@princessrachel51724 жыл бұрын
Cool. What's SPD, may I ask?
@alaurahwillow1554 жыл бұрын
@@princessrachel5172 Sensory processing disorder is when you don’t process senses properly. Sometimes this means that you experience them stronger than other people. This causes people to be oversensitive to the senses. It can affect every sense (smell, touch, hear, see & taste) or just some of them. For me it’s hearing, touch and seeing. Smelling and tasting isn’t really an issue for me. Me being over sensitive to hearing means I get distressed by loud noises or even noises that are not loud but to me they sound really loud to me. Also high-pitched noises can be distressing. If I know I’m going to somewhere which may be too loud for me I wear ear defenders that look like headphones but they block out noise. I also use them when I know they are going to be mowing the lawn where I live as that can be loud. Being sensitive to touch means that I hate people touching me and wearing certain fabrics or hot water is something I can’t cope with. I would always get in trouble for not doing the dishes in warm enough water as a kid. My parents would complain that the water was too cold. It also means that I can’t stand a lot of foods, even though the taste doesn’t bother me the texture of the food makes me feel sick and sometimes like gag if I try and eat it. With the sight it’s mainly bright lights, flashing lights and lots of things moving okay if I’m in a crowd and everyone is moving in different directions that can be quite stressful for me. Everyone experiences things in different ways and have different severity levels. It can be overwhelming and it can stop me being able to do things like go to parties, go shopping go to restaurants but there are things we can do to help ourselves. One thing is using a sensory deprivation tank like this as it gives us a break from the senses. Another is using soothing lights, scented candles and using a weighted blanket. Thank you for asking. Sorry for the huge text 😂

It’s actually a little different in real life. You don’t have to close the pod if you’re claustrophobic, you can opt to have different lighting if the darkness is too much, and you can have music if you want to. And there’s always an attendant button inside the pod to call someone in case of panic. The whole point of it is to relax, so you have full control over your environment.

The human mind is not adapted to total sensory deprivation. Many people experience hallucinations as a result. The brain can't accept a lack of input, so it makes it up.

It’s possible to fall into a state where the part of your body that controls most of your senses and muscles falls asleep, but your thinking mind and subconscious are awake. The sensory deprivation tank makes it super easy to fall into this state, but it’s possible just in your bed. It’s a pretty cool/terrifying experience!
@z.z.c19813 жыл бұрын
The writers try to promote a feminist message that women should also be encouraged to realise scientific achievements, but the contrast they draw between female scientists and female KZbinrs or make up artists is deeply offensive and inherently patriarchal. Being a KZbinr or a make up artist is nothing less successful than being a female scientist because feminism is really about breaking gender norms and enabling people the freedom to work any legal profession they'd like with equal pay and no judgement. The indication that being a scientist is noble and any other career choice is a failure is full of patriarchal prejudice and it needs to stop.
@juliamiller51203 жыл бұрын
The show throws things like that in all the time. They make fun of the liberal arts, humanities, and anyone really who isn’t a physicist. They rip so hard on Howard even thought he’s clearly more intelligent than the average person and they make sexist remarks toward the female characters and I think they do it to be intentionally offensive because Sheldon, Lenard, and Raj all have this superiority complex because they’re physicists. I don’t think it’s making fun of women. I think it’s making fun the guys because they think they’re better than everyone else.
@jamesdinius77692 жыл бұрын
