Gents like you are much needed in 2023.. Loved your channel for years now.. I agree...cannot go wrong with Compass Box products... My list for 2022 is all whiskies bottled years ago...discontinued.... Life here in the jungle.. A good example I found a Victoriana a few months ago..original release..Not new. My Irish winner was Redbreast12 cask strength...2017...2 bottles were not enough.. Happy New Year ... Such a fine gent.. Cheers

Great vid! I haven't had a single one of those. 2022 was my Compass Box year for sure; I tried three. I still need an Orchard hose, but I'm having trouble finding it in stock. Nice list! I like that your bourbon picks aren't following the herd. I don't think the Bulleit is cask strength at 104pr (just a SiB : ) My local guy has a store pick too for $60 so maybe I'll grab one. I heard you mention Two Stacks as runner up. The cask strength is incredible if you haven't tried it, you should. Cheers!

Nice comprehensive list but holy smokes! Where did you find the Kilkerran 8 for under $100. Both my Sherry and Port were around $120, or so, and have seen some retailers list for $140.

Fluke. I think the retail on it was $110. I am sure if I find the port or whatever is next, it will be 140 or more :(

Good find, lucky you! haha The Port and Sherry came out at the same time in 2022. $110 would be the lowest I've heard of, glad you were able to scoop it up for that. What store, if you don't mind me asking. You can even give the initials, if you want.

@@LongCity I had no idea the port came out at the same time. I thought they were a year apart. I know I got this way back. I think in the fall of 2021. Does that sound right? No problem giving the store, but it is not a favourite. Only drive out when they have specific things. Imperial King Liquor in Spruce Grove. I was there a few months back and their prices were not what i remember. So ... only drop in if you are in the area!

@@LongCity Speaking of stores, all my "honey pots" have run out. I do the usual tour of Malts&Grains, Whisky Drop, Chateau, KegnCork, as they are all good people. However my regularily cheap stores have dried up. Now, I go out and simply visit 10 or so stores each week, hoping for a sale. It's somewhat fun, but not as fun as a few years back when you could always find some dusty!

Yah, I hear you. It's gotten popular and if you don't have to time to go during the week, in the mornings or middle of the day, the stores will be picked clean by the time you can make it. I'm in Calgary and can't imagine I will ever be in Spruce Grove haha. In 2022, Kilkerran released two versions of the 8 YO CS. You must have grabbed the previous year's release, when it was just the Sherry. I believe that's batch 5... maybe?! 56.9% ABV, correct? Anyway, I do agree with you and enjoy putting the boots on the ground and making the rounds from time to time. It's nice when the stores don't put everything online and the locals have to go about it manually and not just snipe things online.

Although not specifically a whiskey of the year I was just at a tour and tasting at the distillery of York in Toronto. A nice to my taste 100% rye grain Canadian whiskey. Also an interesting bottle design. As they are small boutique (their bottling table is four at a time) purchasing other then at their location may be difficult. I suspect sales are only Ontario based. Should you have the opportunity to test this product you might be interested. Ended 2020 with a whiskey never tasted before. 😊

Nice closing thoughts and sentiments. If you are taking suggestions for '23, I would love to see you take a look at some "malternatives." Cost and availability have not been great, for either Scotch or Bourbon. A big chunk of my whisk(e)y nerd friends have been dabbling in aged rums or tequilas. Love to see your take on a few. Where do you shop from Jon? I've been buying probably a third of my whisky from Alberta last year. Our lcbo in Ontario is horrible for selection and price.

I do a lot of purchasing from small places. However, the bigger shops I enjoy are Malts & Grains, Keg n Cork, and Chateau Louis. For prices and shipping, I also buy from BSW and Sierra Liquor.

That was one of the nicest year-end messages I think I've heard! It's so important to be considerate and respectful of others, and of the struggles folk are having within the workplace. People deserve better consideration and recognition, especially in public service professions like yours. Agree with you 100% about the Tomatin 14 Port, it's among my top favourites as well. I know Tomatin is one of the largest distilleries in the Highlands, over 5 million litres a year, yet they still manage to put out darned fine whiskys. Haven't tried most of the others you discussed. Thinking of possibly ordering from Sons of Van at some point, that rye sounds great! I have looked for the CR Winter Wheat here, but it's long gone from the shelves. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of price range is it out there?
