just share a trick, I used to use volume meter by wavesaudio, set it on -18dB as a 0 and don't forget klick the mono button. you can set your kick on -3dB, snare 0dB and your vocal at +3dB. and there you go, you got a nice balance of 3 important elements at -12dB on your master fader.

In the tracks ive made the Hats are much much Louder so its no wonder they remained to be instrumentals (or at least s.t. to do with it) & likely too busy to fit vocals on except for dubby samples & snippets here & there. This will surely serve to be a guide line on tracks destined to accompany vocals & yeah im watching vids 2-3 times & taking notes, so it all registers before even applying these techniques directly in the non organized way id been. Knowing that I have a few hurdles to overcome namely one being the art of listening.
