Little late, but you can make a slip knot and chain two, while only putting your stitches in the first stitch (hopefully that makes sense)

This is a more complicated than necessary tutorial with making an “x” and all that. The way I do it there’s no need for that. Just wrap once (or twice for a more sturdy MR), hook under 1 (2) loops and grab the last loop with the hook over bringing yarn under all loops. Finish with a slst and done. Hope that makes sense.

This is the method I usually use but I normally let the tail hang and then weave it in later. Crocheting around it seems like a good idea tho! I will try that next time.

This is the way I do it as well, I just loop around all 4 fingers and grab the yarn that needs to be held with my thumb, gives a bit more wiggle room to work, especially with chunky blanket yarn.

@@portlyminnow8402 I know your comments a little old though I think I know what your problem is. If you’re using plush yarn then it’s a lot harder to pull the tail and the yarn can break. However using regular yarn makes it a lot smoother also when using regular or plus yarn it doesn’t matter always make sure that you’re crocheting into the two pieces of yarn the one that has the tail end and the circle part

That’s not a magic circle and leaves a pretty sizable hole in the center of your crochet which is why most amigurumi artists prefer a magic loop option. But that definitely does work!
