Thanks Emma for your useful tips, especially reading the same book. I used to wonder whether I should read books in my native language or read only just English books. Now I know that I will boost my morale when reading the same book in both languages. More importantly, I will not get lost in translation. The things I learned from your lesson today: - Read things you like every day, making it a ritual for you - Read the same book - Don’t get stuck in new words while reading. Instead, try to guess their meaning in the contexts.

I am reading a book called the road to character. It talks about your eulogy virtues(like honesty, bravery, kindness) that gets talked about at your funeral and résumé virtues, the ones you list on your résumé to get a job. It says that most people would agree that eulogy virtues are more important but our culture and education system encourages us to develop résumé virtues. Finally, it shows us ways to grow eulogy virtues in ourselves.

As an old man I liked to see The Old Man And the Sea is on your list. Some literary critics consider it as Hemingway's magnum opus. I read it (translated) when I was a teenager (at some point in the past near to the 8th century BC). I agree with you recommending John Steinbeck. He's among the best american writers of all time. From his autorship I read The Grapes of Wrath (translated). I'll try to read Freakonomics in english. Presently I'm reading The Conquest of the Incas by John Hemming, a superb narrative history about the fall of the south american precolumbian empire. I'm grateful to you taking time to make interesting and instructive videos such like this. God bless you for your kindness.

Animal Farm and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (mostly talks between kids). I reckon it really depends on your taste. Yet if you are not confident enough, books with dialogues make your life much easier, otherwise you might get lost with so many adjetives.

Hi Emma :) Thank you one more time for your endless effort. Your lessons always help me to improve my language skills. Well, I like reading English texts. I read English newspapers every day. My preferences are The Guardian, The İndependent and The Sun. İn my opinion, reading newspapers is one of the great ways to boost the vocabulary. İt also helps us to be familiar with the culture. İt is highly essential in learning a language. I am also a bookworm.:) However ı read in a wide range of contexts, sometimes ı take a recreational approach to read:) As for the book recommendations, ı am a big fan of Harry Potter So, the first book that ı can recommend is the series of Harry Potter. I can also recommend the detective novels of Sherlock Holmes and Robert Galbraith ( the nickname of JK Rowling. Cuckoo, Sİlkworm and Career of Evil. Furthermore, for those who like travel and discovering the new cultures, my advice would be The İtinerary of Marco Polo. For İntermediate learners, the short versions of Jack London's novels could be great. By the way, good luck in Lingoda Marathon. I hope you will push your Spanish skills to the next level ;)

Your video is good for beginners, it is comprehensible for me even without a transcription. In my opinion, there is much better to listen to an audiobook or a podcast with the transcription. It can improve simultaneously an elocution and a vocabulary. Only reading, particularly silent without listening can strengthen the bad pronunciation.

I absolutely agree! (It's DANGEROUS to only learn new words by reading in English - it's important to HEAR them spoken too!) As your English improves over time, try to listen without a transcript - this will help you train your listening skills!

Thank you so much for your wonderful reading tips! I read "The life-changing magic of tidying up" by Marie Kondo in Japanese which is my native language first. And then I started to read the English translated version out to my husband. Because it's translated by an American translator, it doesn't quite sound like Marie. And my husband who is a native English speaker from NZ finds a lot of American expressions that he hardly uses. We find that so interesting! Now we are sharing the fun of reading together. By the way, is green your favorite colour? It really really suits you! Have a beautiful day, Emma 💓

Hehe yes it is my favourite colour! Thank you! 💓 Did you prefer the Japanese version of Marie Kondo's book? And has she inspired you to tidy up? 😉

Now I create quotes my own 😜 Yes reading is good habit and I heard a quote that *all good leaders are good readers*. My sincere feeling about reading books sometimes is not good. I'd like to avoid it a couple of years ago... But I'm changing my mind because this is my desire today, speak and write English. However, I didn´t find my own cool book. For while I´m reading online news and at the same time I´m planning to dedicate much more time to read. Actually, I figured out now. Thank you, Emma!

Thank, from your new video.. I think it's more important to increase your vocabulary, but if you always read the same kind of books, it's a problem. I see these videos and I understand a lot of this, but when I change another type I have more problems ... understand that the video is amazing for me .. congratulations !! 😸
