I found that packing my puffy in a buff and using it as a pillow was a complete game changer for me. It replicates the comfort, warmth and noise reduction of my pillows at home. I usually stack it on top of something like my pack to get it higher or take another buff and repeat the same process with another piece of clothing.

Good tips, man. I'm getting into motocamping so I'm currently evaluating all the tent, pillow and pad options. I'm also a side sleeper.

The most ultralight option I’ve learned is to take two Benadryl and then your sleep setup doesn’t matter 🤣

I'm a side sleeper and just can't get comfortable in a hammock. I just use a high quality 4" sleeping pad + pillow and sleep really well in a tent.

I started getting the best sleep when I went to the rectangular 25" pad, rectangular wide bag that can zip open from the bottom so I can stick one foot out. I really didn't start camping until my 30's, so I'm used to having a lot of space. I don't think I could ever handle a mummy style sleeping bag. Great tips!

I switched from a mummy bag to a quilt because assuming a mummy position was definitely not how I sleep at home. In addition to the EE quilt, I sleep in my puffy, down pants, and down booties. All of that slippery clothing, in addition to obviously adding warmth, allows me to move around easily during the night without pulling on the quilt and creating drafts.

I always fall asleep on the recliner at home so guess I'm just bringing a camp chair and a blanket.

I think your suggestion on that pillow will be a lifesaver and I’ve used the noise app on my phone in winter also.

Thx for the tip about REI allows you to try out their sleeping pads. I was thinking of going there too 👍

I use quilts but my 20 degree set up is with a SD Backcountry bed. Best of both a sleeping bag and a quilt. Perfect for those that do move around while sleeping and have larger frames that feel constricted in a mummy bag.

All valid points. I’m a side sleeper and I agree strongly with your opinion on the pad and pillow. I do prefer a sleeping bag but my EE quilt I can clip around and under me so I’m tucked in tight. I roll all over. Yes can be difficult at times to pay attention to this while you are sleeping/rolling around but it’s worked for me. So far. If you have a wide quilt (I have regular) it should fit around you fine. Big downside, no hood for my head. That’s what I miss the most. Good video!

“If I don’t have air slots in that thing, I’m a much happier camper” 😂 good one! I also will play white noise, that really helped me out when getting used to my ground dwelling set up.

I prefer my hammock but just got the Duplex for the Colorado trail this summer. Hoping my Uberlite will work out. I also have the thin Gossamer gear pad to add a little .5 R.

I just bring a real pillow at this point. The extra weight is meaningless if it means I actually sleep vs fighting with some dinky camp pillow.👍
