I really cringed at the Bono part. Him repeating "Jesus, Jew, Mohammed" just seemed like he had no idea of Judaism. He didn't know the major prophet of the Jews, so he just said Jew instead. Generation Cinema To me, it's the equivalent of when someone says they are colour-blind when it comes to someone's race. It's great you want even to view each other as equals, but in reality, you are keeping minorities in under-privileged situations. You need to recognize racial disparities in order to fix it. Saying "can't we just all get along" is telling people to shut up about their problems because it is seen as stirring up the peace. This is why I have a problem with catchphrase based solutions. More often than not, it's hurting the under-privilege and helping the privilege. This is coming from a guy who makes fun of the SJW mentality. However, this is one area I believe they are right.

Yeah I prefer the original design. The point was very clear and specific as it was targeting the 3 abrahamic religions who have been well lets face it, killing each other since whoever had the bright idea to come up with those beliefs in the first place. The newer version mucks it up and it looks a bit too jumbled. Still a good message though.
@dontaskwilltell63628 жыл бұрын
The fact each religion has been coexisting makes this almost unnecessary. People need to learn that you can't force people to be on board with everything so these campaigns are useless. If they kill each other off who really cares? After all each religion was piggy backed off of each other to become dominant. And no I am definitely not an atheist nor a theist.

Hit the dab
@johnb13918 жыл бұрын
"If they kill each other off who really cares?" A lot of people care. We are talking about other human beings here. Families torn apart because of a difference in faith. And in the case of the Abrahamic faiths, a difference in who is the most notable prophet. The same god, three different names. Three different names that have torn apart families for centuries. Religion is not going to be something that goes away (and if we get into that debacle we must ask if the eradication of religion would necessarily be a good thing. Whilst religion has been a justification of war, generally the religious reasons have merely been a ruse for political or financial reasons) but we can try to get people to get along. To get families from not being torn apart. So who cares? Probably the families that would fall victim to being torn apart if we don't learn to accept one another for our differences. But it's easy to say we shouldn't care when it isn't your family that might be one of the victims. I recommend you check out the poem "First they came" by Frank Niemoller.

I feel really irritated whenever I see the Coexist bumper sticker. It feels disrespectful, throwing the sacred symbols of various belief systems in a row to make a neat font. I know it sounds silly. His work is so much better than that dumb bumper sticker.
@quill99188 жыл бұрын
+jinitron its not about the Middle East being the center of the universe, it's about the Middle East being the topic that the artist was addressing. it would be kind of like somebody taking the painting of Washington Crossing the Delaware and tossing in a British flag because the British were involved (not a perfect analogy, but the best one I can think of atm)

And that's not all that they do and it doesn't even approach what influence the works of the long dead as well as the still alive have on the economy, the culture, public perception and just overall the live of the people. True, art isn't the only influence, but it's not as useless as it may seem at first and it doesn't take too much knowledge about the history of art (be it written, drawn, as music, dance, what have you) to know that it was-and is-to see that the presumption of inutility isn't justified in the slightest.

An analogy would be trying to treat the individual barriers is very important and needs to be done but is like treating the symptoms. Where as looking at ourselves and trying to change how we think is more like treating the disease.

I think the most critical part about the new coexist compared to the original is that it adds a peace sign and the gender e. Adding to it, there is technically only supposed to be religious symbols on there from the original context. The additional context is still relevant on its own, especially in the west, promoting peace for lifestyle choice. The context changes from one of religious coexistence to a more general harmony. The original represented three religions that have seen strife for centuries, even if it wasn't all inclusive, religion was the focus. I don't think the message is diluted from adding more either. They both have their place.

This is mostly correct. Copyright isn't limited to anything that uses words. The requirements for a valid copyright are 1) an original work of authorship; 2) fixed in a tangible medium of expression. That's pretty much it. There used to be formalities required by the law, but not anymore. Your copyright attaches as soon as those requirements are met. 17 USC sec. 102(a) provides a non-exhaustive list of copyrightable subject matter, and includes: literary works, musical works, dramatic works, pantomimes and choreographic works, pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works, motion pictures and other audiovisual works, sound recordings, and architectural works.

"Did you know that whenever you write a poem or story or even a paper for your class, or a drawing or other artwork, you automatically own the copyright to it...The copyright in a work of authorship immediately becomes the property of the author who created it at the moment it is put into fixed form. No one but the author can claim copyright to the work, unless the author grants rights to others in a written agreement (such as to the author's publisher or record company). Usually, you can tell who the author of a work is -- the person who created it." IE isnt that Polish guy still the copywrite holder, regardless of who got the legal copywrite. He can easily prove its creation, so it's still his. No?

I really like the original artists work. Post soviet Eastern European artwork is some of my favorite stuff. There is an amazing building covered with this type of art in Ljubljana Slovenia. The building is a compound composed of a hostel, a music venue, and I believe it also has an art gallery. I had the pleasure of playing there in 2016, and I wish one day to go back because that city is gorgeous, and the art is even better.
@balthazarmayrena6008 жыл бұрын
The point of art is for the viewer to interpret it and relate it to his/her life. I understand his frustration about not getting his due credit and the "defacing" of his creation but it's helping spread positivity and love all around. I can't believe that something that denotes good and equality has so much controversy and hate surrounding its creation.

Why do ultra conservative people bother to watch videos by Vox, Seeker Daily, School of Life, Buzzfeed, Vice etc. if they're just going to complain about how it's "too liberal"? Go somewhere else then. And if there aren't any conservative info channels out there go make your own. You're not so important that people need to make videos catering to your perspective. Literally Go. Some. Where. Else.

it makes me uncomfortable how religions can't really co-exist, because they contradict each other. We pretend to be accepting of all beliefs, but we secretly believe that everyone else is wrong. How much longer will this go on until there is another religious war?

"We pretend to be accepting of all beliefs," I am universally accepting of whatever bullshit people need to believe so that they can function as an active part of society. "It wasn't until the Ottoman Empire that the crescent moon and star became affiliated with the Muslim world. When the Turks conquered Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453, they adopted the city's existing flag and symbol. Legend holds that the founder of the Ottoman Empire, Osman, had a dream in which the crescent moon stretched from one end of the earth to the other. Taking this as a good omen, he chose to keep the crescent and make it the symbol of his dynasty. There is speculation that the five points on the star represent the five pillars of Islam, but this is pure conjecture. The five points were not standard on the Ottoman flags, and are still not standard on flags used in the Muslim world today." P.S. Get your facts straight. It's used today by Muslim countries, but that's not the same as calling it the symbol of Islam, like the star of David is the symbol of Judaism.

Maybe the design works better with out the hippy symbol and Wicca symbol but I disagree entirely with sentiment that you can't take something and improve upon it. in a broad stroke, this is fundamentally what we as humans have been doing with art and technology since the first cave paintings and spears. More to the point, altered designs tend to be subjected to classical Darwinian forces. Those design changes that resonate more with people will be shared more and those that do not will be skipped over.
