Man... I decided to start eating healthy about 3 years ago. I had no clue it would evolve into one of my most involved hobbies, preparing everything from scratch, cutting up and weighing out portions of produce and meat, stocking weeks worth of food at a time. Never in a million years would I of guessed this would be something I'd ever be interested in, but damn I've been enjoying it the last few years. Thanks to channels like these, I've learned so much.

Great video. I'm a bulk buyer and cook. So items stay for longer periods of time. So for this reason I'm a big fan of my food saver vacuum machine. I can keep meat up to a year without any freezer burn. Its a big investment in the beginning, but I think it's worth it.
@GenesisMuseum4 жыл бұрын
If you freeze in a deep freezer rather than a frost-free freezer, meat and most other products will last not only for a year but literally forever.

I have done this same technique for years and yes, it’s perfect - also takes up less room in the freezer. I do however, double bag.
@manafro27145 жыл бұрын
great tips! you can squeeze out the air by slowly submerging the bag in water, too. not sure how difficult it would make it to spread the meat out evenly though. maybe you could spread it out first, and when you're about to finish, submerge it and seal it up, making sure no water leaks in. that way all air pockets in the meat itself would get removed.
@HeronCoyote12349 ай бұрын
I’ve been doing the flat pack method for years now. It allows you to break off only as much ground meat/soup/sauce/stewed beans/rice or small pasta as you need. If you’re not comfortable having the bag stand on its own, put it in a two-cup measuring cup and fold the excess over the lip of the cup. This not only makes the bag sturdier, it also makes sure the bag is only about half full.

Do you have tips on freezing chicken breasts and other single serve bulky foods? This is what I currently do: I wrap each piece tightly in cling wrap, toss it in a freezer bag (usually about 5-6 packets fit), roll it to squeeze out the air, close, mark, and freeze. We’ve had chicken and pork last over a year w/no compromise on flavor or texture. When someone 🤨 forgets to thaw, we put it in an aluminum bowl filled with water. Quick thaw.

Squishing ground meat too much can make the meat/texture tough (kind of like over kneading wheat dough), the proteins get tightened and tangled. So, I'd try to flatten the bags of ground meat with as little hard pressing as possible.

The only thing I would add is to not use a frost free freezer, the freezer that is part of every fridge freezer combo out there. These defrost on a regular basis and greatly decrease the time that the food can last. A chest freezer without a defrost cycle greatly, greatly extends the life of frozen foods. In fact, I would recommend only having a fridge in the kitchen and a medium capacity chest freezer in the garage. This serves two purposes: extending the freezer life of your food and increasing fridge capacity in your kitchen.

Great, straight forward, informative and logical, no nonsense with minimal annoying music in the background (although still too much/loud) it doesn't make the video more interesting or better despite the misconception among you tubers) lowering the sound minimizes the annoyance though. I usually give my food in the ziplock bag a little fold over with the slack on bottom and the food on top, that way the weight of the food itself squeezes out all the air. No need to massage the air out.

I have heard that defrosting food at room temperature is not good. I don't know about aluminium trays but I think it's best to defrost in the fridge.
@npip995 жыл бұрын
Defrosting at room temperature is fine. What's not okay is leaving anything at room temperature for 2-4 hrs or longer, particularly dairy or meat. So they'll commonly say "don't defrost at room temperature" but what they mean is "don't leave it at room temperature for 3 hrs, because bacteria can grow". If your item defrosts quickly, then it's fine.

it does. I've done that for years. (two layers of plastic, and crimp the foil to be VERY tight, including both ends.) I found some steaks wrapped that way in back of our freezer that were (don't gag) two years old. they were still perfect ... and very yummy.
