Lower 48 is thee only trip to make. I’d rather sit down at my kitchen table with a cup of coffee, break out my Old School Rand McNally Road Atlas, take out a fine point sharpie, and have fun over several nights, mapping out my own trail, the stops I’d love to take, the sites and National Parks I’d love to ride thru, places I might like to stay two or three nights or longer if I choose, making a majority of my trip ridden on old rural two lane sweepers, with as little Interstate travel as possible unless I absolutely need to. That’s how I believe one really sees our epic landscape, meets great people, enjoys genuine conversations. The prep and homework prior, is half the fun. It wouldn’t be a race for me, no time restraints. I get back home when I feel I’ve seen everything I wanted to see, experienced what I wanted to enjoy out of this trip, and leave space for some new destination I might want to call Home one day.

I have not visited all of these sites, but then again, some of them I have no interest in visiting. Places out West tend to be far more impressive although the historical significance of places in the East make them important to visit ... at least once. For example, I've been to the Grand Canyon (north and south rims) at least a half dozen times, but I've only been to the Statue of Liberty once. But this is an interesting list and interesting idea. I could do this in far less time than 2 months! In 2018, my wife and I did a 5,000 mile loop around the West that took 13 days -- with hotel stops every night. We took in the Precious Moments Chapel (MO), Texas Motor Speedway, the Marfa (TX) lights, Tombstone, Mesa and Phoenix AZ, Hoover Dam, Vegas for the WSOP, the Grand Canyon North Rim, Conifer Mountain (CO), and Dodge City KS.

I’ve wanted to do this for decades. I’m from the UK. I’m fascinated by the US. It’s so huge with an abundance of things to see. I’d love to stick to rural areas rather than cities. I said to my wife that when I retire (March 25) we will start on the east coast and meander our way across with time being no object. She then left and shacked up with another bloke. Given that, most of my pension lump sum will be used to buy her out of the house. Typical. My one dream in tatters. Saying I’m absolutely gutted is an understatement. Hey ho. It’ll just have to be these videos 😢😢😢

Should also put the price of afmissions at all the sites $$$$! Besides the additional cost of campgrounds, diesel/gas, tolls and propane refills an RVer would have to take a loan out! I avoid large cities with my camper vam where many of these sites are. I am retired, on a fixed income and travel across the U.S. andI stay at BLM land, Flying J truck stops Walmarts , etc., to save money. I also have four solar panels on my camper van to save money too. Lots of beautuful places to see and people to meet without going to expensive tourist traps.
