Playing until your fingers bleed and then some is pure dedication and love of music! I remember preparing for auditioning for a new band, learning songs until the wee hours, forgetting to eat, forgetting to drink, just practicing. The auditions always went well and I got rehydrated there as well 🍻

Playing Holy Wars with fingers is crazy. I could probably pull it off somewhat with a pick but with fingers I'm far from being up to that speed.

I know it gave you that blood blister but, I really do enjoy seeing the fluency with which you play those fast parts. I'd like to incorporate that technique. Also, thanks for reinvigorating my enjoyment of my Corvette. It's a little noisy so I kind of stopped messing with mine compared to my soapbar basses, but it's a really beautiful instrument, and you make yours growl.

Damn I feel ya! As a metal bass player who also can't really play with a pick I had to go through so much (blood) blisters in the beginning. Was playing for 10 years already, but came from a rock cover party band and also had a year of hiatus before joining my metal band... suddenly playing like 190+ bpm riffs alongside the guitars really took it's toll until I got used to it after like 9 months... now it's just like anything else.

Hey man Love this Channel and your work specifically. I just bought my first bass and started jamming and was really wondering how you get your right hand technique up to the speed of sonds like one, the trooper and domination from pantera. Any tips to get my right hand fingerpicking faster? I gotta say too I played guitar for years so it's definately not like I'm starting at 0. So I wouldn't exactly say I'm a beginner level musician.

As for me it's essential to figure out the scale, chord progressions and chord shapes. I use tabs to jumpstart the learning process, but they are easily forgettable and don't allow for improvisation

How do you slow down songs? I know how to do it in KZbin but then it becomes incredibly distorted

VLC can pitch shift. But even if you cannot then half the speed and it will drop and octave then consider pushing that thru a pitch shifter (ie on a cheap Zoom pedal) - double the pitch and you are back to original pitch at half speed.
