I chop into wedges, massage with a little coconut oil and herbs n spices and bake until crisp at 200'C 25 mins done. Its the tastiest way atleast for me. Its probably healthier at lower temps but takes 2-3x as long. I also like steam them mash :) Pressure cooker is said to retain nutrients better than other cooking methods. Although i think raw is best because you can eat sweet potatoes raw. I blend them up in smoothies to replace carrots sometimes never had a problem.

i don't bake anything, i typically just put sweet potatoes in a slow cooker as part of a soup that contains, rice, beans, vegetables, etc. if you want to eat the sweet potato whole you can simply take it out of the rice and bean soup thing whole and eat it that way. baking just dehydrates and wrecks the foods.

Emanuela Davis I don't use it as a primary cooking method, but microwaves have been around since the early 80's at least. If you do a search, like all things in nutritional science, you'll find arguments on both sides, the majority of which not only say its safe, but does not destroy nutrients. "When microwaves are absorbed by food containing water, it causes the water molecules to vibrate. This produces heat. Microwaves do not use x-rays or gamma rays, and they do not make food radioactive. Microwave ovens can cook food, but do not otherwise change the chemical or molecular structure of it", cancer.org

Thanks for the info, but like I said I would rather not take any more chances with them....I have one for a few years and while it was convenient I really didn't use it much....lots of arguments for against....I am going with the against ...lol cheers mate.

Does it matter that sweet potatoes cost 4 times higher than regular potatoes, doc? What's the dramatic difference in nutrition that worths the extra cost?Almost none Regular potatoes still count as one of the most healthy vegetable that everyone can have access to. Unfortunately, most people eat potatoes in the form of greasy French fries or potato chips, and even baked potatoes are typically loaded down with fats such as butter, sour cream, melted cheese and bacon bits. Such treatment can make even baked potatoes a potential contributor to a heart attack. But take away the extra fat and deep frying, and a baked potato is an exceptionally healthful low calorie, high fiber food that offers significant protection against cardiovascular disease and cancer.
