My blackberry and raspberry plants are just beginning to fruit, so I’ll do this as they ripen. I have taken to using this method for store bought blackberries and raspberries. Whenever I find a good price, I’ll buy a few more containers than usual. Over the course of a couple days I am able to get them all frozen and bagged up. My wife likes to chill her yogurt in the freezer - while the yogurt is chilling, we put the frozen fruit in a bowl on the countertop. By the time the yogurt is ready, the fruit is perfectly thawed.

Vacuum seal the frozen berries: When you have taken out the majority of the air (before they are crushed) hit the seal button and you are done. I do it all the time with frozen bread etc so it doesn't crush.

We freeze our berries exactly that way using trays..... I always use vacuum sealer once their frozen...on our sealer the vacuum/seal button just hit it a second time in the vacuum process at about %70 and it stops vacuuming and seal's the bag... definitely helps prevent freezer burn

A couple of things: If you don't stare at them to hard, you won't see the bugs. Think of the bugs as flavor enhancers, kind of like pepper.

I freeze my berries loosely as well. I do vacuum seal them, though, and it doesn’t crush them. You can’t just grab a handful, though. I spray mine with an organic spray for spotted wing drosophila, so I wash mine first.

Beautiful crop, I like your method of growing blackberrie bushes in those plastic drums keeping the plants contained from spreading to unwanted area's and also looks like you may be able to space the plants out a little better for growing and picking. Thx for sharing. The seed is mentioned in several key places in Scripture Genesis 1:12 Creation Genesis 7:3 Noah Genesis 17:7-9 Abraham. The the last book in the Old Testament Malachi, the last Chapter 4, the last verse 6 specifically the KJV 😢 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. The Seed is the future through its direction and sustainability.

Thanks for the scripture reference. Spacing the tubs out a little bit also gives them better air circulation, and probably helps with disease control.

Those are some nice berries. When you got your Ponca I also got 48 plants. Mine have been ripening for over a week now. I’m in 9A not too far from you in SW Louisiana. The Ponca are really sweet but I have a tremendous big problem here. They are loaded with potato and stink bugs. Neem oil isn’t doing any good. County agent has not gotten back to me with a solution. They may just ruin my first year yield.

Most times I do NOT wash. IF you DO wash, make sure you lay them on a towel so they are completely dry before you freeze them or they will be a clump That's why I don't freeze The consensus online is mixed ... some wash... some don't

I have 18 plants in containers. I will probably get 15 gallon bags of berries or something like that You should expect a gallon of berries per plant when they are mature, and taken care of. Hope that helps, alan

The thornless blackberries I have growing are flavorless and tart. I don't remember the type. I'm looking for a sweet flavorful blackberry to replace these. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Some taste difference may be attributed to your climate. The Prime Ark Freedom berries have a great taste.

Nope. I think ALL new blackberry varieties are "patented" now and should not be sold unless licensed to propagate them I'm not licensed :(

They need soaking overnight (approx 12 hrs) as they’re riddled with internal parasites… this makes them believe they’re drowning and come out.

I don't Some do... but you must dry them completely before freezing or they will clump together
