In the 1970s, still in high school, I played my vinyl rock hippie records on a record player after school, and it is an awesome experience which you describe for that reason. Thanks to that, the home radio, and hand transister portable, I later became a musician, CD Baby distributes it and is based in Portland, Oregon. Enjoyed your informative video with the perspective of a younger generation like my son who also picked up a music ability watching my journey as an Indie musician and the love for music.🙂👍🎵

I completely agree that the naming of the record player can be complicated. I've also had a pair of WH-1000XM3's for a year and a half and they're well worth the money

Hi Dan. I got a new record player about 2 month ago for my birthday. Along with a record collection I first had at 10 years old and my very first record player. I also have a copy of the very first record I ever bought with my own money way back then in the 1970's. My best friend and I record shop in Ottawa when i go visit him. There use to be 2 record shops up on the plateau over off of Mount Royal towards the park end, I don't know if they survived the pandemic. Happy record playing !!

I am writing to tell you how very much I enjoyed the video about you obtaining a record player. I have consequently subscribed so please keep making videos. Incidentally while most 12 inch records are played at 33 1/3 rpm, there are 12 inch records played at 45 rpm. Most 12 inch records though are played at 33 1/3 rpm

I have the same turntable that cost me over $200 from Best Buy in the US last fall. I have mine connected to my Sony 2-channel stereo with a set of bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer. I love the way my records sound with my setup so far. The only change I have made is to ditch the felt platter mat and replace it with an acrylic one instead. It makes the base much better than the felt and doesn't attract dust and static like the felt. The only downside is the inability to upgrade the stylus. For many casual listeners, the 3600L will be just fine and will last for many hours of listening, and is relatively inexpensive to replace.

Great player! I like how you take the time to immerse the listening experience into an artist's album and not just popular tracks on various playlists 🎧It would be like only watching clips from various films rather than watching the entire movie. The copyright strikes are a bit harsh but I refrain from criticizing the google overlords in fear they might send the drones and make me just disap..

Wow! That's so cool! I never know how to operate a record player. My favourite album is Bee Gees One Night Only, It's a live performance and there is no way to have 3 of them singing live together again. BTW, as I remember, Ottawa has a lot of record shops, not sure if they still survive.

Question! The speaker that I want to connect this record player to doesn't have a "right and left" input, just an aux input. Is there a way to connect the record player to this speaker? (the speaker is a Marshall Acton II). Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Wow. OMG. Where do I begin? I am an old guy and I grew up with Vinyl 45's and 33's. It was so very funny to me to see you just discover in this video what those numbers mean. Today, the CONVENIENCE of highly portable digital sound has sacrificed analog high fidelity STEREO with its LEFT and RIGHT channels that provide SPATIAL INFORMATION such as where the drums are located in the recording studio, where the bass guitar is located, the rhythm guitar, the lead guitar, the keyboard, etc. -- in addition to the subtleties of the musicians and of the mixing audio engineer. At 10:10 I see a single "Analog Out" jack located on the back of the "record player". NO LEFT & RIGHT signal jacks. It is possible that the one signal is duplexed on the one cable, but I really doubt it. And, the cable is going to just one speaker. Audio-Technica was a low end "TURNTABLE" back in the 1970's. You need separately spaced LEFT & RIGHT SPEAKERS to enjoy fully the STEREO EFFECT and all of the music information that is on that Vinyl album. Further, the greater the WATTS of Speaker Power (which should be provided by a separate AMPLIFIER or RECEIVER COMPONENT), the greater the SOUND QUALITY -- not just greater volume or SOUND QUANTITY. 100 Watts is a good level for a home but then you need to work with the Impedance of the Speakers. It gets complicated. But today, only a serious stereo aficionado is going to have a full array of stereo components with proper Specifications -- such as over 100 WATTS Speaker power where each Speaker has a Woofer, Mid-Range, and Tweeter output, and perhaps a bass reflex. A true TURNTABLE is just one component of such a multi-component stereo system. You at least need a separate Amplifier or Receiver in between the Turntable and the Speakers. Thus, you have a "Record Player" and Not a Turntable. Be aware that once you go from the analog vinyl and analog "record player" to BLUETOOTH or to that SINGLE CABLE TO THE SMALL SPEAKER with its own power amplification integrated into itself, you will lose at least some of the music information that was recorded. IMO, better to use analog stereo all the way to the listener. Use the dustcover when not using the "record player". Dust and Particles are the enemy for Vinyl records. You should buy a Vinyl Record Cleaning System with at least a fabric bar and bottle of lubricant that you gently hold over the vinyl record as it rotates in order to clean the Vinyl record of any dust. At 4:52 that is called the PLATTER which holds the Vinyl record. Beneath the rotating Platter is the BELT DRIVE and CAPSTAN that is shown in the diagram at 3:36. You were putting the belt in place at 3:49. I do not know if the headphones will receive truly independent LEFT and RIGHT signals for full Stereo listening effect. But, I guarantee you that those LEFT & RIGHT Stereo channels are on the Bob Dylan and Pink Floyd albums. In the 1970's, when I was a teenager, I spent more than USA $2000. of my money that I saved up while working to buy a very high end component stereo system. I still have it today!!! By the way, $2000. in 1978 is worth $8400. today. US Dollars. ENJOY THE MUSIC !!!

