Agreed. Heck even I don’t really like Jay and I feel Eminem’s catalog is way more enjoyable, but when it comes to an overall more consistent catalog, yeah I definitely have to give it Jay, though I don’t really enjoy it as much as Em’s because I can’t deny how hit and miss Em’s discography is. Some great albums like the aforementioned three classics from 1999-2002 as well as Relapse and then some misfires like Encore and Revival. Eminem is still a legend in rap.

2010: Rihanna - Loud this album is genuinely one of the best rnb records of the 2000s, excluding Free Spirit, CTRL, Loose, Starboy, The Diary of Alicia Keys, and Anti. where most albums this year wanted you to either feel shitty or get baked while listening to them, Loud just wants you to have fun. between What’s My Name? and California King Bed, this album is mad fun no matter what mood you’re in when you start listening to it. 2011: Lil Wayne - Tha Carter IV I have no real explaination for this one, just listen to Nightmares of The Bottom and Blunt Blowin. actually just listen to it front to back, it’s filled with bangers. 2012: Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid MAAD City the album is both insanely fun to listen to and introspective to a fault. my favorites are SAMIDOT, MAAD City, and Compton. the interlinked stories of pride, humility, hope, and loss are insanely good, and they just pull you in all the way through. whenever I need an 80 minute timer for whatever reason, this album will be my first thought. 2013 - Childish Gambino - Because the Internet Donald Glover is an actor first and a rapper last. where many Bino fans forget that, this album screams it in your face over lofi beats that are produced so well you’d think Jesus came back just to step in the studio and push Bino forward. Childish Gambino is a character played by Donald Glover, rather than just a stage name, and this albums overall writing and storytelling will immerse you into the character and the world better than any concept album I’ve ever heard. Childish Gambino is this generation’s MF Doom and I will accept no other answers. 2014: The Weeknd - Beauty Behind the Madness what at first appears as just a compilation of goofy songs the Abel slapped together and called it a day becomes a remarkable introspect of unhealthy rap culture, mental health, and selfishness. the lore behind The Hills paints a picture of Abel’s selfish behavior, while Earned It insists an inner desire to be better. the contrast between the insane whore that most people describe Abel as, and the love that Abel wishes he could correctly express is truly genius and deserves so much more than a few radio hits and being ignored by most of the hip hop community. 2015: Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly everything I have to say has been said before by people who do better than I could. 2016: Rihanna - Anti following the iconic Chris Brown controversy, Rihanna opens up about her shortcomings and comforts during the relationship, and if Indigo proved anything, it’s that Chris Brown 100% needed her. anyone should be able to connect to Anti. everybody has a person they love so much that it’s hard to adjust when they leave. 2017: Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. is it wickedness? is it weakness? you decide. 2018: Khalid - Free Spirit this album perfectly encapsulates the feeling of the first years of being an adult. sometimes, nothing feels better, sometimes, you’re in pain. either way, it’s all your fault. 2019: Travis Scott - ASTROWORLD there weren’t a lot of great choices for this year. I also debated putting Tyler the Creator’s Igor or Kehlani’s While We Wait here but I have to acknowledge that Sicko Mode is probably the safest song to play on aux since Still Dre came out. 2020: N/A this year sucked for hiphop, okay. I will say that I fucks with I’m Him by Kevin Gates and 1UP by T-Pain but neither one of them is AOTY material.
