Tbf, bad dads are a real life thing for a lot of people. Of course there can be bad moms or other family but dads *historically* take the lead... Art imitates life as they say. But yeah, it gets old to keep seeing that theme repeatedly in games. I'd even dare say family trauma in general is getting old as a theme, where mom bad would feel stale too, same with child not alive. I would rather see some games explore guilt for doing something like a crime, or taking revenge, or ruining away from problems, or whatever. Just something that explores other of the many many tragedies that can take place in life.

Well for a few minutes after you found the contract I wondered if this was gonna be THE psychological horror game in which it wasn't the dad's fault but... yeah... ^^ I also wondered for a moment if all this was somehow a sort of "possible future" and if Walter was going to be able to course correct, but I'm doubting this theory more and more as the game progresses. I'd love to be proven wrong though !

A thought regarding the name: Reveil. This looks like the French word for "waking up", "réveil", which could have implications for how this story pans out. Maybe Dorie didn't die but ended up in a coma? Or perhaps the main character tried to "cease his biological functions* by swallowing a bottle of pills and flushing them down with bottles of wine, like we saw in the earlier sequences in the house, is now in the hospital and ends up waking up. Scondary note: while checking Wiktionary about the French word, I also found out "reveil" is an obsolete form of "realize" in English, which can have an additional meaning to the one I just mentioned, especially if it is about the MC being in a coma or something and waking up with the realization of what he did.

It also can be misread as “reveal,” similar concept for ppl who look at the word and happen to misunderstand that it can be another language or whatever… even that seems to follow similar themes… like how shows and circus acts and stuff they always say “the big reveal,” when everything is finally seen or understood . This could be a total coincidence and have nothing to do with “reveal” lol but just a thought

Idk....as I said in the last vid, these "bad dad walking simulator" games are so tired. I'm really tired of the weird sympathetic angle of a dude who wanted to kill his wife and got his kid killed too. I don't feel bad for him and at this point....what is the point of the game? To see him be sad about murdering his family? ...idk maybe they will do something interesting by the end of the game???

And love you, Chris, for caring about the elephant. 🐘♥When I was a very little kid, my dad took me to the circus once, and I cried for 3 days after seeing how the elephants were mistreated. About the triangle: It could be because triangles, if constructed properly, are meant to be the most stable structures. The triangles in this game are usually inverted, so it could be a juxtaposition meant to show the *instability* of the family structure and how they lack balance. How everything was turned upside down for them with the pending divorce and whatever happened to Dorie. There's 3 sides to a triangle, and there are 3 characters in this game whose perspectives (sides) matter.

Seems we're traveling through his ego if he's the tinkerer who fixes everything. All the complex mazes and constructed items to figure out had be formed by his own mind. The out of control steam engine must be a nod to The Shining where it was Jack's crucial task to release the built up pressure of the huge boiler. Getting taken over by the hotel causes him to eventually ignore then forget about it. The Death card in Tarot isn't always about actual death but figurative death. The ending of something needing to be let go. ...gonna need my shrink's sofa and clown shoes for this one. 😊🎈

Siiiigh. I’m hoping Chapter 5 will have some weird twist where he didn’t actually kill his family, but Martha (or his brother) tried to kill him. The game is good, but, as others have said, the bad dad trope is getting really old. So, I want a twist in the final chapter. What gives me vague hope are the odd things we keep seeing in the weirder parts of his nightmare (like those modern medical-like machinery we glimpsed near the end). What is up with that?

Great gaming from CJU! Every horror game needs three elements besides bad lighting and a lousy flashlight: Fuses, mannikins, and, notes left everywhere. Working toilets are also a good addition.

Well, Chris, in Part 1 you assumed the husband is the culprit; but I doubt it. I'm pretty sure the wife is obsessive and controlling, and an all-around monster. Starting to watch Part 2, so let's see... Later: I sincerely doubt that "Uncle" is related to Walter or anyone else in the family. Whoa! That was awesome. Can't wait for the next installment, and I still don't believe Dad did anything at all. Guilt comes in all kinds of packages, delivered in all sorts of ways.

I'm repeatedly cheering for this to be anything but another "Bad Dad" because Walter seems like a good, nice man, and Martha is getting worse and worse. Who signs away their daughter's childhood? And for what? The circus is dying, Walter says it himself, but I get a bad feeling about the circus at the same time. It feels more like a cult than an actual circus the further Walter gets into it... Who makes a contract, effectively trampling every child labor law known to man? I somehow doubt it would hold up in court, though worse legal loop holes have been taken, but it is terrible to think about. And then the scene with him cutting the safety net happened... Why? I had such high hopes for this game. I'm so disappointed.

gosh this game had so much going for it just to be another bad dad simulator... there are so many interesting stories to tell and I think the circus has a lot of untapped potential for writing, but come on,,,,, this type of story has been cliche for years now. Even though psychological horror games can be kinda predictable it's still interesting learning about the backstory of the game and what and how the protagonist did to become the villain, It's educational in a way I'm not sure how to explain it Anyways hell yeah "Lazaret" and this are my favorite new horror games for now, Let's go CJU!!!!

oh i *love* the changing environments and how the game hides its loading things by keeping you occupied or distracted with something else. not a huge fan of domestic issues (i have not seen the whole video yet so i HOPE it is not a "i killed them and cannot remember and all this is me processing it" then the plot twist/ending is "oh god i DID kill them") as the plot of horror games at this point though. it is on par (edit : on par as a storytelling device, it is way worse in general) with the already dead/haunted by what pushed the character to suicide kind of thing (edit again : well. whatever. *sigh*)

You know, there's no way he wouldn't have won a custody hearing. Or even could have gone to the extreme and kidnapped his daughter. Circus workers don't exactly have a lot of money or a strong network, she would have struggled to find them. I saw it coming the moment he mentioned the safety net when picking up the blindfold, but still hoped it was going somewhere more original. I now just hope the cult stuff and blood sacrifice doesn't mean we're also doing the "tried to resurrect my loved one but it went bad" cliche As an aside, why is it always trapeze artists/acrobats? I struggle to think of a single story about the circus where the love interest isn't one of those

Faust AKA Seven Games of the Soul has a couple of romance storylines. One involves female Siamese Twins. It's a horror game, so of course their story doesn't end happily. Decent game though, check it out if you get chance
