Great video and description of Rob. He is truly passionate about supplying us with our toys. Thanks.

Another great video, I've wondered if a web site exists which features the History - Year by year - of Robert's? If one should exist count me in for photos of the 125, 145, and 150 Formula boards , I also have a nice brochure of the late 90's models with full specs. Plus some interviews from back then. He really is a phenom, he took on and gained the admiration and 'awe' of the worlds top windsurfers with his early adoption of the AVS concept along with healthy cut outs in the tails A one man army VS the planets big boys.. And he won and he's still going!

It's my dream to create a full documentary on Rob. His full story deserves to be told. His skill and impact is so undervalued and he deserves all the credit and attention in the world.

Nice board. What length and Volumn is it ?
@westcoastwingfoil Жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul! The board is 24" wide and 4'8" tall. It's about 70L plus or minus. What are you riding?

dude, they are a $4000+ piece of resin encased foam. How can you keep talking about how this guy is doing it for the love and passion and fucking friend-making when he is making a small fortune. Have you ever seen a $4000. I hope that price includes the foil
@westcoastwingfoil Жыл бұрын
He literally doesn't make money on the boards he makes... Pricing looks very different when you are hand making everything. He spends 40+ hours per board. He uses the best materials which is more than just resin and foam. You're welcome to disagree as it does look expensive on paper. But I know him well and trust me, he is doing it for the passion and not for the cash. FYI the $4,000 is Canadian prices. Boards start at $3,000 USD.

It's amazing to have such a great board maker in BC. I do wish that he offered a cheaper range, but great quality comes at a great premium ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So true Hubert! It's a sad reality that we all aren't willing to pay for quality local work. It just means that we keep the lower quality, low wage, oversees supply chain growing. But I guess that's just the world we live in today!
@mysweethubert Жыл бұрын
@@westcoastwingfoil I don't think that we're not willing, we just can't afford it. I can barely afford tipping nowadays ;p
@westcoastwingfoil Жыл бұрын
@@mysweethubert It's a tough one and I'm included in this. If all gear was locally made and priced accordingly I think people would find a way. But so hard when budget is tight and cheaper options exist.

@West Coast Wing Foil i agree. Local quality comes at a price. Good thing we have other options that are just as good.

I would never spend that kind of money on a board. Since you don't ride any other boards or compare other boards at similar price points, I can hardly accept your endorsement for the best boards in the world.

Looks like nice boards but 3-4k for a custom? You say he's not in it to make money. That's a bit of a contradiction ✌️
@westcoastwingfoil8 ай бұрын
I hear you. But I've seen first hand the hours that and materials he puts into each board he makes and trust me he's not making a huge margin. Nothing close to a production board! It's the sad reality of locally and hand made products. If you compare them with production prices it doesn't come close in price. But it's 10x better when you compare quality and performance.

@@westcoastwingfoil I have a top shaper and I know many others who make customs price 1,500 or so. That's great if he can get 4k. Back in the windsurf days a Roberts board was gold but times change.
