in VRChat or as a game or tool, enlighten me, KZbin xD Thank you for updating on the game and inspiring us here, Benjo, great work as always, Im happy to see you enjoy yourself

Looks like fun, but I prefer the rock band since the real drum controller you use allows me to feel a solid stop when the drumsticks hit the pads. Air drumming seems hard for me to do.

I wouldn't worry about air drumming, once you get the beat of the song and a little practice it comes quite natural. There is also a arcade version where the drums come towards you and is solid gameplay.

@@ParadiddleXR I suppose I haven't tried playing it hooked to my PC, but I was hoping it would play nice on standalone Quest. Its possible its the USB or dock I bought but they were just basic recommended items. The kicks have a certain latency with the pedal. I can groove with my sticks fairly well. Once the kick comes in I feel some sort of latency. Also, is it possible to wire two USB kick pedals to the bass kick and hihat? I have two hooked up but they both strike the same thing. Possibly a USB dock issue.

I just bought this yesterday for my Meta Quest 3, along with the 70's music pack, and OMG, I love it so much! I played for so long I ran down my battery and had to plug it in and play tethered. I find smash drums to be one of the best vr rhythm games besides beat saber but it needs more songs and a mode where they have the drum set from classic mode but still have the drums fly at you, as well as adding foot tracking for the kick drum

Definitely! Though I wouldn’t compare it to Rockband on PC/Console since playing with actual drums and playing the air is a different feeling. Though there might be foot pedal support in the future. The Quest already supports connecting one, it just needs to be implemented into the game. And since not nearly enough people are playing the game and it seems to be a single developer, supporting him by buying the game, might speed up new features 😁

Holy crap check out Benjos drum skills! Rhythm games never really get me interested, as a musician I never really feel like they are as satisfying as actually playing. Not even close. However, playing a game like Rockband in VR on the Quest CO OP over the internet would be incredibly cool. I can't believe that isnt a thing... That's just me tho, most people don't plaay VR next to a fully set up drum kit and electric guitars and basses.

Simulating instruments is a great addition to this type of game, so much better actually playing the drums than waggling sticks at arbitrary cubes. Has that Guitar Hero vibe at last :)

I just tried the game for the first time.(I never played the drums)I love music games and I wanted an electric drum kit but luckily I found this game. The demo mode doesn't do it justice, the classic mode is perfect. It feels like being the drummer at the concert, maybe I would like a little more immersion as a stage for a VR audience. I imagine in the future being able to see free modes on drums in Classic mode to be able to do a concert and challenge your friends to duels. The only "bad" thing about the game is that the song being played already has the sound of the drums. When you hit your drums if they sound really, and quite loud and real. When you get it wrong you'll hear like you failed because of the bad timing you did, but if you get it right on time you'll literally be fused with the drums of the song that's playing. The game for 19.99 I think is the best option in VR for lovers of batteries.Its difficulty is medium, you have levels for all audiences. The online mode looks really good, it's just playing you and the others in a giant circle and see who makes the most points or in Cooperative to points. It feels immersive, I loved it. You can sit quietly anywhere in your house and play the drums. You can only describe how great it feels if you play it. If you still doubted, buy it.

Best Drum sim in VR! If they can capture your knees moving for kick drums, will be fantastic as well. Wish they can also get bands like System of A Down, Foo Fighters, Machine Gun Kelly, Halsey , Linkin Park, Royal Blood, Red Hot Chili Pepper as DLC. Any of those would be super aweoome.

As an ex drummer, I would be the first guy to try drums in vr, but the problem is, that the most important drum is kick, and there is no way you can get that in quest.. Maybe if they created some cheap special controller for your foot..

The other game/sim (which was mentioned in the comments already) got you covered. There is a kick drum activated with a button (trigger or A/X) on your controller or... you can buy pedal/foot switch and connect it with usb-c to the quest and it works. It's not perfect, cause it's not a dedicated drum pedal but it works.

You can actually get that pretty easy on quest. There are pedals you can pair via Bluetooth. It’s just a matter of the developer implementing it into the game. But I get that this wasn’t a priority since needing an extra peripheral makes the game less accessible.
