EPIC before + after | GUEST BATHROOM EXTREME MAKEOVER! | DIY + VINTAGE DECOR | Remodel On a Budget
Last year we sold our little starter home and bought a fixer upper on 5 acres.
Renovations and remodels have been quite the adventure here and we are smack dab in the middle of a big one- what we are calling our flooded to fabulous DIY guest bathroom remodel.
In part 1 of this two part episode, we dealt with the aftermath of a broken pipe, fixed up water damage and mold, gave the room a fresh coat of paint, replaced flooring, vanity, light fixtures and sink and got started on process of doing a DIY board and batten wainscoting wall. We’ll be finishing that project in this part 2 along with adding all the finishing touches and decor. I was able to thrift several vintage items and DIY a few others to complete this space. Turning it from a flooded builder-grade nightmare to a homey, classic and dreamy guest bathroom space.

A tip I learnd when I got my glass shower: first,clean the glass really well and dry it with a squeegie so that it's spotless. Then take a microfiber cloth and drizzle a good amount of the rinsing aid of the dishwasher on it. then apply the rinsing aid on the glass from top to bottom in like a wavey movement. First it looks blurry but it dries and it looks amazing spotless as the water just rinses off easily and I dont have to clean the glass shower every day, only like every three weeks or so :-) lots of love from Germany

We did that in our bathroom and it looks sooooooo good!!! It really puts the jewelry on the fixtures in a room. You guys did an awesome job on the bathroom…it looks awesome….I love the look of board and Batton on any wall… we put that up on all 4 walls in our bedroom and a separate bathroom and it’s beautifull…We love it a lot!!

I like the idea of the curtain over the door. I love a shower door bc then water doesn't get everywhere but a curtain looks so much nicer and covers the clear glass incase someone just walks in while another kiddo is showering.

That's what I did in my bath shower. Shower curtain please. Although if you wax your doors it repelled the water minus the water stains but I like the feeling of privacy with the curtain with the glass doors.

Hey, just a tip! You can use the caulking in the nail holes. Just put a little dab where the holes are and use your finger or spatula to wipe off the excess. I use a damp paper towel. AND YOU DONT HAVE TO SAND IT!!! Just paint it. 😃

Yes! This is a great tip for a much faster process and I've done this before in our old house. I prefer the wood filler as it gives a much smoother seamless end result, though!

Love the board and battan. Great job on the bathroom. We removed our glass doors completely for the very same reason. Hung the tension rod and curtain and it works perfectly and looks so much better too

I absolutely love it! The shower curtain actually softens the room and makes it more cozy and warm feeling. Showers and tubs can often make a room feel sterile and cold. Great job and congrats

For the faucet, think of one with handles instead of round knobs. They both turn towards the tap, that is why your knobs turn inwards even though they are a different style. Hope that helps and makes sense. The bathroom turned out beautifully!

Totally love the shower curtain idea! We have a glass door insert in our main bathroom in the tub. I do not like it at all and although it's in great shape...I'm constantly dealing with the water spots etc. We do not want to remove and redo anymore areas in our home because this is not our forever home and hopefully we'll locate and purchase property with acreage in the next year. I'm so going to hang a curtain there to give the bathroom a little "pick me up" as well as cover the doors! Thanks Natalie...that bathroom turned out spectacular! Your thrift finds were perfect!!

It's so beautiful! The shower curtain was definitely the right idea. It totally changes the whole feel. I had to smile when I saw you sewing the shower curtain pieces together. Normally you would put both pieces together with the sides you will see touching each other and then sew along the edge then open it up. That way you don't see the raw edge or the stitching. That would make an actual seam rather than just overlapping the fabric and sewing. I just thought I would share in case it comes in handy making curtains for Hailey's room. 🙂

Yes! I did it this way on purpose because the material is thick and the type of seam you’re describing would be too chunky with those extra layers. I essentially “sealed” off the edge by doing a zig zag stitch over the raw edge. Not perfect but it works for me!

if you also put up a fabric liner, the fabric liner can stay wet and keep the outside curtain dry. Fabric liners can be thrown in the wash! Just place the fabric liner on the same hooks as the curtain. I have them in my home and they work great!! Beautiful bathroom makeover. You both accomplished a great deal together!!

I have one of those showers and I just put a plastic shower curtain on the tension rod and hung it on the INSIDE of the shower. The glass stays dry, the person taking the shower can open or close the curtains from the inside and have some privacy in case someone else needs to come on and wash their hands or whatever. I got a couple cute plastic curtains to change out from time to time and no need to put decorative ones on the outside.

Oh it’s just beautiful! That shade of green is my favorite color too! One idea for a towel holder is to use a small vintage picture frame with no glass or backing. Paint the frame your desired color (maybe the same green as the vase?) and the glue a ribbon or string to each of the top corners of the frame and tie the two strings together and then hang on the wall. So cute!

What I did for the glass in my house, clean really really well, then rub with turtle wax or a wax of sort if you cannot get turtle wax. Yes the glass will be slippery, which is what you want, but it is not being walked on, the slipping helps the water glide off more easily.

Love how this turned out! It compliments your kitchen really well. I like how practical you are too, when it comes to your shower door. You appreciate pretty things, but if it doesn't function well there's no point. The curtain was a good fix for now! I noticed no towel ring right away and thought...Oh, no towel ring, must be going for a minimalist or old fashioned look. I’m much older than you and grew up with the towel loosely folded by the sink. I don’t remember hand towel hooks or rings being popular when I grew up. Then you mentioned you just forgot about the towel ring and had a good laugh. Your bathroom looks great!

I love how everything turned out! So classic. I thought the shower curtain was a good fix to hide the messy glass, but I was worried about losing light. You picked the perfect type of material to keep the space bright! Ingenious to use 2 curtains and make a longer one. The only thing I can see being a possible problem is that the old bathroom had a towel bar and it looks like the kids won't have anywhere to hang their towels. Are you planning to add a bar or hooks?

The shower door has a towel bar for the kids to hang theirs on when they step in to take a shower. We don’t leave body towels hanging when we’re not using them so an extra one isn’t necessary!

Everything looks so pretty! Just a tip, return that tension rod and get a better one! I bought those at target too, and it’s not worth it, they drop one curtain panel all the time when I put them in the hallway closets of my home. Everything looks so pretty though! You can probably even take those doors down too in the bathroom, we did that in our apartment and it was so worth it! One less thing to clean! Love y’all!

I feel like it’s worth mentioning that they make colored wood filler sticks. It’s like a crayon. For tiny holes like brad nails it’s great. You don’t have to sand it or paint again. My family flips houses and growing up I had two jobs staple puller (from carpet) and wood filler. It was like coloring.

We’ve used those ones before and they’ve done a mediocre job in our experience! The putty style wood filler has performed way better for our projects!
