Everyone forgets the value of iron remover! Happy to see this tip, but on my cars I spray the iron remover on, let set briefly, spray off, then do what you showed to clay off. Why? Because any little bit you can get to dissolve and wash out without wiping is preferred. I understand the “we’re buffing after this step anyways” mentality, however, the less correction I need to do the better. You never know🤷♀️, you might only need to use a fine pad and lighter polish if you do it this way. Meaning…more clear coat left for next time!

Would this make more scratches in the paint though because iron remover takes the particles off of the paint and the clay towel will pickup those particles and mar the surface
@diydetailofficial2 жыл бұрын
Not with proper lubrication, technique, and a perforated clay towel as demonstrated here. Iron remover works to soften the edges of the metal particles, it doesn’t fully dissolve them. Mechanical action like provided by the clay towel is needed to actually remove them.

@Tierone1337 Жыл бұрын
There will always be some scratching when you clay it . Clay towel is the same because the hard particles get stuck in the clay towel and you’re repeatedly rubbing it on the paint. At least with clay bar , the hard particles get covered when you knead the product with your hand . You will always have to paint correct with any clay bar or clay towel.

I would say not to return it to the bucket mainly because you don't want to contaminate the rinseless if you're still washing the car. You absolutely can, but you can also clay and then let it continue to work without rinsing off paint as you go to the next panel. So you get the dwell time just on the back end
@joelpasserell45252 жыл бұрын
@@diydetailofficial What reason would there be to letting it dwell after already using the clay? In this scenario, the clay towel has already pulled the contaminates, including any iron particles, from the paint. So I would think that letting it dwell beyond that point wouldn't add any other benefit accept for allowing the smell to linger longer and IDK of anyone who would want that! For more efficiency, after washing with rinseless & spraying iron remover, while you're in the iron remover dwell period, I hop to the next panel and hit that with the rinseless spray pre wash, sponge wipe with rinseless & spray iron remover, then go back to 1st panel to clay with the dwelled iron remover and pressure wash 1st panel. By that time the 2nd panel is now ready for clay towel & rinse. The just repeat on next 2 panels, working way around car to completion.
@diydetailofficial2 жыл бұрын
The reason for dwelling is to remove the staining caused by the iron on the paint.
@joelpasserell45252 жыл бұрын
@@diydetailofficial I agree with the thought of letting it dwell prior to claying, but once you spray the iron remover and you're rubbing the clay towel over the paint, that's removing the iron particles and any rust staining & contaminants that are on the paint surface. After the clay towel there should be nothing left but to rinse the panel. I don't see how any staining would be left on the paint after using the clay towel. So if nothing left on paint after clay towel/iron remover use, i just don't see a need for any additional Iron remover dwell time(& addtl. stink time). At that point, rinse and move on, no?🤔

Why would I do that? The iron remover would lift out the iron particles from the clear coat and then I’d rub them into the paint causing marring. This ain’t no kitchen sponge foam, if you’ve ever heard one in hand, and use it with the polymers it was supposed to be used with, your mind will be blown. I don’t know how, but it just works. You should always rinse the iron remover off before clay barring. It doesn't dissolve the iron, it just softens its surface of the iron particle to release from the paint you still risk putting more scratches in the paint while clay barring it to remove it since you're using an abrasive to remove an abrasive. Using water is much less abbrasive to remove the iron than the clay bar, mit, rag. It very well could just create more work for you on the correction stage. Just use the clay bar and clay lube like it's supposed to be used. I get time is money, but why potentially create more work for yourself?

I have to agree with Yvan here. Been using only rinseless here for 8 years. The rinseless has more lubrication and tends to pull more dirt off. Waterless on the other hand will scratch if it's dirtier than just a light dust layer. Rinseless is still washing a panel. I use a keg and preload the panel then wipe it. Unlike Yvan who uses a rinseless sponge, I use edgeless high GSM towels and don't dip them back in the bucket so the water stays clean. I have used both and just like using towels since they get into small creases easier and tend to grab more dirt in my experience. Both work well just depends on what you like.

Rinseless and waterless are 2 very different things, Rinseless is the safest way to maintain your car.

Hell no don’t do this, where the heck are you driving where there’s iron on the paint. You only need Rinsless wash, it’s a good lube. Clay bar is best . Stuff will stick to clay towel and it will become a sand paper. Clay bar you can knead the product and get a new surface . And it removes everything from the surface. The iron remover is just marketing unnecessary product . Maybe for wheels but not for the body

Dude, try it before trying to dismiss new technology with old thoughts. Clay bars are dead.

Tairone, iron deposits come from the brakes on the car itself primarily. I suggest you try a clay towel, it’s a very different technology in comparison to a clay bar. The iron remover in this scenario is serving 2 purposes, helping to remove the iron, and as a clay lube.

Just wash your car

Even a car that gets washed frequently eventually gets contaminated.

Iron remover. Wash. Then clay with clay lube

That’s another way. DIY Detail Iron Remover makes a amazing clay lube. Also it’s best to wash before applying iron removers, as they are not equipped to deal with oils. By washing first your iron remover will be more efficient.