@@thoughtsontravelandlife LOL! MORE INFO: Dan, sorry to break the news to you....but it appears that the way that your Audio-Technica "record player" is REFURBISHED eliminates the STEREO OUPUT of LEFT & RIGHT signals for SPATIAL INFORMATION. (You will not be able to play a STEREO Deutsche Grammophon VINYL RECORD of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and hear the trumpets are over there, the oboe is over there, the double basses that Beethoven works the MELODIC living shit out of are over there, etc. Same for other music genres like Jazz and Rock music.) MY ADVICE: Do not buy a pair of HIGH END Speakers $$$ because they ain't gonna do nothing meaningful to enhance the stereo effect. There ain't no stereo here. Sorry. Still, I advise buying a decent PAIR OF SPEAKERS to "FILL" the room -- and your heart -- with music. Sadly, the wonderful, amazing, and beautiful analog high fidelity STEREO EFFECT from LEFT & RIGHT CHANNELS has been lost with the substitution of the CONVENIENCE of highly portable digital sound. Digital sound is MONO or MONAURAL as opposed to analog which can be made into Spatial and High Fidelity STEREO with LEFT & RIGHT SIGNALS. Ask your parents or much older people about this.....or people at your Vinyl record shop if there is someone over the age of 55 there! Further, even very fine young musicians born in the 1990's MIX THEIR AUDIO OUTPUT FOR THE INFERIOR DIGITAL SOUND OF COMPUTER SPEAKERS...They know it too. Sad...So, very sad to me. Also, use a proper stereo cleaner with a very small proper brush to clean the STYLUS ("Needle") of the Cartridge held by the Tone Arm. You need to keep that STYLUS ("Needle") clean and dust and debris free. Do not drag the STYLUS on the Turntable Pad as you do at 5:40. Yikes! Finally, back in the 1970's, as soon as I would buy a Vinyl record, I would completely tear off the plastic shrink wrap (or any plastic) of the album sleeve because it can shrink and expand with the temperature and humidity of the room and WARP THE VINYL RECORD! Yes, I love my Vinyl records and Stereo! So, even though you have MONAURAL sound and not spatial Stereo....ENJOY THE MUSIC !!! The music is still enhanced with the retro 1970's components you are buying.

@@jayleon2080 : The Analogue Out jack on the back of the AT-LP60XBT is a 3.5mm STEREO out put....the player even comes with a 3.5mm-to-2x RCA connectors; Red for Right, White for Left. If the cable is missing (due to 'refurbished'), then the correct cable can easily be purchased in most shops that sell any kind of audio/CDs/records.... heck, even my local Tesco supermarket sells a 6-foot 3.5 to 2x RCA connector cable! So, no, that wonderful Stereo sound ISN'T missing; it IS there, you just need the right cable (supplied with new factory-sealed players).

Hello to Dan the look on your face when you were listening to your record is the look I always get when I listen to my records I grew up in the days of records late 60's till present after a hard poop filled work week on fridays till sunday I will try to listen to my records I grew up in the city of NJ being of hispanic descent I grew to love my father's music the area I grew up in gave me soul and jazz when in high school hads a partime job at a record store I grew up with rock music but working at the store made me love it just as much ,li was where I was introduced to a great stereo system ,a proper turntable with mag cartridge fine sounding speakers and amp and on friday nites we use to have a DJ mixing records to draw in more cust. ,cd's were ok I always found them a little harsh sound wise to me they were kind of cold ,a record album to me was warmer it had info the pics of band members were bigger it felt more personal ,also if you can in the future you should hook up your TT to a set of powered speakers with bass and treble controls bluetooth is ok but you will hear even more on a set of good sounding speakers ,I use buetooth at work so as not to bother my coworkers but when i am home my speakers and my turntables and amp & equalizer I will go to them and have a great time ,very glad I saw your vid and by accident but I wish you a lot of fantastic memories ,I think music is goog for the soul JRo📀
